They’re pretty and all, but Nicobar Pigeons are dumb as rocks. At my old work we had several of them free roaming in the rainforest pyramid, basically a ten story, several acre greenhouse filled with tropical plants and animals.

Multiple times I watched the nicobars slip and fall into one of the several small, shallow streams on the ground of the pyramid, then embarrassedly hop out and shake themselves off.

I don't even know how I am writing this. On October 16th 2005 this little guy wormed his way into to Lennys heart at a pet adoption event in Toms River. His name was Snoopy and he was a year old. I wanted a dog so bad that when this stinker chose Lenny, I didn't argue. We brought him home the same day. He has been with us for 11 years and has seen us at our very best and our absolute worst. He licked away tears and was the best cuddle buddy. Last night after going to the vet every week and seeing no improvement we brought him to the emergency room. They still could not figure out what was wrong. This morning we brought him back for am ultrasound only to get the call to come back and discuss options. Sam had prostate cancer. We made the hardest decision and put Samson to sleep. I sang him the song I always sing to him. He held him close and said our goodbyes as he slipped peacefully and painlessly away. We are beside ourselves with grief. We had looked forward to Sam being a big brother and being with us on our adoption journey as he had been with us for so many other ones. Now comes the task of cleaning up and giving away his things, trying to get through everyday life without his constant companionship. Who will lick away my tears and give me cuddles when I so overwhelmed? Who will lick the shower water off my feet and eat the food that falls to the floor. Having a pet is not an easy task. You go into it knowing that there will come a time to make the hardest decisions. We did right by our Samson. He was loved and his life well lived. I know my grandfather was there to walk him over. Now his is up there with Renny and Shadow, running circles in the sun. Don't ever think for one single second that I didn't love you Sam. I know that you loved us unconditionally and we don't know why you chose two crazy, anxiety riddled people to love, but you did.
