I must admit, I did rather like that scene myself -- it wasn't completely necessary, but I had felt Gwaine was being pushed aside and wanted her view and interactions with the staff... And Severus does deserve to be a little silly. By magical standards, he's really not that old....
Anyways. So. Unfortunately I've been a bit busy (fml -- why must cherries taste so good, but the season absolute torture?) and dont have many headcanons for them as a group, but I'll do a little lore drop and maybe be inspired lol. Just gotta put my glasses on real quick... *Squints at my notes*
Alcina (37) is, by my own canon, the shortest of the newbies at 5'3", but Gwaine is the youngest at 28 -- Severus (30) would be the tallest at nearly 6'1", Octavius (61) and Edward (41) are about 5'10", Enoyras (35) at 5'8", and Margana (35) and Gwaine are about 5'5".
Of the newbies, Gwaine is the only one who actually attended Hogwarts. She is 3 years younger than Severus and only vaguely recalls seeing him in school as he would have been in his 4th year when she started, and she would have graduated by the time he began teaching. (I don't think they would talk much about this time, if ever, as it was during the war and there are a lot of sore memories for both of them around this time.)
Margana is the second Irish staff member besides Pomona Sprout, and I headcanon both of them atteneded the Irish school Erehnoll before they moved to England at some point. (She's also based of Merlin BBC Morgana and her actor, Katie McGrath lol)
Alcina is the only one who didn't attend a formal magical school growing up and has the least formal education. She attended a small town school in El Salvador for a few years before dropping school to work. The man her parents worked for when they all moved to America practically adopted her family as his own, and saw that her and her younger siblings got an education.
Octavius is the only one with kids and grandkids; he has two daughters -- Anneliese, lawyer (35), and Erika, equine doctor (38), and his grandkids are 15 at the eldest and 8 at the youngest. So half the time he does treat the newbies (and Severus) as his adult children lol
Enyoras is the only currently married one (Octavius wife died of cancer around 1970), and they met their husband Julian when attending the Beauxbaton (equivalent?) university. (Enyoras is the chillest and least bothered of the bunch. They keep to themselves most of the time, but tbf they're busy observing things others can't see or feel like Luna Lovegood can.)
If Octavius is the dad of the group, Edward is the eldest and the older brother. Alcina is the eldest daughter, and Margana and Enyoras are different spectrums of the middle child, with Severus and Gwaine being the youngest -- though Severus feels more like the boy next door that got unoffically adopted into the family lol
With that being said one of my headcanons is that ofc all the girls tease the fuck out of Severus and Edward, both individually and about the other. Obviously. Alcina and Margana love teaming up the most against them, Gwaine does it more childishly like 'Severus and Edward sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G' way. Enyoras simply has a knowing and teasing smile, but doesn't give them a hard time (usually). (Enyoras unintentionally group therapist btw?)
I think the way that Alcina and Margana treat Severus like a younger brother helps him feel a little less bitter and serious. Heals a bit of his 20 year old self who didn't have a chance to indulge in being 'young and dumb' in a good way. Gwaine in a way would look up to him, one for his knowledge of plants, and two that he survived the war that he was very actively a part of (even if it was the wrong side to start with) and is, at least now, actively trying to be better.
Even though Gwaine can be seen as the most silly due to her being the 'baby', but she knows when to lock the fuck in and be serious (there are some plants you don't play around with). Ngl I feel like the rest of the staff besides Pomona would take her less serious, as she is again the youngest... ofc the gang knows better lol

I like the contrast of Phil looking very gentle and wearing light colors and speaking very softly while also being this bringer of Certain Death, with the blood of literal thousands on his hands. He presents himself as harmless because it makes enemies think they donāt need to run. He pretends heās nothing but kind and honest when in actuality heās actually rather cruel and manipulative, and he does have a bit of fun when he gets sent to go send a few doomed souls to the afterlife. Its like a demon wearing an angels face. Heās an āangelā alright. He appears so.
Now Technoblade being the exact opposite. Kind-hearted soul who is always wearing blood stained armor, red eyes staring down at you like its a threat, his sharp weapon always in hand, his voice always rough and harsh. He kills rather sparingly though, gives mercy more often than not. He makes himself appear like a danger so that trouble wonāt come to him. He acts cold and distant but cares quite a lot, even for the random stranger. He will fight if he must. He will kill if he must. Heād rather not though. Heād much rather sit in the flowers and listen to the birds. Thats far less of a headache
Something very funny about technoblade having the appearance of a terrible omen of death and yet when he approaches he doesnt bring down his weapon onto the doomed he instead just turns around to the most pleasant looking happy guy youve ever seen and goes ācan you please refrain from decapitating the people this time aroundā
Well technically he still is an omen of death at that point isnt he hes just not the one killing he just shows up with his buddy and then is like āoh yeah sorry heās got his errands to runā while phil burns down a village behind him
The basics are that piglins have a three part naming convention that includes a family modifier, personal identifier, and then a job or role.
These are usually two syllable names with the job at the end.
Tec-Hno-Blade
Tec: Family, sounder and where he came from
Hno: Personal identifier, added later in life and notes age and personality
Blade: Job, in this case fighter
This also scans for Cyberknife fun fact.
Cy: Family name
Ber: Personal identifier
Knife: Job, either cook, or possibly assassin
Adding the actual breakdown below the cut since its long and I get into MC game mechanics:
Anyways, so a little background first so this make sense, but I usually headcanon and write Techno as a full piglin so this interacts a decent amount with cannon Minecraft mechanics (not that there's much there in terms of language or concrete culture but I love them).
Obviously Technoblade is a kinda odd name, especially if you consider the existence of guys named things like Phil, or Sam or Tommy (as examples) who are usually depicted as human or human adjacent. So, assuming piglin Techno that means that one, piglins have their own naming conventions and two, that they almost certainly have their own language that differs from that of overworld languages.
Pulling from Minecraft mechanics for a moment: the fact that you can trade with piglins for enchanted books, means they clearly have some kind of written language or access to magic (potions, enchants) but it's different from overworld magic because there's no legitimate way to get an enchantment table in the nether. So, language, possibly written, because they also snort and grunt to each other and the player if you're wearing gold or trading with them. They also have a noise for 'I'm mad at you and going to stab you,' so it's clearly a complex language that we just don't understand.
Anyways back to names, so different language and culture means that we can now examine how a piglin might be named. So, if Technoblade is a canon piglin name that can act as the basis for the naming conventions. Breaking that down further we have the basic, Techno and Blade - he's been called both in different situations and chat love replacing both elements of his name for the purpose of memes (technoplane, technomean, etc.) I've also seen people break it down further into 'Tec' and sometimes going the opposite way with hyphenating the name (meannoblade) so we have three distinct parts of the name to work with: Tec, Hno and Blade.
So, piglins have hyphenated names consisting of two single syllable sounds and then a modifier. Assigning meaning to those is the fun part where we get to mix in some level of like... world and culture building.
We'll start with Blade since that's the most recognizable in the context of real actual words. Going back to MC mechanics, there's three types of weapons piglins use in game. Regular piglins use swords and crossbows, Brutes use axes. Blade could refer to either a sword or an axe but usually those are used for defense - so in the context of a culture that values hunting, wealth (gold) and group protection Blade becomes a modifier denoting a piglin's role in society. In the case of Technoblade - he's a defender, fighter and possibly a Brute (protector and respected position within bastions). This fits with the character, as a fighter and plays in nicely with playing around with things like the blood god, chat etc.
Using that, we then have the obvious modifiers: Blade and Bow. But this could apply to other jobs in piglin society - merchants could be referred to by their wares, potion brewers, scholars, etc. Some options I've come up with are Pick, Tusk, Hoof, Smith and so forth. These could also really easily be translated into other languages since they just refer to a job - so Technoblade can be a name denoting a job and position in society in the nether calling him just The Blade strips him of the other parts of the name but is easily recognizable by people outside of that culture - fun implications.
Next we look at Tec and Hno - I think you could just treat it as one name but that's no fun and the name Techno doesn't really compute well because one this isn't cyberpunk and two MC doesn't have computers. So, going back to piglins in game for a second, they usually travel in groups and it's rare to see piglins alone. We can also pull a little from real life boars which usually travel in family groups. So piglins are probably highly group oriented and have big families. I could write a different essay on piglins probably being very polyamorous because more kids is better and more partners means more food but we'll leave that for another day.
The obvious jump here is that we have a family and a personal name. I take it as Tec is a family name - it denotes which sounder (family or group of piglins) you are a part of and is the first name a piglin receives. Personal modifiers are added, usually connecting you to something culturally significant, in this case Hno, and that makes up the person's full name until they get a job and therefore a job modifier. Personal modifiers I have currently are, Hno (large or first), Ber (gold, wealth), Te (small or second), and Her (Fire).
This also scans with Nether as word (I could make this a language... but I won't). Net- Her - Net denoting location (below) and Her meaning Fire - so The Fire Below. Technoblade in this case would mean The first of the Tec sounder, defender if translated.
So Techno - using this as a basis I think we can also infer that it's rude to refer to a person just by the personal modifier since that strips them of both job and family connection - hence why it's normal for people to call him Tec or Techno but not just Hno and why calling him Technoblade or just The Blade shows different levels of formality. Tec is for people close to him or other family, Techno is a little more formal but still close, Technoblade is a sign of respect and The Blade wraps right around into you are someone I have hired to do a job for me relating to your role in society.
So! To make your own piglin name all you need is a family name (one syllable), a personal name (another syllable) and then a role! Using my blog as inspiration my name would probably be: Nethberpick or golden of Nether, builder.
I also have decided that piglins will shorten visitors names and then add 'za' on the end to denote that they are not of Nether and are a stranger - so Philza actually translates to that guy Phil who is not from here. Techno called him this for years after they first met and Phil just never asked him why, liked how it sounded so that's his name now.
Anyways, this was long, I hope people enjoyed this and I'd love if people shared their own piglin names because I've thought way too much about this.

my nether names ALSO have a three part convention, the family name, the nature infix (middle bit), and the affiliations at the end.
tekan: family name. as in technos unique name that also has ties to his family
'o': the 'type' of piglin he is, aka a piglin brute
badeh: various sounds associated with the gods he primarily worships.
i too shall get into the specifics under the cut because theres A Lot Of Them
so first off! i rewrote the alphabet. theres 21 letters in the piglin alphabet; a ah b d dh e Ä eh f h i k l n o r rh t u v z. you will notice that 4 of these are compound letters, they are pronounced in a 'softened' way, and are written different in the writing system (you put an extra line beneath the root sound, aka a becoming ah if u underline it. theres no tidy way to denote this in english, the best ive found is like. bad(eh). esp. bc h is its own letter. the (eh) in bad(eh) is pronounced differently from the eh in zehan) (i am also considering adding a 21st letter aka zh)
there is an l in the piglin language but its not super commonly used
tekan'o'bad(eh) is thus a) not a very normal name for overworlders and b) not all that easy to pronounce. hence it got simplified into the similar enough sounding 'technoblade' and no one really bothered to ask further than that
anyways. into the actual construction.
family names are usually two syllables, but this can change depending on how many parents you have/want to associate with. traditionally its two sounds from the middle of your parents' family names smushed together. you can trace family names back this way. so tekan is a combination of 'te' and 'kan' (or could be 'tek' and 'an' if u wanted)
the nature infix denotes what type of piglin you are; brute (naturally stronger and larger, not gender specific), sow (naturally more fertile and calm, again not gender specific), runt, regular piglin, hybrid, and i SWEAR i had one for stillborns but i am trawling through my google drive and cannot find evidence of it. anyways. in order they are:
'o' - brute
'(dh)' - sow
'a' - runt
'v' - regular
't' - hybrid
this is the only part of a piglins name that is incredibly unlikely to change at any point in their life. its unusual for a family name to change but still possible, but changing ur biology is. significantly harder
then the last part is the most changeable part, its related to which of the four cornerstone gods of the nether you have the most affiliation with. when ur parents name u they generally go for either their gods, or the gods they want blessings for u from. theres a variety of sounds associated with each god, i wont list them all, but im thinking of dividing them up even more to represent different aspects of each gods' domains.
the four cornerstone gods are the four main gods of the nether, representing the necessary things for successful settlement and life in the harshness of the nether. they are as follows
the blaze empress - she is the burning heart of the nether, a like. overarching presence and unifier. she is the goddess of unity and cooperation in a way. she also concerns smaller aspects such as healing, fire, leadership, and creation. she can be simplified to the founder of the nether's inhabitants. she represents how survival in the nether is an organised group effort
the wither - the wither is representative of the unknown, and the border between the known and the unknown. they arent a malicious god, but emphasise a respect for this boundary. they also have aspects of travel, fighting/war, death, and boundaries of all kinds. they can be simplified to the death and war god. they represent how survival in the nether requires a wariness and understanding of boundaries between the civilised and the wild
the blood god - the blood god is the god of blood ties and community, and of forging, fostering, and maintaining these bonds. he again isnt a malicious god, his name usually misinterpreted by overworlders. he has domains in community, defence, strength, and family ties. he can be simplified to the god of connections and protection. he represents how important family and community are to lasting survival in the nether
aurum - they are the god of plenty, prosperity, and produce. lots of ps. he encompasses all things food and supplies, as well as group prosperity, wealth, and sharing of. they have smaller aspects of gold, farming, life, and trade. they can be simplified down to the god of plenty, and she represents the need for food and supplies to survive in the nether, and the necessity of sharing these
SO ALL THAT BEING SAID!!!!! bad(eh) is a combination of the sounds ba and d(eh), ba for the blood god, and d(eh) for the wither. this was not the suffix given to techno at birth, nor the one he grew up with. my headcanon backstory for him is he grew up in a wither bastion (bastions are very dedicated to their god) and Did Not Have A Fun Time. he ran away and started worshiping the blood god of his own accord and changed his name to match, but still kept the d(eh) because his childhood is an important part of who he is.
