grew  up  with  her  dad  &  only  her  dad  .  mom  is  100%  out  of  the  picture  

dad  owned  a  book  store  &  the  pair  lived  above  it

her  dad  was  very  open  about  her  standing  her  ground  no  matter  what  &  was  always  supportive  

their  family  was  always  tight  on  money  though  unfortunately  

the  two  of  them  did  learn  taekwondo  together  when  she  was  10

honestly  her  dad  was  her  best  friend  

cleo  grew  up  reading  lots  &  lots  of  books  tho  .  definitely  liked  reading  them  in  coffee  shops

life  as  a  growing  kid  was  nice  ,  her  &  her  dad  did  karaoke  all  the  time  despite  neither  of  them  being  good  at  singing 

her  grades  in  school  were  fine  ,  she  had  a  few  friends  here  &  there  who  came  over  to  hang  out  often  

the  last  year  of  school  for  cleo  was  super  heartbreaking  though

FIRE  &  DEATH  TW  -  one  night  while  visiting  relatives  ,  cleo’s  dad  answered  a  phone  call  of  a  break - in  happening  at  the  bookstore  .  upon  arriving  it  seemed  that  moments  later  the  store  was  set  ablaze  .  two  people  were  declared  dead  by  the  police  .  someone  had  broken  in  &  set  the  store  on  fire  &  couldn’t  get  out  quick  enough  .  cleo’s  father  just  so  happened  to  be  there  at  the  wrong  time  END

it  took  a  really  hard  toll  on  cleotilde  tbh  .  .  .  she  disassociated  herself  with  just  about  everyone  .  she  collected  her  insurance  money  &  ran  off  to  a  job  in  france  to  numb  the  pain  .  

she  didn’t  start  working  at  the  villas  for  a  few  years  after  moving  .  instead  she  held  multiple  jobs  &  weird  places  while  working  towards  her  degree  in  management  .

she’s  honestly  only  been  working  as  an  event  planner  for  a  little  over  half  a  year

Her actions were surprising enough for his eyes to widen and his mouth to gape open as he tried in vain to question what she was doing before it snapped shut as his hands settled on her waist, his fingers drumming in indecision for only a second before they molded to her sides and pulled her closer and into his lap, his guitar, the song, all of it forgotten as he pressed up to capture her lips in a soft kiss. 

It was  probably, most definitely, a short sighted decision that would probably, most definitely, come back to bite him in the ass but he couldn’t find it within himself to care as he deepened the kiss, happy to exist in the bubble they had created for themselves for a little longer. 

He wanted to ask her a million questions. If this meant that she forgave him, if she believed him, if this was just because she liked the way he played guitar or if it was really just because she, like him, felt an ever present need to be closer. 

“We should-” he tried, though it was a pitiful attempt with how quickly he returned to her lips, “we should probably talk, right? Before we do something you- I don’t want you to regret anything later.” 

             it  was  as  if  everything  was  okay  ,  like  nothing  bad  had  happened  between  them  .  as  their  lips  moved  against  one  another  &  cleo  had  even  found  more  comfort  in  sitting  in  his  lap  .  the  fact  that  kal  even  pulled  her  in  to  do  so  made  cleotilde’s  heart  lurch  .  

             before  she  knew  it  ,  the  kiss  had  come  to  an  end  &  kal’s  face  was  mere  inches  away  from  her  .  “  i  don’t  -----  ”  she  pauses  ,  trying  to  form  words  based  on  the  buzz  of  thoughts  in  her  head  .  what  did  she  think  would  happen  ?  that  they  would  just  kiss  &  makeup  ?  go  back  to  everything  being  normal  ?  

          “  i’m  sorry  .  that  was  ,  that  was  uncalled  for  ,  ”  hesitantly  ,  cleo  moved  off  of  his  lap  .  she  initiated  the  kiss  &  know  felt  awful  that  she  couldn’t  press  on  further  ,  despite  really  wanting  to  .  “  i  don’t  regret  anything  ,  but  i  do  think  i  should  go  before  i  screw  up  more  .  ”

i temporarily fall in love with like any guy thats nice to me at all like the checkout guy at CVS told me to “stay dry” this morning bc it was raining and i thought about him for like 2 hours after that

He hummed softly as he strummed, his head tilting as he turned the guitar quietly. “Of course I have your number. I wouldn’t have deleted it.” He assured gently, his eyes ticking up to glance at her before they fell back to his instrument. He could feel knots forming in his stomach as he finished up, his mind racing as to what to play her. He had been writing a song, one that was nearly finished at this point, but the thought of actually playing it for her made him nearly shiver. 

But, he wasn’t a coward. At least, he was actively trying to be less of one, these days. A lot of his problems would be solved if he had a little more courage. 

“I want a burger, definitely,” He chuckled, “and a sprite.” He narrowed his eyes for a second, looking up at her before nodding, “and a milkshake, for my fries.” 

He set up his amp and with a buzz it crackled to life and he tested out the opening riff with a smile. He wasn’t nearly as good as his actual guitarist, and he was content in the knowledge that he never would be no matter how much he practiced, but this would be good enough for a few songs. 

“Well this one might be a single, maybe, hopefully,” He shrugged, “But we’ve been hard at work on the album, promise.”

“Ready?” He asked, the corner of his lips curling into an almost excited grin as he winked at her. 

Singing had always come easy to him. Sometimes it even felt more natural than breathing and he got lost in it every time without fail. He hoped that the feeling would never simmer, but he felt positive that it never would. There was just something about music that made him feel seen, heard. It was an unusual feeling for a middle child like him, but looking up at Cleo he realized that it wasn’t just music that made him feel like that. 

The thought made his heart clench. 

He shook himself from his thoughts, focusing instead on finishing the song and feeling a wave of relief when his fingers slid over the closing notes. 

“So, uh, yeah. That’s that.” He laughed awkwardly. 

             comfort  warmed  her  body  as  he  told  her  he  didn’t  delete  her  number  .  he  didn’t  have  to  say  he  did  ,  or  that  he  didn’t  ,  but  he  did  &  that  was  what  mattered  to  cleo  . 

             “  a  burger  ,  got  it  .  ”  it  took  her  fingers  no  time  to  type  out  select  the  items  that  he  &  she  both  wanted  .  she  made  sure  she  was  quick  ,  not  wanting  to  be  distracted  from  the  new  sneak  peak  .

             a  shine  of  cleo’s  eyes  as  she  watched  kal  get  more  situated  with  his  guitar  ,  all  while  answering  her  questions  .  “  i’ve  been  ready  ,  ”  &  she  had  whole - hearted  had  been  for  a  while  now  ,  much  longer  prior  to  this  meeting  .  -------  so  she  sat  there  ;  her  eyes  flickering  between  the  musician  &  his  instrument  .  listening  to  the  melodies  as  well  as  his  voice  seemed  to  be  hypnotic  .  it  felt  like  she  was  being  embraced  in  such  a  sweet  sensation  .  

             somehow  ,  it  felt  like  the  world  had  stopped  as  he  continued  on  .  but  that  feeling  only  lasted  for  what  felt  like  mere  seconds  .  his  singing  had  come  to  a  conclusion  &  the  guitar  to  a  stop  .  it  was  an  immediate  action  for  cleotilde  to  raise  from  her  seat  ,  walking  over  to  kal  just  to  carefully  take  his  guitar  from  him  &  set  it  down  ,  “  that’s  was  wonderful  .  ”

             habits  .  habits  were  very  difficult  to  avoid  in  these  circumstances  ;  especially  when  they  came  to  involve  kal  .  her  reaction  to  lean  down  &  pull  the  other  in  for  a  kiss  was  slow  ,  but  eager  &  an  automatic  .  it  was  like  second  nature  for  her  ,  to  snake  her  hand  towards  the  nape  of  his  neck  .

caleb  gave  the  other  a  soft  smile  as  he  saw  her  smile  .  there  was  something  about  her  smile  that  felt  like  it  was  contagious  .  anytime  caleb  was  around  her  and  she  smiled  ,  he  couldn’t  help  but  smile  as  well  .  “no  ,  let  me  buy  you  dinner  .  my  treat  .”  he  said  softly  .  “so  what’s  your  plan  for  today  ?”  he  questioned  as  he  looked  at  her  .  

          the  grin  on  her  lips  only  grew  as  caleb  continued  onwards  ,  “  you  know  you  don’t  have  to  buy  me  dinner  .  you’re  the  one  who’s  doing  me  a  favor  silly  .  ”  there  was  something  comforting  about  him  offering  to  pay  ,  but  the  pessimistic  side  of  cleo  knew  not  to  get  her  hopes  up  .  “  i  was  thinking  thrift  shopping  .  which  can  actually  provide  a  lot  of  good  steals  as  well  as  some  funny  outfits  .  ”  she  paused  for  a  moment  ,  “  hey  do  you  watch  tiktok  at  all  ?  ”

He couldn’t help but chuckle as he eyed the sweats she had chosen and his head tilted questioningly before he took them with a fond shake of his head. It had never been a secret to him that she loved those particular sweats. If it had been a few months prior he probably would have even teased her about it but now he simply took them with a quiet thanks and tugged them on before running a hand through his damp hair to brush it out of his face. 

“Oh, well I’d have to talk it over with the band but I don’t see them saying no.” He shrugged. Really at the end of the day it would be his decision and, because he was him and it was Cleo asking, he knew the answer would be yes. He had always been willing to do just about anything she asked of him before. That much hadn’t really changed. 

He pulled over a chair and grabbed one of the guitars that lined his wall, already intent on tuning it as he sat down, a nervous habit he had picked up as a kid and had never been able to get rid of. Right now he needed an extra bit of courage and hiding behind an instrument, any instrument, gave him that. 

“Was that really al-” he cut himself off with a shake of his head, “We’ve been working on some new stuff, you know,” He settled on. “If you had a minute I could order some food and, I don’t know, give you a private concert.” He laughed. It sounded ridiculous but he didn’t want her to leave just yet. Who was to say when the next time she would be forced to talk to him would be. 

             “  oh  that’s  good  then  .  just  ,  uh  ,  let  me  know  .  you  still  have  my  number  i  hope  .  ”  it  was  a  bit  disheartening  that  their  conversation  would  end  there  ,  but  cleo  didn’t  have  anything  else  to  add  or  ask  of  kal  &  his  band  .  hell  ,  she  could’ve  just  asked  him  over  text  about  the  additional  day  .

             before  cleotilde  could  leave  though  ,  kal  was  catching  her  off  guard  by  grabbing  his  guitar  .  there  was  an  inkling  of  what  was  about  to  happen  ,  which  honestly  caught  cleo’s  heart  off - guard  .  “  oh  .  yeah  .  i  could  stay  to  listen  .  ”  a  private  concert  ?  just  for  her  ?  this  alone  would  bring  back  so  many  memories  of  the  past  concerts  -  both  public  &  private  .  

             “  what  sounds  good  ?  i  can  order  the  food  while  you  play  .  it’s  the  least  i  can  do  since  you’re  spoiling  me  with  an  exclusive  song  .  ”  pulling  her  phone  out  ,  cleo  was  getting  ready  to  order  food  whether  it  was  calling  in  a  favor  with  one  of  the  chefs  at  the  villa  ,  or  if  it  was  through  ordering  on  ubereats  or  doordash  .  

             for  a  moment  though  ,  as  cleotilde  sat  down  on  the  other’s  bed  ,  her  eyes  looked  up  at  kal  ,  lips  pursed  in  thought  .  “  what  kind  of  song  is  it  ?  ”  his  band  always  produced  quality  music  &  despite  being  her  ex  ,  she  would  never  stop  being  their  fan  or  stop  buying  their  merch  .  “  is  this  going  to  be  a  single  ?  or  a  full  new  album  ?  ”  so  many  questions  she  had  ,  although  if  they  were  still  together  she  knew  she  wouldn’t  have  to  ask  .

“  hey  ,  i  was  all  for  endless  breakfast  buffets  ,  give  me  breakfast  and  i’m  a  happy  girl.  having  your  own  beach  or  pool  for  the  day  though  ?  like  ,  that’s  the  perfect  idea.  ”  sierra  simply  loved  the  fact  that  this  would  be  possible  because  it  was  something  her  own  family  never  let  her  do  ,  so  if  she  could  do  it  just  by  filling  out  a  survey?  why  not  ?  “  that’s  a  stretch  ,  but  i  can  pass  the  word  along  and  get  you  some  responses.  ”

             there  was  a  soft  hum  that  came  from  cleo’s  closed  mouth  as  she  listened  to  sierra  .  she  certainly  was  blessed  to  be  able  to  talk  things  out  &  bounce  ideas  off  of  her  .  “  i’ll  have  to  double - check  with  my  higher  ups  about  allowing  it  first  .  but  i  don’t  think  they  would  be  all  that  upset  about  it  since  it  would  help  me  plan  future  events  here  .  ”

“i  have  to  admit  ,  shopping  is  not  my  favorite  activity  .”  the  boy  said  as  he  was  surprised  by  cleo’s  question  .  he  knew  most  people  wold  like  to  go  shopping  with  a  close  friend  or  something  ,  but  for  some  reason  cleo  was  relying  on  him  .  “but  ,”  he  paused  as  he  gave  her  a  devilish  grin  .  “i’m  willing  to  make  an  exception  for  you  .  so  yeah  i’ll  join  you  on  your  little  shopping  spree  .”

             cleotilde’s  heart  nearly  dropped  as  the  other  confessed  to  shopping  not  being  something  he  prefered  to  do  .  what  was  cleo  thinking  ?  only  a  selected  few  people  actually  enjoyed  going  out  &  about  to  shop  -  so  she  couldn’t  blame  them  .  there  was  a  soft  smile  &  a  darker  hue  to  her  cheeks  after  he  turned  around  &  agreed  to  going  with  her  .  “  i’ll even  buy  you  dinner  to  show  my  thanks  .  ”
