ohhh yeah that’s the good stuff
I think the decision to age Claudia up to the point that she could be played by young-looking adults/almost adults instead of an extremely young child is actually incredibly ethical and positive. I know some people lament the loss of theme and while I sympathize, I think it matters waaaaaaaay less than the actual factual harm that being in the spotlight at a young age does to a lot of people (especially children of color). The story is not and should not be considered more important than the safety of real people, ESPECIALLY kids. Also we wouldn't have the absolutely jaw-dropping performances of Delainey Hayles and Bailey Bass which would be a damn shame. Anyways.
THIS and also it makes a lot more sense to age up Claudia, as turning her 14 means putting her in a distinctive everlasting liminal space : she's not a child anymore but not yet a woman. This reinforces her anguish concerning the fact that she can never look how she feels inside, and having young-looking adult actors such as Delainey and Bailey only propels this. What we see on screen is a young woman, but she is still treated like a child in-universe. We as an audience can feel her anger with her, and feel the absurdity of her being treated as something she isn't.

you can love a character and still admit when they’re wrong. i love claudia but can acknowledge her flaws (she has none) and can hold her accountable for her wrongdoings (she’s never done anything wrong in her life) and call her out for her actions (which are always correct).
“claudia de pointe du lac” “claudia de lioncourt” “claudia de pointe du lac de lioncourt” did you fools ever consider claudia eparvier. did you ever consider that she would absolutely take madeleine’s last name because madeleine is the only one who ever put her first and that she would want to repay her by putting her first too. did you consider this
Book Madeleine made children's toys, Movie Madeleine died cradling Claudia to her like a child, Claudia was never going to escape being treated like she was five years old forever even by her chosen companion. Her death was a tragedy and inevitable. AMC Madeleine made dresses saw her loved her treated her as an equal died on her knees clutching Claudia's waist framing Claudia in a position of greater strength and age than her companion. Claudia escaped being treated like a child through Madeleine who loved her. Claudia's death was a tragedy and not inevitable at all.
the claudia-armand dynamic is one of my favourites out if the entirety of tvc bc armand was such a hater from the start its so pathetic. first night meeting the paris coven and claudia's being herself like hey guys! its so nice to finally meet other vampires like me and louis! meanwhile armand is broadcasting multiple KILL YOURSELF's in her mind
armand
Everything men have done in her life AND her death is using Claudia and her story without any consent from her whatsoever. So what is that's one of the main plot points of the show. So fucking what. If I want to stand up for Claudia I will. And Daniel is completely complicit in this abuse as well btw. He's participating in this because he perpetuates it - there's no such thing as neutrality here. I don't care that he has "journalistic purposes" or that he "warned louis people would disregard her story and dress up as her for halloween" or wtv. In the end he still did it, he still published his book and (allegedly, we'll know more when s3 drops ig) modified the story that was told. He wronged Claudia by association. AND he made money off of it. TWICE
watching abbott elementary makes me yearn to see little claudia going to school and her daddy lou and/or papa les picking her up and being so proud of her and her being the best kid and so smart and so loved by her teachers and classmates and everyone
