when i was in high school i used to write my papers thinking wow i’m just bullshitting all of this. then like a week before my senior year ended after all the grades were set, i was talking to my english teacher and told him you know i just bullshitted every paper i wrote. he told me that while i may have thought i was just pulling it all out of my ass, i genuinely knew what i was talking about and made well-supported analyses. i only thought i was bullshitting because it didn’t take much effort and it all seemed obvious to me. if you do well on your essays even though you think you’re just making it up as you go, chances are you’re not pulling it out of your ass. you’re just a genuinely talented analyst, even if the analysis that you’re making comes from a subconscious understanding of the material rather than a conscious effort to study it. give yourself some credit.

“tumblr the best social media in 2021” no. enough complacency. this site is abysmal. for the last two months desktop tag searches on my own blog returned absolutely nothing. a third of my followers are p0rnbots. to get my theme right I have to manually crop the header twelve times using guesswork and a prayer and then check how it looks in three different places. video posts take ten minutes to even show up. sometimes asks just disappear like it’s the 1800s and your carrier pigeon got eaten by a bobcat. the staff randomly posts cryptic distorted messages?? genuinely on any other site the userbase would RIOT here it’s like oh well guess i’ll spend an hour rewriting the 2 thousand words that got eaten by my drafts. there was a guy fieri arg what the hell was that about

Little things in Knives Out:

At the beginning when everyone had SLIGHTLY different versions of the same story

Like the birthday cake when Linda was telling the story the scene showed HER family behind Harlan but when Walt was telling the story it was him beside his father. Each of them imagined themselves at their father’s side

Which I think hints a lot at how self-centered everyone in the Thrombley family was

And each family member said Marta’s family was from a different place, Ecuador, Paraguay, Brazil, Uruguay, we never actually get this answered

And when Richard was praising Marta for being such a ‘hard worker’ and then handed her the plate. WOW. volumes.

The family KEPT claiming that they “wanted Marta at the funeral”

Daniel Craig with a whack Southern Accent?? LOVED IT. the whole donut metaphor was goddamn hilarious

I LOVED when Ransom trying to Kill Marta with the prop knife and it’s a callback to Harlan saying “he could never tell the difference between a prop knife and a real one”

And can we talk about the idea of Harlan’s pride being his downfall

I mean he thinks he should just do all this himself BUT he wasn’t even poisoned and if he had accepted outside help he wouldn’t have had to die

And if you notice when Ransom is walking back to the house he steps on the stone wall to avoid getting his footprints on the path

That final shot when Marta is on the balcony and everyone else is looking down

We didn’t get a lot of Linda’s character but she and her father were very close. He left her a secret message THAT SHE UNDERSTOOD with the lemon juice and she kind of gave in the Marta at the end

Idk her character is very complex and even though it was a small role I loved Jamie Lee Curtis in it

Ana da Armas KILLED it and I loved watching her the WHOLE movie. It felt v Victorian Crime Fiction

Like she’s the ‘villain’ for most of the film but she clearly the morally superior one here and I wanted her to get away with everything

The part at the fireplace where Marta says Blanc is a terrible detective and he says she’s a terrible Murdered 10/10

They WENT BACK to the dogs barking because Ransom showed back up

basically, every detail as used in order to push forward the plot

Great chemistry between Ana de Armas and Daniel Craig. Fantastic acting!

cute couple things i’ve seen on campus this semester that make me want a stupid boyfriend

girl and guy were sitting on the same chair with the guy behind her only he was hugging her waist and fast asleep on her shoulder while she was working on her computer

saw this couple across the street from me waiting for the bus. the guy did the thing where he pretends to look for something in his bag and pulls out a finger heart instead

in the hallway i watched this girl run up to her bf and he gives her the biggest hug and goes “see told you you’d kill your presentation” then kisses her forehead

girl sitting next to me in the library has been grinding on an assignment all day (like i’d have been in the library from 10-3 with breaks in between for classes but she’d been sitting there the whole time) and her boyfriend would come in every few hours, put down food or coffee on her table, kiss the top of her head, and walk away without a word

in one of my smaller classes (probably around 30 people) this guy’s phone rang and he sprung up and left the class to answer it. usually profs don’t care if you leave class but this one is really small and he knows all of our names/faces, so when the guy comes back in the prof asks if everything was ok. he has the biggest grin on his face and says “yeah, sorry that was my girlfriend. her flight took off right before it started snowing so i was worried. she’s okay tho.”

was sitting outside and reading when it was warmer and i could see this couple sitting under a tree a little ways away from me. the girl was laying in his lap while he was on his phone. suddenly i heard an alarm go off so i look up and they start switching places so now he’s laying his head on her lap and she’s reading sitting up. it happened twice more after that
