Random Thoughts on Game of Thrones Season 8 ...so far?
I’m back on my random tv thoughts bullshit, and here’s my Episode 3 - The Long Night thoughts. This is mostly about Episode 4 - The Last of the Starks, but I got in my feelings about Theon/Yara. I was going to put my vent on female relationships in this post, but it would have been mega long, so that will be a separate post.
Episode 4 was fanfic galore: Brienne and Jaime, Sansa “flirting” with the Hound, Gendry proposing to Arya.
Poor Missandei! She and Greyworm were planning their retirement in Naath. Is this a hint that Greyworm will die too. When Davos finds out his crush is dead, he’s going to flip.
Probably an unpopular opinion: I think I would’ve preferred Theon dying for Yara than Bran. She was his only family, the only person that unconditionally loved him. She always fought for him and always forgave him. As Theon or as Reek, he always found redemption with her; he didn’t need to seek it. Theon’s original motivational arc was to be a Greyjoy. He got into this whole betraying Robb mess because he wanted to prove he was a Greyjoy. He betrayed the Starks, but wasn’t he technically their hostage? They took him away from his family as insurance the Greyjoys wouldn’t rebel again. The Starks didn’t treat him badly, but Ned would’ve killed him if he had to. They were his captors. Theon should have died for Yara. A Greyjoy. His sister. His Queen.
Are Brienne and Davos, the original Baratheon stans, going to pledge themselves to Lord Gendry now? J/K Ned is the original Baratheon stan.
Arya and Gendry better end up together. They don’t have to be married. They don’t have to be Lord and Lady of Storm’s End. They just have to be TOGETHER. Just because you’re a strong, independent Night King killer doesn’t mean you have to be devoid of love. I dislike that trope.
Still rooting for Queen Meera wherever she is.
Poor Brienne, Tormund wouldn’t have done you like that. I’m not sure which way they’re going with Jaime/Cersei, but I’m leaning toward a born together/die together situation.
Watch, when we see Robin Arryn again, he’s gonna be all tall and buff.
Jon and Dany being in love is … unbelievable. I don’t know if it’s the pacing, the acting, the chemistry, but something is missing. I think this “romance” would have benefited from a slow burn treatment.
Dany just lost Jorah, Rhaegal, AND Missandei? She gonna “Dracarys” all over the place. Fire and Blood Time.
And of course the real star of Episode 4:
