I don't know what this is, but Barbatos's new, darker side in the new game, the (practically canon) possibility that he might be Nightbringer, and all the secrets he holds, make me think of the huge goldmine of fanfiction and angst we could get out of this.

look i’m sure christopher nolan’s odyssey is a good retelling of the original myth but i’m honestly just sick of nobody challenging the popular and deeply inaccurate portrayals of greek culture. argue creative liberties all you like but it’s still contributing to the cycle of “nobody knows jackshit about this culture so we should just stick to popular, innacurate, and sometimes even harmful portrayals so we don’t overwhelm general audiences with too much new information” that plagues not only portrayals of greece but several black and brown cultures. i’m not necessarily against portrayals like this in general (generalizations of medieval europe idgaf about), but i have an issue when it’s the only type of exposure a culture can get with mainstream audiences. hundreds of millions of dollars put into making this, and barely any voices from the culture this movie was based on got to contribute to the film. i’m really fucking tired of that kind of thing
