With Tumblr starting to roll out age verification, it feels like a good time to bring this up.
I went to my app store and turned off automatic updates back when the staff tried to roll out their reblogs bullshit last month or whenever that was. The age verification is only in the UK and Brazil for now, but it'll probably spread.
Go to the app store and turn off automatic updates. Do it now. I will probably never update my app again. The people making these decisions can't be trusted and when the "age verification" database inevitably gets hacked, they will have some limp excuse and keep on doing it.
Discord is still going to go through with age verification. To help prevent this, you should not buy decorations, not watch ads, not buy nitro, and continue to bother/spam them.
If you think it won't affect you, it will. They will use ai to determine if a server needs to be age restricted, potentially locking people out of servers whether there was actual NSFW in it or not... (normal images have been getting marked as inappropriate for years), and considering the way their moderation already isn't very good, accounts could be banned for determining other accounts are minors even if they're not.

Hey so this is probably my mistrust of ads and ai bots speaking, but I feel like the shapes inc ai thing I've been getting ads for (and have been reporting them as malicious, broken, and inappropriate) is extra dangerous because the advertiser's name is super fucking different with different PFPs and that just screams red flag to me.
It is dangerous.
They look that way to make people trust them more. I have an ad blocker, but I saw those ads SOOOO many times before that. The advertisers have unassuming usernames and fandom profile pictures to get more people to use their site. People can EASILY fall back into a chatbot addiction with those.
They're also advertising talking to your OCs, mutuals, or pets with their site, which ?????

idk how new this tactic is but APPARENTLY. I think theres a variant of the reported account scam where someone random slides into your dms and tries to say "oh you bought me these badges, are you hacked or something?" and directs you to fake support (fresh account with only a handful of eddsworld related things in the reblogs/likes/follows)

Reminder/Notice:
Tumblr does not use outlook.com as their email provider.
Tumblr will e-mail you from their own email that ends in tumblr.com if there are ever issues with your account for whatever reason.
Staff will never tell someone to message you, to then tell you to message them, staff, via an email, discord, or via some other method.
Staff will not do this. Ever.
Here are two examples of Tumblr's official emails.
If your account was reported, you will always get a email from Tumblr on the account you're linked to. They will not just ban, suspend, terminate, ect you, without letting you know. Anyone saying otherwise is lying to you. It's all in your email unless you turned notifications off. Check your junkmail if you didn't get anything.
If there's issues, or you report an account, you'll get emails from [email protected]. Example:
When you get an email saying you have an ask or a message, or you're signed up for their newsletter, you get a email from [email protected].
This is from tumblr dot com the website.
That is how you know it's real.
Again, Tumblr does not use outlook, gmail, hotmail, discord, or anything else. If you get a ask, message, or anything telling you to contact 'staff' at an address/website/platform, that is 100% a scam.

If not, there were some changes to it that, if passed, would include
Social media bans for under 16s here in the UK (similar to the one in Australia)
Age verification to download VPNs
And mandatory screenings for all devices
Now, just like with the online safety act here in the UK, this is all under the guise of "protecting kids", which is good intentioned (of course kids shouldn't be exposed to inappropriate content)
But doing stuff like age/ID verification is INCREDIBLY dangerous, and would potentially put people's private information at risk!

i dont know if i can say this here bc like. idk this isnt an advice or a vent blog its an anti ai blog and idk but i dont have many people to talk to and like. idk i just want one person to say "yeah that kinda sucks"
but my dad (who i love very much (which is why i feel so bad)) and i were talking about ai and i told him about the effects of it on artists and writers and then he pulls out his phone and he tells chatgpt or something similar to it "draw me ai art" and i. im just pissed bc hes doing that specifically to bother me!!! and i snatch the phone out of his hand before it can load and and he glares at me and says "hey. youre making me mad." and i (who has been watching feminist content all day and is currently in the mood of "why are you so much more important than me") say "well im mad too!" and hes like "its just a joke" and after everything i told him about ai i just yell "i pickpocket 100 dollars from you but its just a joke so its fine, right?"
idk im just half mad at my dad and half hurt and i feel bad bc that (raised voice, not caring about other persons feelings in the midst of my own, taking objects away) is usually the angriest i ever get at my family
