@chromiumrabbit
listen whether or not you personally like sea shanties is another matter but if you’re telling me they don’t unlock something deep within you you’re lying
I know it’s literally months before the holidays and no one cares but if I hear one more chucklefuck Buzzfeed-era neoliberal call “Baby It’s Cold Outside” a song that “approves of rape culture” as though they’ve decoded the Rosetta Stone I will lose my shit. It’s so clearly sung in a wink-wink nudge-nudge way like how the fuck did this become an annual controversy? The vibe of the song is so obviously the girl being like “oh I really SHOULD get going but I kinda don’t want to… ;)” and the guy being like “I mean, it’s cold outside, no one could blame you for staying over ;)” because the song was written in the late 40s when you had to be all coy n shit about your relationships!!! Stop turning a completely fucking innocent cute as fuck song into some weird pseudointellectual debate because you don’t understand nuance and you watched a funnyordie skit about it once holy FUCK
Reminder for the holidays.
There was this great analysis of the song that points out that in the movie where it’s featured, Neptune’s Daughter, there’s a gender reversed version and how the song is about “the chase” but I can’t find it so have this Washington Post video instead:
How I donate to incarcerated individuals for the holidays:
I browse the website writeaprisoner.com to search through profiles of people who are currently incarcerated throughout the country. You can filter your search by location, race, age, sex, etc. I utilize this feature because I typically donate to individuals who are marginalized by race, gender, sexuality, etc.
You can also view each person’s charges if you have preferences against donating to folks incarcerated for specific offenses like sexual predation.
I check their profile for their institutional e-mail which should be called “JPay.” Click the JPay hyperlink on their profile to be directed to this page which will instruct you on how to write letters and send money through the service.
Unfortunately, not every detention center on this site provides access to this service, but most of them do. I do not have experience with other institutional e-mails, but I’m sure most of them work in the same way as JPay.
From there, simply create a JPay account or login if you already have one. They pretty much walk you through how to send money and e-mails to a person of your choosing using their Inmate ID# which is listed on their profile under the “Contact” → “By Mail”” section.
There are several other ways to put money on someone’s books, this is just a method that has been proven to work for me personally. Please let me know if you are confused about anything or run into any problems.
U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service - Migratory Bird Program | Conserving America's Birds
Do wind turbines kill birds? Yes. And we do need to find a way to mitigate that. But outdoor cats are the overwhelming leader in causes of bird deaths.
The good that wind turbines will do for the environment, and by association birds, mitigates their unfortunate losses. We need to continue to work on and improve wind turbines’ avian safety, but acting as if they are bird Armageddon is wrong.
also please for the love of GOD keep your cats inside
Welcome to the space age, ladies and gentlemen
This is really quite a big deal. A tremendous amount of modern research ends up being sold to journals which require unreasonable payments to access it and only pay the original authors a pittance. It’s nice to see an agency like NASA deliberately widebanding its findings.
Not sure if people fully realize just how big of a deal this is. THIS is how science is advanced. Not through biased corporate research, business secrets, marketing, paywalls and patent wars. But through open, uncensored and unrestricted public access to knowledge.

NASA IS GOOD, NASA IS GREAT
@osunism
NASA is the hero we don’t deserve.
This deserves every reblog.
@geh-is-okeh
In the face of institutions being silenced, this is doubly huge.
I love seeing that, for once, there are more reblogs than likes
Keep passing on this info, guys. Good job
This is SUPER important!! Science can only develop if people share what they found!
Also this could help me find a topic for my finals presentation in biology!
Bless NASA
“The director of the first film, Andrew Adamson, was very focused on preserving real emotion, on seeing things for the first time, and having, like, a real sense of wonder.“
“So he didn’t actually show me the set of Narnia where the lamppost is until we shot it. I was blindfolded and guided into my place, and he told me to just walk around, that the camera would follow me.”
“And so I turned around and I saw it for the first time. It was in a studio but it was ri-dic-ul-ous-ly real. I couldn’t get my head around it. And so what you see is my real reaction to everything. It was incredible.”

On top of that, she had been close friends with the fella playing Tumnus and had not yet seen him in full costume. They were kept apart a few days before their meeting was shot so when she meets him and lights up? She’s seeing her friend for the first time in days and he’s also in costume.
See, this is where enforced method acting is okay and sweet and adorable.

i resent the whole premise of HAVING to drive. this country's culture around cars and shitty public transport are engineered to disenfranchise poor people. you buy the car and have to pay tax, pay for inspections, plates, insurance. you probably need one of these things to get to work btw. everyone needing their own car to function is an obvious american individualist "freedom" > the environment or other people thing. you're a second class citizen without transportation, and if you're in a food desert or rural area you're just hungry and isolated. meanwhile people overseas are getting straight up murdered for oil to power the cars they force us to have.
"hey you wanna climb in this metal death trap and travel at high speeds down poorly maintained paths and over crumbling bridges. this is a normal part of our daily routines and fuck you for questioning it or wanting to opt out in any way."
What part of “i don’t wanna spend anymore money” don’t I understand
