Cole Charlie Reynolds 34 | Werewolf | Detective Alpha of the Reynolds Pack --------- Cole grew up on the outskirts of a small town in Ohio. He grew up knowing that one day he would take the place of his father as alpha. Cole moved to New York City about a month before the fall of the Council with his long term girlfriend, Jenna. Cole is currently vying to become the alpha of the New York City pack and he won't give up without a fight. Cole also hopes to gain a place on the Council. Diana paused before she spoke again. “Do you want to talk about it? Because even though something is clearly bothering you, you haven’t exactly told me to get lost either. Unless, that’s what you want to do, then by all means you can do that too.”

Cole shrugged. “I feel rather indifferent to whether you stay or go.” He replied bluntly, not so much out of rudeness - not that he cared if that’s how it came across - but simply out of honesty. Cole was honestly passed caring about such things like that right now. Besides, one second he wanted to throttle anyone who spoke to him and the next he appreciated the distraction. “If you do say I suggest you have a drink as well, though. I’m far from the best company right now.”

New Perspective || Cole & Alexandra

Alexandra knew that Cole had been hurting from losing his dad. He had lost his parents in the same order that she had lost hers. However, she wanted to give him a bit of space since their last talk because he seemed like he had needed it. On top of that, she was working on getting her pack as strong as it once had been. After a couple weeks, she felt like it was safe to reach out to him. 

When she knocked on his apartment door, nobody had answered. So she decided to go to the station. Everyone at the station still remembered her and greeted her like they did when her father had still been chief. It was strange to walk back to the station, knowing Henry wasn’t there. It was there she found Cole in his office. 

Slowly she pushed open the door. “I know your busy. I remember coming here late at night to bring dad dinner. I just wanted to check on you and bring you this.” The blonde set a plate of cookies on his desk. “They’re my mom’s recipe, but they probably don’t taste as good as her’s did. I just want you to know that I take our alliance seriously, but not just that. I am here for you if you need me, Cole. I remember what it had been like. You don’t have to go through anything alone. I’ll get out of your hair now.” The werewolf started to turned her back to leave. She had said what she needed to and didn’t want to stay in Cole’s space for too long just in case he still needed to be left alone.

Cole was technically still on personal leave from his job at the precinct, but no one stopped Cole as he walked in and started to get on with some of his paperwork. They simply left him at his desk to get on with it. Some offered their condolences as they walked past but that was all. Cole was still quite new at the precinct and none of his co-workers really knew him well enough to say anything more. Aside from that, in a job like there’s, all of them had their own experiences of grief and saw it in others on almost daily basis; meaning they knew that sometimes you needed to do some work to distract yourself from it all. 

That is exactly why Cole had come to work. He had been pent up in his apartment for far too long. Cole had needed to get out. Not only that but he needed to get away. Cole had spent his days sorting out things to do with the pack and having awkward conversations with Jenna. He needed a break from his alpha duties and to get away from Jenna for his own sanity. The mundane task of doing some paperwork had been very appealing to him. 

Cole was rather surprised to see Alexa at the station. Even more so when her reason for coming was to bring him some cookies. Of course, he expected them to be nicer, or at least more civil,  to each other now that they were allies - partners even. Cole wasn't quite expecting this, though. Once he got over his shock it wasn't all that strange. After all, Alexa understood better than anyone what it was like to lose a parent. "Thank you." He answered simply. The break in his paperwork made him realise how tired he was and he could no longer stomach doing anymore. "I was just about to go and get some coffee if you wanted to join me. My treat." Cole wasn't sure if he was in the mood for company, but he was aware of the cruel things he had said to her before and this was his way of apologising.

“Well, sounds like a plan. Drink until it doesn’t hurt, right?”

“That’s the plan. Care to join me? First round is on me.”

“Okay, Reynolds.” He said in a mocking tone. It truly showed how grown they were now. From just kids to adults, it could be strange for anyone to see an old friend. To some the moment might have been filled with sorrow from the time lost, but Pratt knew it that it was for the best that they parted ways when they did. Cole was always going to be a wolf and life always had a way of pulling people into their destiny. Nonetheless things were going to get down to the bottom one way or another. They couldn’t just hop back into a friendship that died so long ago just because how familiar they were. Pratt listened to him speak of his way to being alpha. He was glad that his pack took to him well but he wasn’t quite sure why he glad for it. “That is really good to hear. I am,sure no one is ever prepared for the job at hand until it is officially theirs.” He smiled and nodded. “Actually yes.” He smiled once more, but there was a slight frown with it. “Horrible really. At least at first. Eventually things got better. I got increasingly better with a gun, learned how to aim throw with a knife. I was really good.“ He said cockily. "But i didn’t stick to it. I kept training but i didn’t hunt for a long while.” He told.

The news that Pratt didn’t hunt for quite some time didn’t really surprise Cole. Gene had never wanted to become a hunter, if he had had the same beliefs of his parents they would have never been friends at all. Unfortunately, despite Pratt not believing Cole was a monster for being a werewolf they were still pulled in their separate worlds. Worlds so different that they didn’t work together which led to them drifting apart. It had been hard for the young wolf at first, but as he got older he came to terms with losing his childhood best friend and knew that if the two continued being friends both of them could have ended up losing a lot more. “I got some practice in beforehand, which helped,” Cole said, not elaborating that he been acting alpha because of his father’s poor health. “So, what are you doing in New York?” Cole asked curiously. “Are you officially a  hunter now?”

“That’s good. They’ll be good here.” She nodded. Jenna wondered if he noticed how she said they, and not we. She didn’t spend much time with the pack back home, even more so now that she lived in New York. She was always the outsider, the poor sick girl that many believed Cole bit out of pity. Even when she and Cole were madly in love, there was always a sort of wall between her and the rest of the pack. Maybe one she built herself. It was never openly contested, they were obedient to Cole without fault. But she never felt like one of them, merely Cole’s girlfriend that they had to begrudgingly accept. Now that they were headed here, her comfort zone would soon be diminished. It was a harrowing thought. She let out a sigh, refocusing on the larger matter at hand. Looking up to Cole, she paused, an internal debate raging. After the air grew stagnant, she finally spoke. “How long are we going to keep doing this, Cole?”

Cole didn’t say anything more. What else was there to say on the matter? His father had died, Cole was now officially alpha and the pack would soon be moving to New York. Cole had told Jenna everything he had to because she at least deserved to know that much, but no longer wished to discuss it. Instead, he fell silent, growing lost in his own thoughts as he nursed his drink. Compared to when he left the bar Cole was a lot more sober and he was drinking another now just to keep his buzz going. Despite the situation being far from perfect Cole was looking forward to being surrounded by his pack, by his family once more. He missed them more than he admitted and without them Cole felt like he had lost a limb. He knew Jenna probably didn’t feel the same. She never really fully became a part of the pack. Cole knew why, although he was sure if Jenna knew. They saw Jenna as a threat. She came from the town and they thought her dating Cole was a risk, even more so when Cole bit her. They feared Jenna would expose them to the town. Cole was so lost in his own thoughts that it took a few seconds for Cole to process that Jenna had spoken, and what she had said. Cole looked at her with anger and surprise, knowing exactly what ‘this’ was. Why would she bring it up out of nowhere!? Especially now of all times. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He lied.

“Yeah, well you look like you could use a drink. Or maybe quite a few drinks.”

“That’s why I’m here. I plan on having quite a few drinks. Probably more seeing as being a werewolf means it’ll take longer to get to the state of numbness I desire.”

“I am sorry to hear that. If there is something that I could do to help you than I would like to try. Grief is never an easy thing to work through, especially when you are alone.”

“Just because I’m not a couple of centuries old doesn’t mean I haven’t experienced grief before. I am very familiar with it, and I know all to well how to deal with my grief.”

He smiled at him, the jokes never stopped coming even after these years. “You can call me Gene. I will accept that too.” he stated. Old friends or new ones who actually knew his real name could shorten it to Gene but calling him Eugene just bothered him.  For one it made him feel old. Pratt felt oddly comfortable still around Cole. Maybe it was becasue he didn’t feel any sort of way when they parted while young or maybe it was becasue it was always hard to dislike Cole. “It’s been a long time, Cole, a long long time.” he replied in reference to him being there.  “Normally i would stay away from places like these. Normally—  i wouldn’t have a reason to be here. I would prefer to live some where small and quite…” that was always the plan. Living somewhere where the supernatural was basically nonexistent. “..but a lot of things have changed since we last seen each other.” he could guess why Cole was there. he must have became alpha by now. he knew that is where he was headed before. Even if he hadn’t reached that status yet, he was till a wolf. “I take it you’re training went well?”

"Well, I’m still Cole. Unless you particularly wanted to call me Reynolds.” Cole joked with a half smile. Cole nodded. “It feels like a lifetime, although, I don’t think it’s quite been that long,” He said with a small chuckle. It was easy to joke around with Pratt just like they had when they were kids, but there was a small awkwardness to it. An elephant in the room. The two were slowly starting to discuss the elephant but it was clear to Cole but both of them weren’t quite sure about fully acknowledging the elephant’s existence. Cole nodded once more. “Things have indeed changed.” He said, thinking of everything that had happened, with Jenna and his parents. He cocked an eyebrow curiously, wondering what had happened to Pratt to make things change for him but didn’t ask. If Pratt wanted to tell him he would. “There were no disputes amongst the pack about me taking over from my father, they all trust that I’ll be a good alpha. So, yes, I believe it was. I don’t think it could have ever fully prepared me, though.” Despite acting as alpha for a few years now officially being alpha was still something Cole hadn’t quite wrapped his head around. “Was your training as bad as you thought it would be?” He enquired.

Misery Loves Company | Cole & Alexa

“Cole. If we’re going to work together, no more petty bullshit. It goes both ways.” She said as she crossed her arms. Her dad’s death had been particularly hard on her that day and she wasn’t in the mood for bickering. “I was working on it before we made alliances. I know more about the original council than you do. I am just laying the groundwork. Don’t worry. You’ll be included later and I will update you as much as possible.” Her eyes narrowed slightly. “I can respect that as long as you don’t try to undermine me by going out of your way to steal members of my pack.” There was a difference between accepting wolves that are now lone wolves and purposefully trying to steal pack members from other packs. “Neither of us will truly be happy. It’s about compromising and I will have your back unless you prove to me that you don’t deserve it. It’ll be interesting working with you, Mr. Reynolds. I am sorry for your loss and if you need something, let me know.”

Cole could have said more, but what else was there to say? Everything that Alexa had said Cole agreed with or already knew. The only reason he was being a bit of an arse was because of his grief. If he had been his usual self he would probably have been rather sorry for a lot of his words. Right now he just didn’t care. He still wasn’t happy about the council, but he also knew there was no point arguing it. Cole couldn’t do anything about it right now, and if he wanted this alliance to go ahead he’d just have to accept it...for now. “I don’t believe there’s anything else to say.” He said simply. “Everything that needs to be said has been said and we have come to a mutual agreement.” Cole paused. “We should probably meet again soon to make the things we’ve discussed more official, a contract of some kind. Unless there’s anything else you think needs to be discussed now I’ll take my leave.”

A stranger might look and Cole and see an angry man, but Jenna didn’t. She simply knew better. He had his moments of anger, sure. But the angrier he seemed, the less he felt. Being with someone this long, she could see the hurt radiating off him in waves. She felt a moment of pity, but quickly squashed the feeling. Cole wouldn’t want her pity, or anyone else’s. Honestly, she wasn’t sure if he wanted anything from her anymore, and most of the time she was too afraid to ask. There were so many times she just wanted to pack up and leave, see how long it’d take him to notice. A lone tear fell down her face, and she moved quickly to wipe it away. Maybe that distant future wasn’t so far off. “I see. At least it’s something.” Her voice was thick, unable to say anything more. With Cole, less was usually more.

Cole nodded slowly at her answer. He was perfectly aware that this was distraction talk for the both of them. If they talked about things like the pack it meant the other conversations wouldn’t come up. Conversations revolving his father, other deaths, other losses and the fact that things weren’t the same between them anymore. That things had changed and they had grown apart. All conversations Cole wanted to avoid. For now, it was easier to ignore such things, even if the long term it would only make things worse. He glanced at Jenna briefly with a slightly frown, trying to figure out what she was thinking. There was a time when she could read her like a book, partly because they used to be so open with each other, but it was no longer so easy. Cole reverted his attention back to the glass in his hands. “I’ll start making the arrangements soon, to start moving the pack here.”

Family Reunion | Cole & Esme

Cole didn’t usually spend so much time at home, his jobs as a detective and as a future alpha keeping him busy. Now things had changed with the death of his father. Cole was on personal leave from his human job and now as alpha, a lot of his work was being done from home, such as organising his packs move to the city. Something that would be happening very soon. He was going over some information that Alexa had given him when he heard a knock at the door.  Cole was a little surprised, not expecting anyone. Jenna was out and Cole knew she had taken her keys and no one else knew he was home. Putting down the pieces of paper Cole made his way to the front door, catching a familiar scent as he got closer. It couldn’t be, though... Cole opened the door and was surprised to find his younger sister standing in front of him. “Esme!? What on Earth are you doing here? Why aren’t you in Ohio?” Cole asked, his shock momentarily taking precedence over how good it was to see her.

Diana’s eyebrows furrowed, “what do you mean?” She wanted to ask why, but she had just met him and prying into his life probably wasn’t the best way for her to make friends. “I’m Diana, by the way.”

“Which part are you questioning?” Cole asked. “I have a high tolerance to alcohol and I’m here to drown my sorrows.” He said, answering both possibilities. Cole raised an eyebrow, not exactly in the mood to make acquaintances but eventually replied with a gruff, “Cole.”

“I,” Joshua began, looking down at his before shrugging greatly. “Probably, yea. But whatever.”

“I know you’re a werewolf and all, but it’s not too bad is it? If it is it won’t heal straight away.”

“It is not going to make you feel happier now. But neither will alcohol. Alcohol will only end up making you feel worse. You should try doing something to distract yourself from whatever it is plaguing you rather than trying to drown it out.”

“I’ll have plenty of things to distract myself in the coming days, none of which will make me feel any happier. Right now I am choosing to drink because I wish to drown my grief in its numbness. At least for today.”

“You’re getting up there, give it a few more years. Practice looking sad.”

“I’d like to think that I have longer than a few years, but either way, I think I’ve got the sad look down.”

“Most packs,” Alaina agreed with a nod, leaning her chin on her hand. “And that’s what you want to do, come in and take over?” She smirked slightly, tilting her head, but there wasn’t any judgement in her voice more open curiosity. “You’re…well at least you seem more ‘alpha’ than Alexa. She’s nice, but,” Alaina shrugged.

Cole shrugged before nodding. “I suppose that is pretty much exactly what I’m doing, yes. It’s not always an alpha from another pack, though. More often than not it’s a young ambitious wolf who get the power they want in their current pack.” Cole explained. “She’s very young,” Cole commented simply. “And it’s a big pack.”
