Said like someone who has never studied history, my god. Ancient texts don't exist in a vacuum just as modern novels don't. It's all about context and the society in which it was written. I can't ask the author of the Maxims of Ptahhotep exactly what he meant when he wrote them, but Ancient Egyptian cultural and social history can fill in a lot of those blanks. Those tell us authorial intent!

If you think you can remove 'authorial intent' from your analysis of a text and only focus on the text itself and what it reveals, you're not doing any analysis, you're just deciding what you feel like based on what you decided it means.

Damn no wonder we have a media literacy crisis. 'I've decided to just ignore authorial intent and go with what the plain text says' is a hell of a take.

Novel is a bit more blatant for 6x9 but same deal. I know Zeonic has QC against shipping bias so I trust this to be accurate. Hilarious how fast Relena catches it in both versions. Noin just spilling this Relena while Zechs is in denial.

You know what Zechs does clock though?

Lmfao like Treize didn't even have to say Une's name in the Episode 22 scene. He's tiptoeing around it like there's anyone else close to him who suffered a recent "split." Anime version can't really spit it out. Again, the novel version is more blatant and this is Zeonic's translation. Now THIS version just straight up says it plainly in such a panic that Zechs is all up in his internal monologue going "that's a level of crazy down bad I don't wanna mess with."

rlly fascinating phenomenon to me is when a character is extremely popular, and that popularity seems understandable enough because they've got something interesting going on, and then you look at the fandom and realize 99% of their fans don't actually care about engaging with any of the things that make them interesting and instead seem to be fans of an imaginary milquetoast version that exists solely for ship and/or angst content and is so far removed from the canon character they might as well be an unrelated OC at this point
