Star Wars is to be dubbed into Welsh for the first time as the classic film prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary next year (x)

Set to broadcast on S4C on Christmas Day, the film, Star Wars; Gobaith Newydd, stars some of Wales' most internationally-recognised actors including;

Matthew Rhys as Han Solo, Rhys Ifans as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Aimee-Ffion Edwards as Princess Leia. Star Wars veteran Mark Lewis Jones takes on the role of Darth Vader, while rising talent Osian Morgan voices Luke Skywalker.

When I started watching What we do in the shadows, I was very excited about Guillermo. As a fat queer latina, seeing someone like me as the protagonist of a show was revolutionary.

Six years of tentative storylines and aborted growth later, this same protagonist arrives at the end of the show, almost unchanged. Still disrespected by the ones he calls his chosen family. Taking the crumbs. Ridiculed by the narrative, 'not sexualized' by producers who make litterally every one else fuck. Stuck in a sitcom that only makes him the butt of the joke.

I think the conversation is not about queerbaiting, or Guillermo/Nandor becoming canon. That would require respect, and the makers of the show seeing Guillermo as a potential romantic and/or sexual partner. That would require Guillermo being treated as the grown ass adult he is, instead of being ridiculed from the first to the last episode.

He had glorious moments, incredible growth, that was squashed because it didn't fit the 'haha we laugh at Guillermo' running gag.

They didn't even have the decency to let him leave.

I thought I was seeing someone like me, but in the end I was watching how the producers saw people like me.
