Academy Award Winners for Best Cinematography: 1998 — Russell Carpenter, ASC Titanic (1997) Directed by James Cameron Aspect Ratio: 2.39 : 1
Outlining his general lighting approach on the film, Carpenter says, "Early on, Jim [Cameron], production designer Peter Lamont and costume designer Debra Scott made decisions in regard to the period style, but there really aren't any set rules about what kind of lighting is or is not appropriate for a period film. Titanic will bear the stamp of Jim Cameron's very blue night lighting. But there's also a lot of amber in this picture, which is quite a departure. With the warmer tones, we sometimes added a bit of a sepia feeling to some of the light." Carpenter had considered the cinematographic approaches of several other period films, including Howard's End, Heaven's Gate and The Natural. Other influences included paintings by John Singer Sargent and Caravaggio. — American Cinematographer, December 1997
Made a hell of a life for yourself, Nisha. Killing trained soldiers on the moon's a far cry from flaying bandits alive on Pandora. Keep this up, maybe we can start killing some real badasses.
John Seed — a little roughed up, but still dangerously handsome. Cigarette, blood on his nose, that sinful kind of stare. I drew him the way I see him — not a saint, but damn charismatic.

I’m curious about all my gaming followers: first Pokémon game, first Zelda game, and first Mario game in the tags?
But now you know there was a man named Jack Dawson, and that he saved me, in every way that a person can be saved.

Famous Mustangs: Pt 2 - Hidalgo
Hidalgo is a mustang that predates the BLM - he was a famous mustang of 1890. Best known for the epic biographical Western that bears his name, this mustang was once part of Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show, where he was advertised alongside Frank T Hopkins as “the world’s greatest endurance horse and rider.”
The drama of his tale kicks off when a wealthy Sheikh requests that Buffalo Bill does not use that moniker unless the pair can prove themselves against the al-Khamsa Arabians in the ‘Ocean of Fire’ 3000 mile race in the Najd desert.
I won’t spoil the movie, but the pair go on to try their hand. There’s romance, drama, and swashbuckling. There’s a great deal of disagreement about the legitimacy of the story from a historical standpoint, with most concluding that despite the Hollywood “based on a true story“ claims, Hidalgo and Hopkins never existed.
The horses used in the film are also not mustangs, but American Paints. One of them, RH Tecontender, was bought by Hopkins’ actor, Viggo Mortenson.
i can’t get over beth’s parental development shown in s5 ep3 (not allowing planetina to live with them and thus leading morty to run away with her)… she has never shown morty in any way that she cares about his safety or well-being: choosing summer over him in that “morty’s mindblowers” flashback, allowing her father to take him on “adventures” that are increasingly more traumatizing, and constantly neglecting him as a parent—so much so that when he and summer disappeared for a week to be replaced by very unconvincing robots she was none the wiser. but here she decides to step in and establish authority over him, insisting that he’s not mature enough to have been dating planetina in the first place. in morty’s mind he’s allowed to be exposed to constant mental and physical trauma with rick but not to be exposed to teen dating. it makes sense that he would break down the way he did.
speaking of that breakdown, watching beth’s facial expressions she doesn’t seem phased at all until he starts getting into his familial role—“everything I have to say is always met with an eye roll as if the act of hearing what I have to say is some exhausting chore” and her facial expression drops. but it’s clear that she still doesn’t take morty seriously because once he slams the door she sits at the table and waits for him to come back instead of following him out.
knowing that beth most likely follows much of the same parenting she recieve(d) from rick, it’s no surprise that she would neglect morty in the way she usually does:
and based on her and jerry’s conversations in “raising gazorpazorp,” she took rick’s methods of neglect and went with it: “put it down and let it cry itself out.”
so when morty finally calls her out on her bullshit, i’m glad it actually works because at the end of the episode we see her make a conscious effort to show that she’s there for him:
she’s still not quite winning the parent-of-the-year award in my book, but i really love what this episode accomplished.
