Dakota swayed to the thumping music, feeling it from the bottom of her feet to the top of her head. She loved getting lost in the music and just letting everything go. After she danced to her fourth song in a row, Dakota headed back over to the bar and ordering a beer when she spotted someone sitting by themselves at the bar. "Hey come dance with me. This is such a great song."

Tabby knew she probably looked like a mess, all frazzled and running through the door close to 11. But she didn't want to miss this! Just her luck that the convention was the end of the week, the same time as an Open Mic Night. She'd gotten a few texts from people, asking where she was, expecting her to be up there singing. Normally, she would be. But right around the same time, she was staring at diagrams of animal stomachs and the new technology that allowed them to see further into the cellular walls.
So, after getting off the plane, she'd raced home and dropped off her stuff, only to race back here. Spotting a familiar face, she pretended to wipe off a drop of sweat. "I'm so sorry I'm late. Did I miss anything good? Did I miss you going up to sing?"

Sadie had decided approximately six minutes after arriving at the Rhythm & Waves open mic night that live music was scientifically proven to make people hotter. There was simply no other explanation for the energy around the festival grounds right now; string lights glowing overhead, music spilling from both stages at once, strangers swaying with drinks in hand like they’d all wandered accidentally into the same coming-of-age movie. She leaned against the side of one of the bars with a cocktail she’d chosen entirely because the bright blue color looked fun, festival wristband sliding down her arm every time she gestured dramatically toward the stage.
“See, this is exactly how people develop crushes on musicians with absolutely no survival instincts.” The brunette announced as someone nearby finished an aggressively emotional acoustic cover to roaring applause. “One man sings into a microphone under mood lighting and suddenly everyone’s like 'that’s my husband now.'” Sadie took another sip of her drink before narrowing her eyes thoughtfully toward the lineup board. “Also, open mic nights are terrifying because there are only ever two possibilities: either you witness the next indie superstar before they make it big… or a guy named Brandon performs seven uninterrupted minutes of emotional warfare while maintaining direct eye contact with the crowd.” The woman let that marinate in the air for a moment. “And honestly? I support both.”

it's no surprise to him that cooper doesn't recognize any of the names on the program. he was chatty, but it seemed his circle hadn't extended as far as it probably could have. by this point, he was a little buzzed. the best way to enjoy LIVE MUSIC was when you could truly lose yourself in it. he glances over at the person next to him. “okay … do you know anyone on this lineup ? any performances i must avoid ? i'm trying to have a FUN NIGHT.”

For the open mic night, Nick brought a variety of instruments and tools. He first started with "Bittersweet Symphony" by The Verve, followed by "Mr. Brightside" by The Killers, both with his acoustic guitar and loop pedal. Following that, he pulled out the alto saxophone and did a rendition of Bruno Mars' "Versace On The Floor." He went back to singing with his fourth song, "Glimpse of Us" by Joji, with the addition of his keyboard. To round off the set, he went back to the classic guitar and performed "The Great Divide" by Noah Kahan.
He thought he did a good job, though he kept hearing one heckling voice throughout most of the set. Once the performance was finished, he hauled his instruments off to the backstage storage area and went looking for his friend who was supposed to be recording his set. "Hey, have you seen anyone with a camera?" he asked around.

"Um... so. I didn't know this was a whole set, you know? Just thought it was.. one song. Not sure I got much else left in me but... I'll give at least one a shot." Billy cleaned himself up a little, at least. Shaved the mangy beard and made himself somewhat presentable. Couldn't hide the sadness behind his eyes, though. "Someone left my life, relatively recently. Most of you know this. I... uh. I've been... well sad's an understatement." He chuckles, shaking his head. "It's turned my whole life around, really. And it's made me a lot more angry than I really know what to do with it... but he taught me guitar, before he left. Taught me how to play pretty well, as it is, so... guess it's only fair to dedicate this to him the first time I play it for people."
And Billy's gotten good, is the thing. His voice is nothing too special, but it holds up. He performs Haircut by Noah Kahan, biting and a little bitter. But at least it makes him finally let the anger go somewhere. Once he finishes, he thanks the crowd and then finds the bar, ordering a double whiskey.

Dark eyes bounced between the two stages repeatedly, locked in the grueling process of trying to decide which one to wander over to. "How are you deciding on who to watch?" Question directed at the closest figure. "I feel like no matter which one I pick, I'm going to end up missing out on a great performance." Admittedly, Rashmi was also a little overly worried that one stage might pull a larger crowd than the other. And if that was the case, she'd like to try to be in the smaller crowd to show support so it hopefully wouldn't feel too bad for the performer. "How exhausting do you think it'll be to ping pong back and forth between the two all night?"
"So there's book people, right? And movie lovers/goers. One hates the other but what about right in the middle?" Reece questioned. He'd been stuck between an argument with a few friends out of town and it's been on the top of his mind throughout the day now. "What do you call those people?" @ciderstarters

"i should have travelled by plane, my gosh." alijah pouted, mildly complaining out loud. a five hour drive was killer and she could not remember the last time she had driven that far before - there and back. "car rides just won’t do." maybe she was getting old. that thought sent shivers down her spine. absent mindedly she touched her face with her finger tips. looking over at the person in the vicinity, her brown eyes filled with emotion. "oh please oh please put me out of my misery. or better yet go have some ice cream with me, my treat?"

❝ LISTEN. i know what this looks like. ❞ a basket slung over her forearm, packed to the brim with various kinds of candy ; some assortments gathered in the resealable bags from the store, some prepackaged. there was definitely more candy than anyone – save for perhaps an OVERZEALOUS nine year-old – could possibly actually plan to eat. she had an idea, was the thing : a video of her trying nostalgic sweet treats. the candy store simply had T O O M A N Y options. ❝ i - uh - just wanna be the person people can run to if they ever get a hankerin' for something sweet ! does that sound believable? ❞

"Don't worry honey, I'm allowed to smoke here, you don't have to weigh a moral quandary." Piper said, blowing cigarette smoke out in a long stream. She wasn't an asshole, she could go outside to smoke so she wouldn't bother other people. The cool night air ruffled her hair, down from the chignon she'd had it in earlier that day. Inside, she'd order a martini, though the quality was less than what Piper preferred. But for all it's charms, Cider Point didn't exactly have a high class lounge.

'Who the hell invented sunrise yoga?" Margot thought as she rolled up her mat and pulled on her shoes. Her sister had talked her into attending this class but of course bailed at the last second, leaving Margot to go through the class alone. Sure she was all for morning yoga, but she preferred her classes to have started a few hours after the sun has risen. Biting back another yawn, Margot checked the time on her phone. Ah perfect time to grab a bagel and coffee from Coastal Coffee. As she turned she felt her mat and water bottle hit someone beside her. "Oh gosh I'm so sorry. I was not paying attention of my surroundings."

"And so I'm just sitting there, right, just sitting there, minding my own business, working on some bookkeeping when all of a sudden she's going off. And so I stop and look up at the TV and she's going on and on and on and on, not letting him talk at all. And she's got the audacity to tell him, as soon as he starts to speak... get this... are you ready? Can I get a word in? Like, man, you haven't stopped talking once!" He shook his head. Somehow, someway, Lucas had gotten caught up watching the newest season of Married At First Sight (the Australian version) and was sucked in immediately. While he wasn't normally a drama-reality tv show kinda guy, it seemed. recently dating shows were his kryptonite.

When Russell agreed to go out with his coworkers that night, he didn’t realize just how annoying they would be outside of work. It was bad enough that they were in a bar, but the fact that the other accountants were talking his ear off about stupid shit he didn’t care about made him want to drown himself in vodka. He pushed through those feelings with a diet coke in hand and looked for an escape route. He spotted someone across the bar and used that to his advantage. “I’ll be back in a bit. A friend of mine his here,” he said, darting towards the other person. He greeted them enthusiastically, but once he was far enough away from his colleagues, stated, “Please help me. My coworkers won’t stop talking to me about golf and crypto.”

🪐 he's out of the house for something other than to study or work for the first time this fortnight. a little social interaction couldn't hurt, right? so a last minute decision left him powering down his laptop, putting on something that wasn't sweat pants and an old shirt, and heading out the door. his mindless meandering led saul to a very familiar venue, and promptly starts the familiar routine of scouting a seat to plant himself at before gathering the nerve to speak to someone he didn't know. "is this seat taken?" saul glances at the stranger next to the only empty space in the vicinity. maybe tonight he was feeling a little more brazen than usual.
