have seen multiple people ask for a hadestown movie adaption post wicked and we truly have such different world views because i would never want that like to me some musicals are for stage only and hadestown is one of them

My favorite thing from the Hadestown proshot is how Persephone is drunk out of her godsdamn mind for 90% of it in a way that does not carry over to the cast recording but is nevertheless mesmerizing to watch

hermes in hadestown is the exact opposite of an unreliable narrator. a tortured narrator. a little *too* reliable. incredibly aware of exactly what is happening at any given moment, vaguely spoiling it for you in the beginning, despairing every second of it. but ultimately motivated to continue to tell the story over and over and over with a smiling face for the sake of the audience, and for the sake of the characters themselves, singing it again to keep them alive. knowing how it will end, but singing it again so that the cycle may restart and eurydice may come back to life. enduring the misery of it all, over and over, holding the knowledge of what will come to pass but continuing anyway to see orpheus happy just one more time before it all goes down in flames again.

Every time I have seen Hadestown - on stage or in the movie theater - people gasp when Orpheus turns around. I just love how it's so old and yet everyone is still always hoping that this time

The way the audience was so included in the proshot for Hadestown! You see the faces of the people there, see their reactions, hear their cheers and laughter and of course the gasp when he turns around. Not enough to be distracting, but enough to record that this is theatre, not just a film, and we as the audience are part of the story, too, as much as the cast and musicians we see on stage.
