I was raised a typical boy
I was raised a typical boy
Told not to feel
And all that left me was angry.
It's taken me years to heal and I'm still not really there
But you don't have to care
I was raised a typical both with a mother who was far more masculine
Who had too many of her own problems for me to have mine
Im not bitter
I survived her and her meth habit
But I almost didn't survive being raised a typical boy.
The lack of showing emotions and the need to hide weakness left me more thab a little expised when I started questioning gender
Left me more than a little exposed as I tried to open up
Don't talk about your problems
They are your burden and nobody else's
Man did that concept put a burden on my marriage
And it's not like a marriage doesn't have enough things to struggle through without not talking about or dealing with issues
I'm not sure that a typical boy is really meant for today's society.
But despite being raised a typical boy
I am not that
While I still struggle to overcome childhood conditionings
I don't see myself as a boy or a man - that boys are supposed to grow into.
What a fucking word to put on a person
Supposed
Like people are supposed to do anything
But that's deviating from the point I was trying to make
I am not man
I am not woman
I am me.
And sometimes I hope that's enough...
After being raised a typical boy.
Thanks for reading.
I started writing this after I went to a queer and trans open mic and it really pulled some feelings out of my core and I thought about some things in me that were hard to deal with.
