Have a chronic illness and looking for new, Spoonie-approved ways to manage your symptoms? You’re in the right place! Follow along as we bui
💪🏻 Exercise comes in many shapes and forms. 𝗜 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄, 𝗜’𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗮𝗹𝗹. I’ve done everything from simple recumbent exercises and cardiac rehab to intense weightlifting and HIIT.
If you’re sweating spoons, whatever that may look like, that’s exercise in my book.
➡️ 𝗦𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂?
When it comes to your relationship with exercise, what’s your “why?”
In the video, I’ve listed out some of the reasons why I get off the couch and out there working.
➡️ 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗼𝗻𝘀?
Anyone else on Instagram?
I made a new AR filter that displays those very popular black felt boards with a random quote or saying about chronic illness!
Those boards can be pricey, and not everyone has the ability to place those frustratingly tiny letters, so I thought this would be a fun inclusive way for everyone to get into the action!
You can find it on my IG page: (at)chronicillnessresources - and if you’re searching AR filters, it’s called “Motivational Poster.”
I know, it’s tough to pick just one misconception, but humor me here!
I’m interested in what you hear from others (that’s wrong) about your illness the most 👇🏻
For me, it’s fainting. Sure, syncope is a huge part of POTS, but it’s not the end-all be-all of symptoms. Just because I’m conscious doesn’t mean I’m not dealing with a myriad of other symptoms that disrupt my day to day activities.
🐥 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 “𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗲?”
You’d think for being so exhausted all the time, more Chronic Illness warriors would have a better relationship with sleep.
But we don’t.
When it comes to the sleeping struggles of the chronically ill, I’ve tried everything.
This post contains the practical things and methods that have helped me fall asleep, or more appropriately pass out, at night.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗲 𝗦𝗻𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀? Those treats that give you a shot in the arm and are good for the soul.
Work has been crazy lately. Our shows premiere next week (check your local listings), so since this is crunch time (pun intended), I’m relying on my food choices to keep my chronic illness in check.
It’s not perfect. And it’s not sustainable. But when I have to take a couple weeks and completely immerse myself in work, keeping my electrolytes and sodium balanced (while not pigging out) helps me stay upright.
In between calls and tapings, I race to the kitchen to fill up my depleting tanks. And here’s what I reach for. I try to hit these few benchmarks that help me with my POTS:
👉🏻𝗦𝗼𝗱𝗶𝘂𝗺. And lots of it.
👉🏻𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱. Sodium without water will shrivel you up like a raisin.
👉🏻𝗩𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻- 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁-𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀. Balance is key.
👉🏻𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘀. They sit digesting in your stomach and take blood away from other vital organs
👉🏻𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗻𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀. The big binge meals also take years to digest. Your brain needs that blood, too!
𝗜 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗜 𝗮𝘀𝗸 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗜’𝗺 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀!
𝗦𝗼 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗽𝗶𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗲 𝗦𝗻𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁! 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗮𝗴 𝗺𝗲 - 𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝘀!!
