Coco is such an important main character to me. Her sense of hope and enduring wonder throughout the course of the story is so powerful and really such an encouraging thing to see, I love that she’s creative and determined and has such a strong sense of who she is and what she values even at such a young age. She’s observant and intelligent and above all else, she’s KIND. Shes only about 14 and she is one of the most impressive main characters I’ve seen in any anime. She’s complex and caring and funny and she cries and she has empathy and she’s just a kid who’s still learning about the world. And I so deeply admire her commitment and dedication to magic, even with everything that has happened, she still holds her head up and smiles and takes joy in her creations and the power of magic, even faced with people who will use magic for the most heinous things, even when faced with people who don’t believe she should even be practicing magic. She grits her teeth and says “I’m going to do good, I’m going to do magic on my terms and I’m not going to let you push me, I’m not going to let you turn me into someone I’m not. I’m going to make people happy, I’m going to help people, I’m going to save everyone and you can’t stop me” Coco you are so important to me i hope you never lose that wonder and whimsy.
