Additionally:
THE GOOD NEWS: I survived my hell semester of grad school and got excellent final grades!
THE BAD NEWS: School I work at starts back next Monday, so I am going to be SWAMPED with clueless freshmen for at least a month (it’s OK; we’ve all been them).
TL;DR posts on here will be few and far between for a bit.
Bought this sticker tonight in hopes of being able to give it to Con at a con (ha ha) someday. It just reminded me a lot of the stuff he says and it gives me hope.
(Also it says dogs instead of cats, so I obviously can’t keep it for myself!)
It’s here!!!
I knew I wouldn’t be able to make it to Supercon (and Lord knows if Con is ever going to come to Dragon Con), so I was thrilled when I saw they were selling convention pre-order autographs. Mine arrived last week and it just further reinforces what a mensch Mr. O’Neill is.
Why? The only personalization you could order was your name and/or a very short character quote. I shelled out the $10 for my name expecting just that: my name and a signature. Instead, that man took the time to write “with love” as well, and I bet he did on ALL of them.
It was just so unexpected and thoughtful and kind - a simple, small gesture that was very much appreciated. ❤️
So I was TRYING to just sort through/re-label the Con O'Neill filmography files I already had, but I was stopped dead in my tracks by this Ordinary Lies sad puppy face.
So...how's your Friday night?
In case you can't get enough of Con's "laidback luxuriously smoky and husky tone."
Also: that Dove for Men radio ad is...something else.
IMDB: The Riff Raff Element (1993)
Working on a MASSIVE Con O’Neill filmography list so I can track down as much as possible, but in the meantime please enjoy IMDB stills of works I don’t think an American with limited means like myself will be able to locate.
First up: Episodes 1 and 3 of The Riff Raff Element!
UPDATE: Some kind soul [EDIT: @gydima, bless you] has put up Con’s clips on YouTube!
(Also, on a personal note: I’m still not dead, just completely burnt out by my summer grad school classes. Don’t want to make any promises, but hoping to be more active on here come August.)
Take 2!
No real post right now, but I did just download a browser add on so I could screencap protected videos. Which means you can all look forward to
in
hopefully very soon.
[insert clever title here]
So!
1. I got married/honeymooned.
2. Barely a month later my husband broke his leg and I had to play caregiver for two months until he was semi-mobile.
3. Grad school started again.
I’m sure whatever audience I had before all this has probably gone, but I’ve acquired a lot of Con O’Neill performances, and I’ll be DAMNED if I let them go to waste (also the man is just a pleasure to watch).
Posts will be sporadic, but to quote Monty Python and the Holy Grail,
More from Inside the Molly House: The National Theatre at Work
Finally was able to scan the remaining Con mentions from this book!
Prick Up Your Ears (2009)
While searching for the Mother Clap’s Molly House photo in the last post I ran across a 2009 article about Con replacing a departing Matt Lucas in a play version of Prick Up Your Ears (which I only knew as a 1987 film staring Gary Oldman and Alfred Molina that I always meant to watch but never quite got around to).
So if you’ve ever wondered what a bald and creepy Con O’Neill would look like, feast your eyes on these!
Unfortunately, Con was not enough to save the show. According to Wikipedia he took over the role October 23rd and the show closed November 15th. Producers cited poor box office sales “despite very good feedback and notices for Con O'Neill's performance.”
Can’t win ‘em all!
It’s been a good Sunday morning.
Mother Clap’s Molly House (2001)
So we’ve all drooled over seen this photo, yes?
Well again thanks to interlibrary loan, I’ve managed to get a book about the play’s production entitled Inside the Molly House: The National Theatre at Work by Jonathan Croall. It just came in for me today, so I’ve only skimmed it, but please enjoy the little bit of Con content I’ve found and scanned.
Sorry I haven’t been as active on here as I’d hoped! First two semesters of grad school are done, and I’m taking the fall semester off...but I also have my wedding coming up in a month and a half (yikes!). Hopefully after THAT I can get on some sort of regular posting/enjoying Con content schedule.
In the meantime:
Blood Brothers: A Brief Interlude
So I can’t actually afford this Blood Brothers souvenir program on eBay, but at least I can enjoy Con’s supremely 80s hair.
Especially since someone posted an alternate (and larger) version of that pic on his Twitter back in 2019!
A Tribute to the Blues Brothers (1991)
I had hoped to write more on here while at the Mayo Clinic for my father’s surgery, but turns out that lengthy travel plus concern about your elderly parent’s health really takes it out of you mentally and physically. Who knew?
SO. I am taking a shortcut and presenting without commentary a complete scan of the brief liner notes from the 1991 Original Cast Recording of...
(Obtained via interlibrary loan! Support your local libraries, y’all!)
So I was looking for a photo to use as an icon on here and found this.
No…no thank you.
Oh, wait. I can also get a mini Con O’Neill for my desk at work? Well, why didn’t you say so!
New desktop friend has arrived.
