FHR: Apple Music vs Spotify
I’ll admit to anyone that Spotify and music are two huge things that I use every day without fail. My Spotify has a huge mix of playlists depending on how I’m feeling, what I’m working on and so on.
With the release of Apple Music at WWDC ‘15 early in June, it was about time that Apple got into the streaming music service scene. Although my first impressions of the service weren’t the best.
I thought at first it was really confusing, I still struggle to understand how to make playlists on my Mac. It’s pretty straightforward on my iPad & iPhone, but it seems very confusing on my Mac. Excuse me while I whip out my PhD in iTunes to understand this one.
I’m also very disappointed with the fact there’s no straightforward way to transfer over my playlists from Spotify, and until the service wins me over I don’t see me cancelling my Sunday afternoon plans to transfer my playlists.
Although the service isn’t all that bad, there are some thing I found pretty impressive!
I ADORE just how much work Apple has put into it’s ‘A-List’ playlists, as someone who loves new music. There’s something euphoric about putting your headphones on and just listening to some music.
The selection of playlists made to suit the choices I put in when I initially set the app up are also pretty snazzy. It prompts me to listening to the songs that have gotten lost in the 18k songs I’ve got stored on my iTunes. Everyone loves listening to that cheesy song you bought one night when you had a little too much to drink. #whatdoesthefoxsay
Oh, and the fact you can also play music videos directly inside of the app too. Yeah that’s pretty snazzy!
Although, without wanting to end on a low point - I do find Spotify faster. I can click on a song… And it plays? With Apple Music there’s a significant delay.
Using the service religiously at present. I do expect it to get even better. Although I do have to mention that Apple Music Connect is clearly just Apple chancing their hands to relaunch iTunes Ping. RIP.
Oh yeah… And Beats 1 is pretty terrible. They were playing Jungle at 9am this morning. That’s just not okay.
