I wasn’t lying when I said that Spring 2015 will be my hardest semester by far, and it was. I’m not an ecology fan and I didn’t expect Evolution to be as hard as it was. I also switched out from Epigenetics to Human Genetics. Which by far was my hardest class of the semester. Or in history of all my classes, EVER. IT WAS HARD. For me at least, I guess it was because I was juggling other hard classes (in my opinion).
Ecology was hard for me because the lecture material was dry AF. I heard the Fall semester professor is actually way better. Like COOL, I don’t have another semester so it wasn’t like I could drop the class and focus on my other courses. The exams were REALLY tough for me because you had to be VERY specific with your answer. You could have the right answer, but if it wasn’t of the right specificity, you will lose some or all points.
Evolution was hard only because the exams were hard. The material itself was not hard, but the exams were. The short answer portion was not as difficult, it was the multiple choice that would completely mess me up! I think each question was like 4 points each so yeah. I miss 10, and that’s 40 points missed. Granted the exams were out of like 150 or so points. But yeah, the multiple choice made the exams harder >.>
Human Genetics was hard only because of the heavy lecture material, and I am not a Molecular Biology and Genetics major. I’m strictly a biology major, and I have never needed to learn as heavy Genetics before, even when I took a general Genetics course. Thankfully the class is already set on a curve (you only need a 45 to pass with a D) or else this could’ve gotten really ugly, really quick.
Biochemistry wasn’t that bad. I was able to really understand the material this time around because he had narrated lecture slides instead of those videos he had last summer. It was actually way more enjoyable with the narrated slides. I would refer to the study guide he had along with the slides, and it made studying fun. I messed up on the 2nd exam real bad. That Metabolism section was the WORST. After the first exam, I was on track for a possible B-, but after failing the 2nd exam, that was out of reach. I got an 81 on the last exam which got me a C in the course. I’m happy with it. I would get the worst anxiety before each exam since there were approximately 25 questions per exam, and each question was worth 4 points. I definitely could have gotten a higher grade on my last exam, if not a 100 if I had read the question/choices a little better and stuck with my gut instincts.
Psychology of Women was my favorite course and was the only course I attended all the time. I pulled out an A-. Had I studied harder for exams 2 and 3, I could have easily gotten an A. But I didn’t. I only really studied for exams 1, 4, and 5.
I definitely could have done way better in Ecology and Evolution had I gone to lecture more often. Or just go. I think I hadn’t attended lecture in well over a month or 2 because I would have to do other things for other classes and such or because I was lazy. Oh well, I have many things I want to do during my off season and that includes cleaning up some courses at LCC. Even take CNA courses and get a job. I still have many goals to accomplish during my time off, and I hope to make the most of it! Here’s to graduation and bettering myself so that I have a chance in graduate school.
