I cannot get over Singha’s little utterance of shyness in the form of breathing out when Thup gets close to him and he moves away! Like, what?!
you guys don't get it, khachen is a fudanshi. he makes charn jealous on purpose because he knows he likes jett and he wants to help his little mentee. he tries to (unsuccessfully) make pharan jealous. he makes khem sit on pharan's lap the whole ride. he did all these things with a smug smirk and a lil snicker because he's a shipper! he's one of us
I am in genuine adoration of the tonal transitions in this episode. seriously, I waited for a week with ep 10 in mind, khem had just gotten some semblance of hope to keep going with no aim to it. rampheung was at her peak and we only had a weapon that could break us in the process as well. I was waiting for the penultimate emotional breakdown except it wasn't just that. cue them being unpredictable asf cause we started with this:
motorbike gang bromance au. i adore the beginning, love the way i was hollering. the gradual shift towards-
yeah, no shit.
it really created a great foundation for an emotionally well balanced episode: smthg that could let the characters breathe a bit and i love that it came with kachen shit stirring left, right and centre.
and then we fall into line with khem's still ongoing emotional turmoil and his contemplation on biding goodbye.
he doesn't look uper convinced but he's there for the people who want him to be there. he'll stay for them and go with the plan for them. peemkhem looking at grandma si's potrait and hugging each other through the turmoil they're facing. BRILLIANT. my heart, dead.
kachen is with them through it all. he's gonna be a little shit about it but he's in it for the ride and die.
setting the pace and plan in action was fine. it's after this that they took my emotions on a rollercoaster.
fooling me into believing that jet was faking to be khem all along?
that's CHARN. he cannot give them away, chayada wouldn't and neither would he!! c'mon damn.
only to realize that it was a trap all along? and peemkhem were actually fleeing while having a moment (omfg eeeee) in addition to their obvious faith yet care for charnjet's safety?
cause help me god, i am.
the dajin and charnjet storyline was so well done with beautiful parallels especially since they were in the world that jin had always dreamt about; except the one she wanted to be with was refusing to get up.
whilst peemkhem fighting an absolutely gaunt and tired rampheung
except it's 12 am and she drops this technicality bomb
cheater.
seriously this ep formed itself mostly on catching you off guard. ofcourse it did, ofcourse it wasn't just angst. ofcourse it went against what i was preparing for only to end up being this confused mess cause hey, they made me laugh- so damn much. and then they gave me these beautiful, sweet moments, a heart wrenching soulmate story ft doomed yuri and immense hope at the strike of 12. and then what? they took it all away? just like that?
fucking hell.
Still processing a lot about today's Khemjira, but it did strike me, as I've read both in the tags here and in other places, that there is so much judgment that immediately gets brought in. So many people judging Ramphueng for her curse being too much, and quite a few people judging Khem for leaving Peem. There's a lot of shoulds and shouldn't haves in people's thoughts.
And I'm not saying it's not an understandable reaction, people are protective of both Khem and Peem, and are struggling with their suffering.
But I think it's important to not miss that this story is not a story about judgment. It's a story about compassion.
Compassion is such an important theme to Khemjira.
Khem himself is an incredibly compassionate person; Peem is often more strict due to his authority, but the compassion is there.
Even Ramphueng, who is caught in an existence of pure pain and rage, has enough compassion within her to stop a mother from experiencing the grief of losing her child in a moment of mental health crisis.
But you want to know what this series is truly telling us about compassion?
Watch Charn.
I'm especially fascinated with Charn as the avatar of compassion within this series. He's not just there as Jet's love interest - he is the most purely compassionate person in the series. Khem is haunted by the awareness of his mortality, Peem driven by his work as a shaman, Jet is often the least naturally compassionate, but is affected by love, such as his friendship with Khem.
But it is Charn - Charn who went on a random school trip, and stayed behind with two friends he had just met. Charn who, while Khem and Jet were talking about Rae being abused, took action and went directly to Chai to ask him to address it with Worn. Charn being told he's the one who can navigate the woods at night and not hesitating to do so to save another. Charn who committed himself to a spiritual path for the only purpose of saving Khem. Charn who runs back to shield Jet from a swarm of spiritual hornets. Charn who senses when Khem is in danger from miles away. Charn who despite being overwhelmed with love and desire for Jet always places Jet's needs before his own.
I promise you Charn is not going to judge Khem, and I don't think he's going to judge Ramphueng either.
Because judgment is never going to be the thing to save us. It's compassion.
all the side characters did so well this episode especially the actresses for Ramphueng and the first wife holy shit did they eat down
So... Khemjira. Episode 9. Everyone okay?
When Jet’s sight was returned Charn commented that he knew they (the twins) must be adorable because of how Jet was laughing
What must he think now that he’s hearing Jet sob
