Domestic Violence in India
Domestic violence is one of the most common forms of violence faced by girls and women in India. Thousands of complaints are registered every year, with states like Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Maharashtra reporting the highest numbers. These cases often involve physical abuse, emotional torture, and cruelty by husbands or in-laws.
The bigger issue is that many cases are never reported. Studies show that only a small percentage of women share their experience with the police, while most suffer in silence. Surveys reveal that nearly one-third of Indian women between the ages of 18 and 49 have faced physical violence at some point in their lives.
Even when women do report, justice is difficult to achieve. Conviction rates remain very low, with some cities showing barely 1% of reported cases ending in punishment. This makes many women lose hope and accept violence as part of life, which shows how unsafe and vulnerable they remain inside their own homes.
Conclusion: Domestic violence continues to be a hidden but dangerous reality in India, making home unsafe for many women who deserve safety, respect, and justice.
