Home practice
I'm discovering some really interesting things lately, mostly because I started a home practice for my yoga. I'm an avid yogi, and even during my worst drinking/eating/party days I have managed at least one or two classes (sometimes much more) a week for over two years now. Didn't always counteract some bd habits, but I think it kept me sane. I've decided to concentrate on two things: running and yoga. May not be the fullest way to weight loss but I enjoy both of them for the most part. Anyway I'm back up to four or so 90 min classes a week and I've been feeling the benefits in my attitude and fitness, so I've added home practice to that as well. I don't practice long, maybe 45 minutes, but I take that time to really listen. I ask myself what my body needs, why it needs it, and what I can do to make it stronger. The best thing is that the more I do this, the more I realize that it's not about the hard moments that bring me clarity. Even though I'm sweating, the peace comes at the end or in between vinyasas when I'm gentle with myself and just. Fucking. Breathe. Sometimes I just need to chill. Find what helps, then just chill.
The function of prayer is not to influence God, but rather to change the nature of the one who prays.”
Søren Kierkegaard (via monpetitsoulier)
This was my run today...all the way down to Prospect Park, to the Picnic House and back. I was shocked at two things when I looked down: that I hadn't gotten to 5 miles just yet and that I had kept such a fast pace (for me) on a long run. Despite my allergies I really enjoyed this. Prospect Park is a beautiful run, at 8am it's full of dogs and their Brooklynites wandering around. :) I'll take pics next week.
Chorizo and shrimp skillet
Sweet potato pancakes made from last night's mashed sweet potatoes, with sautéed greens, tomatoes and a poached egg!
You've got to practice it.
Just a thought hat occurred to me tonight. All the reading, all the prep, all the constant nagging we do. It means nothing if you don't move on with your fucking life and practice it. So forget staring at pictures and counting your calories and exercise and planning your workouts and reading on meditating and constantly analyzing yourself. Trust yourself to know what's best. Clean, healthy, practice. That is what taking care of yourself is.
Dairy and gluten and grain free cupcakes at Hu Kitchen in NYC. So fucking excited, especially after blood test this morning.
Sunday breakfast...two slices of bacon and a somewhat ugly looking avocado toad-in-a-hole. Really delicious!
