Not a lot i can post, my bad
It's absolutely crazy that intellectual labor can wipe you out. It seems like it shouldn't be a thing, like your stores of brain juice shouldn't be able to be depleted in that way.
I feel like a wizard that's out of spell slots, and to me that's a hackish mechanical limitation put in place to try to balance the classes.
#it's fucked and it's bad design #i should be able to write and edit for 20 hours a day #i'm just sitting there how are we even using energy #feels made up (via @softest-punk, emphasis mine)
Your brain is an incredibly energy-intensive organ. It makes up approximately 2% of your total body mass, but at rest it's using 22% of your total energy intake. The only thing that uses the same percentage of energy is all of your skeletal muscle (which is about 40% of your total body mass), with the liver (about 2.6% of your total mass) close behind at 21% (Aragon et al, 2017).
And that's how much energy it's using at rest.
That's the baseline.
So if you're doing lots of intellectual labour, your brain - which already has disproportionately huge energy demand - is going to use even more energy to keep up with the work. That's why you feel so wiped/drained/like you're out of spell slots after high intellectual demand - because your brain is an organ, and you've just done a lot of high-energy work with a high-energy organ.
Feed your brain.
popping in to remind everyone that even though the brain is amazing it is a simple creature that cannot eat fats and proteins. needs simple carbs!
so when we say feed your brain: we mean SUGAR.
The mammalian brain depends upon glucose as its main source of energy, and tight regulation of glucose metabolism is critical for brain phys

Glucose is the essential metabolic fuel for the brain. Acute and severe reduction of brain glucose leads quickly to impairment of cognitive

there are some things a character should not be able to tell us about themselves EVEN with a gun to their head. depending on the character that could even expand to include "most" things
i'm talking "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink" territory. "i've constructed an elaborate rube goldberg machine of plot to force this character to have precisely the realization about themselves that i want them to, and i'm only maybe 60% sure it'll work" territory. "the deity of their choice reveals it to them in a dream and they wake up and say, 'no, that can't be right,' and promptly forget about it" territory.
I am once again stealing art ideas from people on Twitter because they are funnier then me (also I was too lazy to properly color this
for the record im not technially 100% anti-AI, in the sense that its a broad category of tech being lumped under one umbrella term so it feels over-zealous to say i hate all of it all the time forever. but i also think trying to discuss what it actually IS good for is difficult right now when i cant take one step without something trying to convince me to use chatgpt to summarize my life and speed up my hobbies and turn my friends into chatbots and optimize my life into oblivion. i am certain there is nuance to the topic but can we stop cramming the square peg into the round hole before you start trying to sell me on the legitimate benefits of the square peg. please.
here's my super-quick, easy-to-digest summary that i use when i can't spend more than like 15 seconds on it but need someone to know the basic distinctions:
generative AI - bad evil AI. chatbots, LLMs, image generators, etc. this the one that steals shit.
analytical AI - helpful medical AI. this the one that helps detect cancer early.
game "AI" - fake AI. 100% human created and dictated. this the one that determines game mob behavior n stuff.
looked up russians vs japanese piracy twt beef and its worse than i thought😭 it all started with japanese users being mad at discovering there's all those unofficial russian manga reading sites. russians tell them that there's not much licensed manga in russia to consume legally in the first place. japanese say its your problem, you should then go to japan and buy it legally. russians obviously go ??? it's crazy expensive to fly to japan plus we're sanctioned and often can't purchase foreign things with our money. japanese go full russophobia and say ahhh you evil aggressors deserve it for war. russians answer that even before the war this wouldn't be a solution. then brazilians join russians to fight on the side of piracy and started gotcha japanese with their war crimes and xenophobia. then other japanese users joined on the side of piracy and said anti-piracy japanese are hypocrites because its common in japan to listen to pirated western music. i guess this made japanese anti-piracy people even madder and they went all in saying crazy stuff like comparing piracy to rape. the more hilarious example was one japanese user trying to gotcha russians by threatening to pirate and read... dostoevsky🤣 sums up their level of ignorance regarding this whole topic.

gently takes anyone considering giving the FF14 free trial a shot what with the expansion to cover Shadowbringers coming up by the arm
you will see a lot of people joking about skipping ARR. you will see a lot of people saying you should skip ARR.
do not listen to these people. yes, ARR is a bit rough. it was a last chance at making FF14 work after the disaster of the original launch. it is introducing characters and concepts because it has to, and that does mean it can be a little slow in spots.
but they went back a few years ago and did a massive trim in the ARR stuff and it did so goddamn much for ARR. they shortened quests where they could and removed others. when I went and started a new character last year, I literally only noticed one quest from the patches that was missing and that was because it had a really funny moment I was sad to see removed. a lot of people making the jokes or saying you should skip probably haven't played ARR in at least seven years.
you need to play ARR to understand why in Heavensward we're so leery of going for drinks with Aymeric or why we start in such a terrible position. you need to play ARR to understand how batshit insane it is when Zenos comes on to the scene in Stormblood and hands us our asses or why what we do in Doma is so big. you need to play ARR for the emotional impact of Shadowbringers to hit--and that's not just me saying it, they literally made a previously optional bit in ARR required because of Shadowbringers.you need to play ARR to be invested in everything happening in Endwalker and understand how fucking wild it all is. you cannot appreciate everything that folks say is "good" about FF14 without ARR. ARR is the first book in a series and you've gotta read it to enjoy the rest of it.
play ARR. please don't skip it and please ignore the people saying it sucks. when I played it on my alt last year I genuinely enjoyed it.
(now you may want to play it without voices, because after ARR they changed studios for recording and like the only characters who weren't recast are Aymeric and Haurchefant and that might throw some folks. personal preference though)
I’ve been thinking a LOT lately about what a weird and stressful experience it is to care a lot about a story when you don’t trust the storyteller.
Here's the third comic in the Open World AU. I decided it would be more interesting if the cast also had some limited ability to conjure and worldcraft, so I wanted to explore that. This comic is both the longest I've done yet and is the most involved painting-wise. I hope it was worth the wait!
So they just announced that they are putting Shadowbringers on the free trial of FFXIV, which means you can actually play my favorite story in a videogame for free now.
Like it's actually free, I played on the free trial and played almost the entire story when I started.
(do NOT buy anything until you're done, it's the kind of thing where the moment you pay, you have to start paying a subscription monthly forever, so I suggest playing on the Free Trial until you are finished with Shadowbringers. Just make sure you do not open your wallet at all and you can mosey on through on your timeframe without paying anything. It's the exact same game).
anyway it's actually wholly free now. My favorite terrible wizard love is for the people now. Play Shadowbringers so you understand
you can play FF14 without playing any other Final Fantasy game, they are all separate stories in separate worlds. So you don't need to know Final Fantasy or play a dozen games before it, they are all one-shots, if you will take a fanfiction frame of reference
ever since I was a little girl I knew I wanted to be into shit no one cares about
reblog to tell prev its gonna be okay
