"Nostalgia is killer" - fic wip kinda
Marc is more emotionally damaged from the experience with Vale than most people think but masks it very well. Pedro keeps saying praising - almost poetic words about Marc's abilities in interviews. Marc goes out of his way to interact with Pedro.
He gets close to pedro, inviting him over to his own motocross track during break to practice. Pedro ends up winning the race on the dirt track, and Marc comes to a realization. He wants to relive what happened event by event to see if it would be the same only from Vale's perspective. Because deep down he still fears he deserved the torment he was put through.
Only to find out that at the pivotal moment when he tries the exact move on Pedro as Vale tried on him. Only it fails for the same reason. Pedro just wanted to win more then Marc; he wanted to beat him to make him proud. Pedro even turned back to check on him in much the same way. Marc swore he saw Repsol Honda colors riding off. He got up, and he was laughing, but inside, he was shattered.
In that moment, thoughts of jealousy were absent from his mind entirely. There was no blinding anger at being denied points in the championship, there was no thoughts of making Pedro suffer. He only wants to hold his number one fan tight his embrace and tell him how amazing he is, how glad he is that won. He wants to reward Pedro! Not hurt him, not cast him aside. He wants him to know how brave and extraordinary he is and how he adores him.
Marc realizes from this twisted experiment that not only has he fallen for Pedro, but he also finally understands Vale never cared for him at all. Because he never remembered Vale simling at him, not the way he smiles at Pedro.
