Superman (2025) by Patrick Ballesteros.
From "It's Superman!" by Tom De Haven. This will forever be my favorite interpretation of Clark's childhood
So Iām trying to draw a disappointed ClarkĀ and somehow sailed right by that and I got to devastated/disassociating Clark lol
im not going to tell anyone what to do or what terms they choose to identify themselves with bc every argument about that sort of thing always ends poorly. nor am i particularly interested in hashing out which members of which queer subcommunities can reclaim which terms. but i am⦠cautious? wary? when i interact with someone that uses the term āfemboy.ā not because i want to police your identity or because i hate gnc men or whateverā again, no interest in those conversationsā but because that word has a history and a cultural context that, when you use this term, you are invoking whether or not youāre aware of it.
if you havenāt been on grindr, in instagram comments, or other spaces where cishet men openly express their obsession (which includes both attraction and ritual disgust) with the transfeminized body, it can be hard to explain. the best way i can express it is that āfemboyā is a spiritual successor to ātrap.ā itās a term conceived for and proliferated by pornography titles, locker room conversations on what constitutes faggotry, and the blank grindr bios of DL men. the thing to remember is this: when power sees āfemboy,ā it doesnāt understand it as āfeminine man.ā this becomes obvious if you are ever unfortunate enough to experience firsthand a conversation wherein femboys are the subject cishet men are discussing in assumed confidence. āfemboyā is parsed as āsex-objectā by these men, as fuckable thing with a pretty face, as woman-shaped pleasure dispenser that you can use and abuse in motels and the back seats of lifted trucks, that you can discard when your family finds out. the transmisogyny and degendering and objectification that undergirds the use of this word in the cishet zeitgeist feels pretty apparent to me.
i donāt hate femboys. i regularly interact with and consider friends many who use the term for themselves. i frankly could care less if you identify as one. not my circus, not my monkeys. all iām asking is that before you put that term in your bio, that you stop and consider the history and meaning and weight behind it and the cultural context that you are invoking by using it
i suppose my damage is that it is sometimes a little frustrating to see people thoughtlessly claiming a label thatās forcibly assigned to trans women and transmisogynized people in order to sexualize, misgender, and objectify us. if you choose this as an identity label instead of it being assigned to you by society against your will, you should actually know that it is often used by powerful men to avoid acknowledging the womahood of transfems. if youāre going to use femboy, use it. genuinely, go ahead. but i donāt think itās too much to ask that you know the context and history. know what it means to people who are marked as femboys by society. know what it means to the cishet men who abuse and discard us and escape accusations of misogyny by degendering us with words like it. if you had a choice in the matter, itās important to understand and acknowledge that there are many of us who didnāt
if we called mindfulness 'consciousness and attention training' a lot more different kind of people would see the value maybe
having feelings that contradict your morals is soooo fucking annnoooooyyyiiingggggg. can the emotions and logic department get on the same page im tired of having to like strangle myself into being a tolerable person

i set a challenge to myself to draw something with a limited colour palette and had a VISION of a lantern in a lush forest. so here's kyle and a unicorn
i think i saw a movie like this once
Ok I needed to know the story and
Guy makes a really stupid decision and gets in a car accident -> no real damage from accident but insurance goes up -> starts beating himself up over his stupid decision -> gets depressed -> starts to realize he's single and had crash been worse he'd die alone -> realizes he's never had a relationship or even a crush and starts wondering what he'd want out of a relationship -> starts to realize he doesn't really like girls so he thinks he must be gay -> realizes he likes girls and boys about the same amount, so he must be bi -> later realizes that "same amount" is none at all -> he's ace
terrifying when you watch a movie or a show or whatever & youre like that was fun but it felt a little redundant they didnt need to hammer the point home that much & then you go online & theres thousands of people going that was so weird i did not get it what did that mean google.com ending explained please?

Reposting because even after 5 years I still think about this edit
lowkey kinda hate how all the pride flags are just stripes, can we get some shapes up in here pls
why not have the reader re-read a sentence now and then? it won't hurt him....
I forgot to post this but guess who got to meet David Humphrey last weekend!
FYI I only asked him to say "trans rights are human rights," he chose to add "Remember, we're the coolest!" which implies Shadow himself is also trans, completely of his own volition.
You heard it here first, Shadow the Hedgehog is canonically transgender, David Humphrey told me himself
I don't know how to articulate this well but oh my fucking god I love how superman just wants to do good by everyone and how multiple times throughout the movie he gets placed in these impossible moral situations where he has to choose between who to save and he just freezes bc this is the guy who wants to save every single person and animal who crosses his path. i love how that can be a flaw in its own right but it is also his greatest strength.
and how much it hurts him when people get hurt and he couldn't stop it, like you know he blames himself for all of it. that scene where the guy who saved him got shot and he's just whimpering and rocking back and forth and lex luthor says "maybe next time I'll kill clark kent" like bro you just killed him and you don't even know it. hell, he is hoping you'll kill clark kent. the weight of the world is on his shoulders all the time, and he tries to save people with wild abandon, no regard for himself. how as soon as that thing about his parents came out he thinks it's him who's a bad person. world's most moral ocd having guy.
I love how he gets such righteous anger over injustice but still treats everyone, I mean everyone, as someone who is worthy of redemption and kindness. How someone can literally be trying to kill him and he's still like "you can be better than this, you don't have to do this".
anyways. i really enjoyed the superman movie. i can't believe i've always said i hated superman. i'm sorry mr man. i was wrong about you
One year later and I've discovered I was literally completely right
