malini's staring down an old, innocent-looking couple who have been lollygagging around the store for too long. the woman has a trench-coat on in the middle of july while the man is rocking a fedora. a lightbulb switches on; thieves ! thieves flashes in bright neon pink in her mind over and over. she stalks them as one would a prey ; walking through the isles, hiding behind hangers full of clothes. she squats down, walking like a crab when her shoulder bumps into someone's leg. head whips up, her voice a mere whisper. “ they're stealing, right? can you see them? ”

now, nate is well aware he's not everyone's cup of tea. he's lived thirty-two long years of people making their opinions on him very clear, so he's no longer surprised when he catches someone rolling their eyes or clicking their tongue. he is, however, a pushover who keeps putting himself through it for the sake of everyone else. in this case, their mutual friends. who aren't here right now and he's still stuck making small talk. god, he needs to get better at setting boundaries, and saying no. or goodbye, either would work right now. he blames lucky. malini can't always read social clues well. she's always been a lot of impulse, a minimal thought beforehand kind of a girl. should feel awkward with nate ; given how none of their mutual friends are present and it's just them. and their four-legged friends. despite the unsaid playful ( in malini's eyes anyway ) animosity, she's enjoying the sunny day in a park with void in the presence of nate. knows she'll end up riling him up and then giggling about it. malini shrugs: "just letting him live his life, you know. " the black lab is leash-free, currently sprinting towards a woman holding a delicious looking ice-cream. maybe void will manage to knock it off her hands. maybe not. " we should let all dogs live their own life and just give them food, take care of them. let them be free hippies. "

cleo's hand flies up to cover her gasp, then, unsure whether she's more mortified by him hitting the ground again or that her instinct wasn't to, extends to help him up. "maybe we should've invested in knee pads?" she grimaces. "you should push me over. a few times, to make us even." the idea is ridiculous, but it's the one she voices, eyes wide and needlessly glassy. "since I'm such a terrible teacher."

milo doesn't know how it's possible, but the dull thud his body makes with the pavement discourages pain from creeping into his knee. thinks for a moment that his body must be made of nothing, an empty shell. his knee doesn't crack ; bone probably intact. key word : probably. " nah, I'm fine. " oh, the pain is coming, alright. fuck, fuck, fuck - " no, cleo, damn - uh, " he sits up, tries to smile through the stinging pain in his knee. now  that  he's  no  longer  cleared  to  drive,  rory  has  gotten  used  to  walking  around  –  or  picking  up  rides  from  his  friends  and  siblings,  but  that's  neither  here  nor  there  –  and  summer  is  finally  a  good  enough  reason  to  enjoy  being  outside  ..  not  just  because  he  kind  of  has  to.  “oh,  yeah,  yeah,”  a  nod  of  his  head  as  he  swipes  his  mouth  with  the  back  of  his  hand  as  if  his  dads  never  taught  him  manners  (because  they  didn't,  it  was  mostly  just  assumed).  “she's  real  friendly.  pretty  sure  she  could  make  friends  with  a  wall  wit'  paint  dryin'  on  it.”  like  dog,  like  owner,  he  supposes.  keeps  liberty  steady  as  her  tail  becomes  nearly  qualifying  for  a  lethal  weapon,  swooshing  in  his  face  at  the  prospect  of  a  new  friend.  “she'd  love  that  —  she'll  probably  start  punching  you,  so  just  push  her  paw  away.  it's  her  version  of  those,  uh,”  thinks  for  a  second.  there's  a  reference  bouncing  in  his  mind.  “from  finding  nemo.  the  birds.”

milo thinks nothing of his manerless maneuveur. he, too, swipes his mouth with the back of his hand almost as if rory doing so prompted a deep part of his brain to follow. they might have linked for all milo knows. " damn, my lucky day. " scratches behind the ear of the golden retriever. though the cold, moist nose nudges his forearm to go back to petting in between her eyes. milo has never been happier than when a dog adopts him. this interaction might just make his whole week. " of course, she's a she. she's so pretty. " he gazes into liberty's brown eyes before remembering. " giving her a fry, yeah? " announces, feeling like that's necessary. the canine almost eats his whole hand. milo chuckles, corners of his eyes wrinkling. " you mean the seagulls? i love that scene. seagulls can really be annoying as fuck when food is concerned. " a beat. " love those guys. "

Bellamy didn’t love working the front desk, but someone needed to do it. It was slow today, so most of their afternoon had been spent playing games on their phone and finding any excuse to walk around and bother his coworkers. When the curly-haired man walked into the shop, Bel was finishing up talking to a potential customer on the phone. Something about this guy felt familiar, but they couldn’t put their finger on why. Hearing their name come out of his mouth felt even stranger. “Depends on who’s asking,” they replied, jaw clenching.

the tension could be cut in half. for all of his joking around and chill vibe, milo wasn't ignorant to tautness in people's muscles. has been in the first row of all of his fathers' arguments. trying to mend them up, scared of what would happen if they decided to split up. so he's learnt to look for the signs, ready to jump in and be the clown to ease the situation. he flashes his signature grin, lopsided and blinding. for  what  it's  worth,  he  had  gone  to  work  today  —  but  it  was  a  shorter  shift  due  to  the  heat,  and,  really,  rory  didn't  want  to  stay  stuck  in  the  house.  liberty  has  her  little  boots  on  (to  both  serve  and  protect  her  paws  -  obviously),  and  he's  got  some  monstrosity  of  a  thift  store  hat  on -  he's  watching  reels  with  a  single  headphone  in  when  her  leash  moves  more  than  it  had since they sat down  catches  his  attention;  dropping  the  french  fry  in  confusion onto the container  as  the  retriever  attempts  to  nearly  trip  someone  over  as  they  walk by.  “shit  —  sorry,”  he  moves  down  the  seat  and  places  a  hand  between  liberty  and  their  leg,  trying  to  coax  her  off.  “maybe  she  wants  y'to  sit  here  –  share  your  food  with  her.  dog  tax."

for  better  or  worse,  milo's  day  off  was  as  uneventful  as  possible.  he's  walked  cider  point's  monumets,  again,  but  one  can  do  only  so  many  times  until  his  stomach  protests,  rumbling  louder  than  an  upcoming  thunder.  as  an  adamant  lover  of  fish  &  chips,  the  fish  house  has  been  an  easy  choice  of  his  linner  (  late  lunch  +  dinner  )  as  milo's  become  a  big  fan  of  said  cozy  family  establishment  and  their  outdoor  seating  where  he  can  people  watch  in  peace.  this  day,  however,  a  vicious  beasts  attacks  him  ;  clawing  at  his  leg  with  its  claws  and  deadly  breath  …  a  lovely  golden  who  looks  like  the  sun  itself.  “  's  fine.  ”  a  chuckle,  milo  bends  down  to  pet  her  head  softly.  freezes  when  he  realizes  …  :  “  shit,  sorry.  can  i  pet  her?  ”  balances  his  fries  &  chips  in  his  right  hand  while  patiently  waiting.  the  corners  of  his  mouth  quirk  up.  “  might  share  my  food  if  i  can  cuddle  her.  dog  tax  for  human  tax.  or human tax for dog tax ? not sure. ”

being a stalker was never in milo's intention on his pursuit of finding out what happened to his older sibling, yet he can't not help himself but feel as much. asking around the small town, writing down locations where bel could potentially be at. yes, feels very much stalker-ish. though, milo can endure this temporary sticker if it brings him to his lost family.

by the art of talking and gossiping, milo figured out they should be a tattoo apprentice, thus why he uncertainly trots inside the shop feeling like a fish out of water. flashes a blinding smile that hides his bashfulness while he decides to approach the first person he comes across. looms over them in all his buff tallness with the energy of an excited dog. " hey, i'm looking for bel. do you know any bel who should be an apprentice here? "
