Shadows play with the silent. —
Guess who’s my favorite Overwatch character? Deadly Sniper Grandma!! Ana gives me a fresh gust of air both because of her design and for the fact that I freaking love sniper-characters. Add on top of that a pretty interesting backstory and I couldn’t help but fall in love with this sweet old (deadly) lady.
Still trying to figure out Thans dragon form. As of right now, the wolfish serpent(lung) seems like an appropriate choice. — There are several subclasses of dragons. Than belongs in the flying serpent class. A small dragon able to take flight without the use of wings. His kind is rather lithe and excel more with the likes of magic and science than with strength and athleticism(though nothing to take lightly in a fight, as they probably can, and will, blast you to kingdom come). They rely on indirect confrontation rather than the heat of the battle.
Dragons do not have last names. They gain titles as they grow and earn status among their people. Than earned his more than rude title as a young dragon, after all pigments in his scales and feathers vanished. Making him a dull black and grey. Most dragons has both over and under-colors creating unique patterns.
Though the title was mentioned as a jest by the younglings, Than grew into the title with pride. Even in his adult years he added the old title along with his new one. Than, the grey keeper.
Than looks just as grumpy in this form as he does in his human one. Seems like that sneer is permanently plastered to his face.
Wips of Kadi the gunslinger (+ bonus Cainan). — These are some sketches I’m not sure when or if I’ll finish. But I don’t loathe them so might as well try posting them until I decide what to do. I imagine Cainan becoming quite the father-figure once these two meet. He’s pretty different from her own father, but they both get along pretty well after the initial task putting them on the same team. Cainan finally has someone to drink with while Than can happily slink back to whatever scripture or spell he’s working on. A friend asked me once if her flirty nature ever could come between Than and Cainan. Honestly I think rather than seeing her as a threat, they’d adopt her. She’s young, rash and prone to unwise decisions. Probably giving Than massive headaches while Cainan humors himself by watching the chaos ensue. They’re too old to care about the threat of rivaling mates, neither of them really afraid the other will betray them. Kadi is, in their eyes, still a child(or young adult).
Character study of Kadi aufLiam, child of beast. The hybrid fae.
—
I’m sorry if her title seems a bit edgy, but in the story that’s basically what she is. Her father is of the fae and something commonly known as beastkin. So, as she’s with mixed blood she’d be called something akin to ‘child of beast’ rather than bastard or halfblood(both equally insulting to her and her kin). The title means the father/mother never disowned or abandoned the child, even with it’s impure blood.
Though she and Liam had a rough start in their relationship; him not realizing he had a kid until she already was four or five years old, he took the responsibility once he did without question. After the initial shock of meeting one another they slowly realized she had inherited most traits from her father, both physically and mentally. Good and bad…
Kadi is, with lack of a better word, a wild card. Young, confident and an insufferable flirt, pretty much like her dad. Though, where he has had a lifetime of calming down and settle into his place in the world, Kadi is still trying to find hers.
When not traveling with her father, Kadi spends most of her days as a tracker/hunter near the stretch of mountains splitting Fendell, the ruthless continent neighboring Dalin and Amastus. It’s a beautiful, but rough landscape littered with plains and thick forests. The main city, Hollowstone, sticks out from one of the mountains, creating a fortress-like stone structure. People of all races intermingle there in a chaotic mess of politics and culture, creating perhaps one of the most diverse cities in comparison to the other two continents.
Kadi prefers the smaller villages and towns, but occasionally ventures into the bigger city in search of better jobs. Most of the mercenary guilds set base only in large cities and her skills can in many cases be found useful when a tracker is needed. That, and there’s brothels there for cold or lonely nights.
She’s also the designated tracker Than makes contact with for a particularly tricky contract.
Face study of Than and his various moods. (Grumpy/normal - challenging/taunting - bored/indifferent - bashful/shy/smiling)
Grumpy and prone to ignore people he finds uninteresting or annoying. Which is at most times everyone.
His insensitivity and outright rude nature could have something to do with his defensive caution near unfamiliar territory. All in all a product of his insecurity and mistrust of others.
Than needs gear as well. —
This one is not the final product, as it’s heavily inspired by one of the outfits from Skyrim.
Than might look borderline posh, but is everything but. All his clothes has rips and tears. New garments usually never lasts long in the alchemist-dragons hands. To Morrins and Cainans big frustration, neither does their clothes as Than frequently uses what he has available as rags or such in his experiments.
Morrin has made it her mission to make Than look presentable in most occasions. Her first task would be to have him stop cutting his own hair when it becomes annoying. There are barbers in the world for a reason.
Sketches of Cainans uniform. — I’m still not completely happy with it. The sentinels uniform is supposed to be simple. Partly for efficiency, the other for the simple fact that the settlement has little resources to go around. Nemeans would, in most cases, be sturdy enough to do without any heavy equipment. Close combat nemeans seldom have more than a shoulder-protector, a chain-mail or gambeson, and a tunic with the guards colours or emblem. I want to rearrange some of the details to better fit an archers movements. Perhaps there will be several minor differences between the different roles in the guard. Cainan function both as an archer and a foot-soldier, switching between whenever its needed.
Some quick sketching of the two knuckleheads in love. Too soothe my heart-burn and take a break from writing miserable scenes. — Memories of flight became much darker than I first imagined. *cries and goes back to writing*
STORY TIME:
I work in a decent sized, local, indie bookstore. It’s a great job 99% of the time and a lot of our customers are pretty neat people. Any who, middle of the day this little old lady comes up. She’s lovably kooky. She effuses how much she loves the store and how she wishes she could spend more time in it but her husband is waiting in the car (OH! I BETTER BUY HIM SOME CHOCOLATE!), she piles a bunch of art supplies on the counter and then stops and tells me how my bangs are beautiful and remind her of the ocean (“Wooooosh” she says, making a wave gesture with her hand)
Ok. I think to myself. Awesomely happy, weird little old ladies are my favorite kind of customer. They’re thrilled about everything and they’re comfortably bananas. I can have a good time with this one. So we chat and it’s nice.
Then this kid, who’s been up my counter a few times to gather his school textbooks, comes up in line behind her (we’re connected to a major university in the city so we have a lot of harried students pass through). She turns around to him and, out of nowhere, demands that he put his textbooks on the counter. He’s confused but she explains that she’s going to buy his textbooks.
He goes sheetrock white. He refuses and adamantly insists that she can’t do that. It’s like, $400 worth of textbooks. She, this tiny old woman, bodily takes them out of her hands, throws them on the counter and turns to me with a intense stare and tells me to put them on her bill. The kid at this point is practically in tears. He’s confused and shocked and grateful. Then she turns to him and says “you need chocolate.” She starts grabbing handfuls of chocolates and putting them in her pile.
He keeps asking her “why are you doing this?” She responds “Do you like Harry Potter?“ and throws a copy of the new Cursed Child on the pile too.
Finally she’s done and I ring her up for a crazy amount of money. She pays and asks me to please give the kid a few bags for his stuff. While I’m bagging up her merchandise the kid hugs her. We’re both telling her how amazing she is and what an awesome thing she’s done. She turns to both of us and says probably one of the most profound, unscripted things I’ve ever had someone say:
“It’s important to be kind. You can’t know all the times that you’ve hurt people in tiny, significant ways. It’s easy to be cruel without meaning to be. There’s nothing you can do about that. But you can choose to be kind. Be kind.”
The kid thanks her again and leaves. I tell her again how awesome she is. She’s staring out the door after him and says to me: “My son is a homeless meth addict. I don’t know what I did. I see that boy and I see the man my son could have been if someone had chosen to be kind to him at just the right time.”
I’ve bagged up all her stuff and at this point am super awkward and feel like I should say something but I don’t know what. Then she turns to me and says: I wish I could have bangs like that but my darn hair is just too curly.“ And leaves.
And that is the story of the best customer I’ve ever had. Be kind to somebody today.
Honestly I truly do aspire to be that old woman, and I work towards it each day that I can.
Than and his pipe. The unceasingly tense and crass alchemist-dragon.
Aga, the Captain. — Aga is a human in his late fifties, and Cainans late-night whiskey friend and boss. Heavily inspired by Mads Mikkelsens appearance, actually a tad too much. I’m probably gonna try to redraw him at a later date to make him look at least a little bit more different. References used(obviously)
Cainan, the sentinel.
–
Gold would, in most cases, be considered a warm colour. But the way Cainans stare traveled over Than gave him nothing but cold chills. The guard did not trust him, and Than could to some extent, understand. Strangers weren’t uncommon in this place, but people like himself were.
Than shrugged his shoulder, forcing himself to relax. While readying his pipe with the driest leaves of tobacco he’d ever experienced, he began to talk.
“So… does this arrangement give you permission to speak? Or will I have to endure this… companionable silence for the extent of my stay here?” Than smirked jokingly over at the nemean sitting in his chair, arm leaned on his jaw. He said nothing, of course. This language-barrier would prove to become quite the challenge, as things stood.
Than began lighting his pipe, settled neatly between his teeth, steadily puffing the tiny ember to life. Ashen smoke swirled around his face and fingers. The taste was mediocre at best, but it would do until he could get his hands on a peddler from across the continent. Nothing could compete against Tarrins tobacco.
Looking back to the blonde nemean guarding him, for the time being, Than let out a slow stream of smoke. The nemean lifted his eyebrows, silent question on his face.
“Yes, I’m talking to you. I’m bored.” He sneered, feeling a pout forming on his face. The bruise ached with a tender pulse at the movement.
The nemean replied at that, not a question, but a statement. Deep tones of an accent entirely unknown to Than. Than had no idea what he said of course, but caught the gist of its meaning when the man nodded towards his pipe. Frown apparent on his face.
“Unhealthy or not, I enjoy it.” Than grimaced, lifting the instrument purposefully towards his mouth. He turned his face toward the window, taking in the dusty streets below them. Humans, fae and beasts mingling together. Flittering about, busy trying to get to wherever their day led them.
The nemean let out a snort, or a stifled laugh. Than smiled to himself. At least the man could be joked with. It was good to know not all nemeans shared his last guards personal traits. He rested a shoulder against the splintered edge of the window.
Dusk approached. No more words were spoken that day. They both sat in silence, strangers sharing the momentary peace.
— Cainan study. And oh god colors… I’ve a lot to learn. There’s so many types of blonde out there! Our boy here’s cursed with trickles of ginger~ Hm… and he’s supposed to be more tan than this, but oh well.
Harem pants! And an actual size reference at the same time. Kadi is not impressed.
This is actually one of the above characters traditional garments(cultural), can you guess who’s? The attire is usually worn simple, like above, or with decorated jewelry(made with personalized stones and gems fitting the color of of its wearer). The top is usually absent or a loosely fitted draping of some sort. Also matching the colors of the person.
— References has been used, I’ve no idea how harem pants works. You can literary find them on the first google search of “harem pants”
