i want a Superman story about Superman realizing she's a trans woman. how would she tell people? who would she tell? how could she tell them? through what possible ways would she transition? Kryptonian biology may not necessarily be compatible with human hormone replacement therapy and needles are certainly out of the question. if she figures it out, at what point does her presentation change? superman can't take a break, people need her, even if her haircut is getting awkwardly long and her body is uncomfortable to be in. everyone on earth knows who Superman is, knows her face. is her secret identity threatened if Clark Kent mysteriously starts to transition at the same time as Superman? if she only lets one be publicly out, which one? and what would it feel like to put on that costume -- in either case -- if so? if someone tries to attack her on the street, as Ms. Kent, how does she hide her secret identity? how would the world itself react to someone with the strength to juggle planets being a tranny? with her super-hearing there's nothing she wouldn't know about what people are saying, nevermind what's being written in the press. how does SuperMAN, one of the most definitive icons of masculine indomitability and resilience, cope with changing? would her strength, her confidence, her ability to do anything suddenly be used against her? why can't she be more like wonder woman? why is voice training so hard even for someone with super-ventriloquism? does anyone know what it's like to be able to run faster than a speeding bullet and leap tall buildings in a single bound but to not be able to find a cute pair of shoes that fits? to be indestructible but afraid to use a public bathroom? would even the most powerful person on earth not feel just as helpless as i do?
i want to stress that it is crucial, like genuinely imperative, for this story in my mind that magical super special magic sci-fi kryptonian HRT that instantly rewrites Kent's DNA does not exist. it is not on the table. the entire thing is that Kent would have to transition slowly and awkwardly just like everybody else while also bearing the nonstop pressures and responsibilities of being "The Man of Steel" to literally every single human being on the planet. she doesn't have time to agonize over whether her shave was close enough before leaving the house if a plane is about to fall out of the sky
again i think some people are fundamentally missing a key point. this would be a story about how violent of an idea it is that a woman cannot be "Superman" and "Superman" cannot be a woman, and the myriad social forces that actively and passively enforce this ideology on everyone, including the very real and very strugglingly transgender Kent. it's about the vulnerability and frustration of it all, it's about secret identities and shame and choice and the unfair burden of tact, and all the superheroics stuff would just kind of a framing device. i swear to god give me a two week vacation from work and i'd have a script written

Walter white is the worst human being in the entire show and everyone was like âsheâs awful for trying to get him to stop manufacturing drugs.â Letâs not even mention the fact that he almost rapes her in the first season while sheâs like eight months pregnant and no one ever talks about it ever.
Sheâs actually pretty cool and has the best line that no one ever quotes: âsomeone has to protect this family from the man who protects this family.â

As I said, she's actually really really good at doing crime and there's something inherently very entertaining about watching this completely normal housewife/office worker turning out to be really good at money laundering and negotiating with criminals and coming up with cover stories. She has a failed writing career that she appears to be using coming up with cover stories for her husband's meth dealing as an outlet for, which is also really funny. She literally writes a script for him to use. There's also a really hilarious scene where the show cuts to Skyler on the wikipedia page for "money laundering" that made me laugh really hard. The fandom blames her for all the problems that her husband Walter faces and calls her the worst character despite there being literal nazis and cartel members in the show. They also call her a slut, bitch, etc, even though the things she's done are not even comparable to the horrific actions that the male characters do.

Fans hate on Regina, a Latina woman of color, for things they give the white and male characters a pass for. Fans threw tantrums whenever the 'hero' characters forgave or befriended her and insisted she should apologize to them more (when she already did and saved their lives many times over) and be deferential to the (white) characters instead of being such a 'bitch' who dares to be angry and upset about the bad things that happen to her. Fans refuse to engage with her backstory as a victim of forced marriage and insist to this day that her killing her abusive husband was wrong and a murder "in cold blood." Fans downplay her role as the co-protagonist of the show and whine when she gets focus. Fans call her an abusive mother even though she was actually a very good mother who just made a few mistakes and downplay her connection to her adopted son as less 'real' than his biological family's connection to him. But fundamentally what fandom most hates about her is that she got the redemption arc and narrative focus reserved for the Spikes and Zukos and Anakins of the world while being a woman of color.
Regina starts off as the villain of the story and ends up as the hero. In almost any other show she would have been killed off but for all its flaws OUAT knew it struck gold with her and allowed her to shine. She is also incredibly funny.

CNN has done this whole investigative scoop on how elderly retirees have been priced out of retiring to Florida and all I can say is good. That is better for the environment. That is better for maintaining a support system. Stay where your loved ones are. I hate the idea that the cost of living is so high that you cannot even afford to move to a shitty fucking red state but old people need to stop moving to Florida. Iâm more concerned about the people living in Florida than the retiree/snowbird population, stay in fucking Ohio instead of moving into a condo shoddily built over endangered wetlands. There are constant natural disasters and ongoing environmental concerns, I donât care if you wanted to retire to the beach. This is something I am so passionate about as a southeasterner even if I am not from an âidealâ retirement area, moving across the country at age 65 is a terrible idea logistically speaking, moving towards family is one thing but moving to a âscenic vacationâ area and pricing out all the locals and then needing a caretaker while your loved ones are states away is so baddddd.
Not to mention that the elderly are more vulnerable to heat stress and less capable of evacuating during natural disasters, Florida is a terrible place to move to in your golden years.
Iâm also from North Carolina and back in 2020, I was living in a trailer in an area that was the middle of fucking nowhere but has become a more touristy recreational area in the last 50 years and a lot of wealthy people from the research triangle had (temporarily) relocated there due to the pandemic and work from home mandates. The shit they would post on the previously very quiet Facebook group boggled my mind. âThe nearest hospital is an hour away????â âThere are no coffee shops or jogging trails?â âThere are no municipal resources whatsoever?â YES, EXACTLY. EVERYONE ELSE IN THE COUNTY MAKES LIKE $40k A YEAR. GO HOME.
People in the Facebook group would be like âIs this a good place to retire to?â and locals would have to gently inform them that elderly residents in the region often have to leave the area because there are no doctors, no nearby hospitals, no home health aides and an overall lack of resources. It was so sickening.
Keep in mind old people really like the heat. We should, as a society, setting up places for people to retire to. We should allow people to go someplace warm and safe and spend their Golden years. I don't understand why people think that they can just say "DON'T COME HERE" and not out any effort into making a place for those same people.
Nope. Weâre experiencing an elder care crisis and the answer is not to export them to Florida as Florida is a terrible retirement destination for the reasons outlined above. An elderly personâs desire to live somewhere warm does not supersede the needs of the people already living there nor does it negate the fact that pretty much every gerontological study indicates that it is better for elderly people to remain in familiar locations where they have longstanding community connections. We need more nursing homes, we need more assisted living communities, we need them across the nation. We need less people retiring to Florida.
