First things first, we needed to procure marine grade plywood in order to build this sailboat. The closest location to purchase said plywood was all the way up in White Plains, a 45 minute drive north of the city. With no vehicles of our own, we were able to use Noah’s cousin’s sedan to go to Condon Lumber Co, a family company in business since 1912. After securing eight sheets of 12”x24” plywood to the roof of the car with twine, we headed home. It was a very windy day and on the interstate home, half a sheet of plywood took flight. After Noah valiantly rescued the fallen wood from oncoming highway traffic, a state trooper took notice and insisted that we get off the highway. This made the for a very stressful morning for both Rachel and I but eventually wood and the people made it back to the West Village safely.
