Not to toot my own horn or anything (except that's kind of what I'm doing), but listen to this from 27:00 through the end of the chant. I'm on the left, and L is on the right. Our new camera system is so cool!

These two are singing “O magnum mysterium” by Tomas Luis De Victoria! It’s a very pretty piece from the renaissance that has a lot of different voice parts singing totally different melodies that mesh well together. I sung tenor for a song of his as well. It sounds ethereal in cathedrals and bathrooms alike my opinion. Its the room’s ability to bounce sound and make it resonate, giving it it’s “mermaid siren” like quality. It sounds great. Congratulations, you both! Sounds very pretty and seems like a fun time to clean with things like that.

Well, would you listen to that? I managed to balance the entire choir. That’s at least 17 people and a piano vs. me on alto. And damn it, you can still hear me.
This is why my director says I can count for three people.

I’m sorry, but when the balance is off because you added ten kids to the soprano 1 section of the SOLO sections, you do NOT invite the entire Alto section to chime in on their line. You have the alto soloist, whom you specifically told to sing softer in these sections, sing louder. Especially when it’s tongue twisty Latin, and the alto section doesn’t even KNOW that part.
You know when the balance is going to be REALLY off? WHEN NONE OF THE DAMN ALTOS COME TO SUNDAY WITH THE STUDENTS EXCEPT ME!

Were we supposed to be singing the part we know, or the part that other lady was singing?
one of the JECMS kids after their concert tonight. That other lady? That was me. LOL, I'm "that other lady" now. I love it!
I had a dream last night that one of my altos said something along the lines of, "Well leave that part to our alto/tenor extraordinaire" meaning me. And my director pretty much just went, "well, yeah, duh, of course she's the best out of all of you." It's possible I'm feeling guilty for not being there today. It's also possible I'm just proud of the fact that my director asked me to sing the first alto part in the JECMS choir concert late this week. It's going to be him, the soprano section leader, and me, the de facto alto section leader. That's just awesome.
Not to be a choral snob, but this Sanctus chant is SO much better in Latin. We did it in English this weekend at St. A and it just felt wrong.
Seriously beautiful music. We're doing this piece for Christmas this year with SAC.
