Kai Smith has been your loyal, hotheaded boyfriend for almost two years. What you two had was raw. A relationship that started off as seat partners gradually shifted towards a loving and committed relationship. It something you developed throughout high school, a slow process that rewarded you both in the end.
Your relationship with Kai started off like a classic love story. You two met in some math class, algebra probably, in freshman year. You two sat together throughout the class mainly because neither of you understood anything. Thankfully, his friend Zane helped you both out with extensive tutoring every week. It was worth the extra time spent since you and Kai passed the class for the semester, all thanks to Zane. Eventually as you grew closer to the two you met their other close friends.
Kai introduced you to Cole during one of your study sessions with Zane in the library. You were seated beside Kai as Zane sat across from you with the new guy beside him. When you first met him, Cole gave off a "cool guy" aura to you. He had headphones on, a boombox at his feet, and rocked a AC/DC shirt.
"Oh {Name}, this is Cole by the way. He's our friend so don't mind him." Kai introduced you as you sat down. Cole waved at you politely before leaning back in his seat. "I won't get in the way of your study session. I'm honestly here to see if Kai actually pays attention."
"Kai has shown much improvement in his quizzes thanks to the sessions I provide."
"You're an angel, Zane. You actually proved that Kai has the ability to think of something else besides his hair." You're friendly jab at your friend earned a laugh from Cole as Kai looked at you in betrayal. From that moment on, you and Cole became good friends after that. You two actually realized you had history together the next day. What a small world.
From there, you met everyone else throughout the year. You met Nya during a science class you had together. She had instantly recognized you from her brother's description, he talked about you a lot apparently, so she asked you to be her partner. You had agreed because everyone in the class seemed to avoid you two. Nya made the boring labs so much fun. You remember clutching your stomach from laughter then retaining any information related to the subject. You two quickly became friends and soon introduced you to Jay.
He was the quiet type. Compared to the rest, he was more reserved then most. He had a talent for technical stuff and was apart of the robotics team alongside Nya. It took a while for him to warm up to you because he seemed cautious, like you'd suddenly turn against their friend group. Nya and Kai were the ones to try and convince him you weren't like that. You weren't like the rest.
"Say that all you want. We'll know what they're really like once they meet Lloyd." Jay had told them one day at their secret base. Kai had defended you throughout Jay's doubt, but he knew he wasn't wrong.
Lloyd Garmadon was the center of Ninjago High school drama and ridicule. People considered popular or losers would come together to torment Lloyd. It because his father was Lord Garmadon, the warlord who attacked the city. Of course, none of that mattered to you. Lloyd was a chill guy, not to mention an avid trading card collector like you. What you forgot to tell the others was that you and Lloyd were already friends.
You had met one weekend at a comic book store since you were in dire need of new trading cards. Lloyd had coincidentally been there for the same reason. You two had actually spent almost an hour going through each others collection. When you introduced yourself he had said his name and expected you to judge him for his heritage. Instead, you shook his hand and reassured him you didn't see him differently. He was a friend.
When Kai had spotted you and Lloyd in the library opening packs of trading cards, he watched you two from the side. For once, someone outside his regular group of friends didn't treat Lloyd like a monster. It was refreshing seeing Lloyd act like a normal teenager for once, something you were able to give him. He said nothing as he sat beside you, admiring the way your eyes lit up whenever you opened a card pack. Lloyd saw the look he gave you with a knowing smile.
The next day, Lloyd was walking with Kai towards school when he briefly mentioned you. "They're a great addition to the group. I see why you're fond of them."
Kai Smith was more then fond.
A year into the group, you settled in perfectly. During sophomore year, you actually helped Nya and Jay finally get together. You helped Jay get out of his shell more so he could ask Nya on a date, which ended up in Lord Garmadon surprise attacking the city. Besides that, the date went great. Jay started treating you like he'd known you forever. He was grateful you helped him get more comfortable in situations he used to be terrified of. It was also during this time you and Kai had grown closer to each other. From studying to hanging out at each other's house, you two became best friends. Eventually, as sophomore year grew go a close Lloyd tried to get you two together.
You learned later that you and Kai had both confided in your crushes for one another with him. There were so many times Lloyd wanted to blurt it out but Cole had suggested to let you two live in the moment. What ensued was months of "will they" or "won't they" that drove everyone crazy. The team called in for a meeting, to get Kai to ask you out officially.
Their plan was absolutely full proof. Kai would confess to you at the fair you all planned on going and you would say yes as Kai won you stuffed animals. But of course, there was always someone there to ruin a perfect day.
Lord Garmadon had shown up to the fair the same day the plan was put into motion. What's worse is that Lord Garmadon didn't even attack, he was there for the games and the rides. Everyone of course ran for their lives as Lloyd tried to reason with his father to go back to his island. "So it's a crime that a warlord wants to enjoy a nice Saturday at a fair? Seriously, grown up La-Lloyd?!"
"Dad not now…"
As Lloyd tried distracting his father, Kai turned to you. He explained how the day was supposed to be more romantic because he planned to officially ask you out. Kai handed you a red ring pop and got down on one knee. "{Name}, would you make the happiest guy in Ninjago City and go out with me?"
You laughed sweetly at his mock proposal, this was all too cute. "I'll gladly take your ring pop as a sign of my acceptance." He got up and slid the ring pop on your middle finger as you both shared a hug. Your friends cheered and even Lord Garmadon seemed sentimental, wiping his tears in Lloyd's hoodie much to the blonde's annoyance.
It was that very same day where he confessed to being the red ninja. You both sat in your room, living in the moment of being together when he had blurted it out. Sat on the bed, he looked nervous as you held in a laugh. "The red ninja? Right, and I'm the fairy godmother."
Kai scoffed, looking more offended than relieved you didn't believe him. "Is that so?" He held up his palm so flames could appear. You yelped, grabbing a cup from your nightstand to splash water over him to extinguish the flame. Kai couldn't help but burst out laughing as he explained that was his power, he could manipulate fire.
When you settled down, he conjured up another fire in his palm so you could play with it. His fire naturally followed your movements, like it recognized who you were. You steadily felt yourselves grow closer with his secret out, but he forgot one crucial rule he had.
No civilians could know their identities. Including you.
ঌ⋆˚࿔✧
You were running towards the bus station one Thursday evening. After spending the afternoon studying for trigonometry exam, you lost track of time in the library. It was a normal occurrence for you now, getting so concentrated on studying and losing track of time. You had to thank Zane for that since he had helped you develop studying skills that best fit your needs. He really was a super genius you glad you met all those years ago.
As you approached the bus stop, you got a message from your boyfriend.
Hothead❤️🔥 - Zane said you just left school. Are you okay?
Kai told you a while back that Zane had imported a tracking device on your phone per request. You didn't mind since it was for safety but it still surprised you how accurate that device was. You texted back as you sat on the bench while waiting for the bus.
You - Yeah. Busy studying but I'm heading home now.
You - Are you home yet?
Hothead❤️🔥 - I actually planned to meet you at your place. Bet I can get there before youuu
You - You're on. Loser has to make cookies for the winner
Hothead❤️🔥 - Deal. Can't wait for cookies
You chuckled while putting on your headphones as you got on the bus. The ride to your house wasn't far so you made it home quickly. When you arrived home, Kai was already there chatting with your mom without a care in the world.
"{Name}, honey. You never mentioned Kai was coming for dinner I would have made his favorite." You laughed as you set your stuff down and approached them. "He told me on my way here." Kai walked over to you to press a kiss on your temple. "Don't worry, Mrs. {L/n}. I'll eat anything you prepare." Your mom laughed as she ushered you both out of the kitchen while she finished up.
Your mom loved Kai, she thought he was a perfect match for you. She treated him like a son and welcomed him whenever he stopped by. Your dad was somewhat the same. At first, he was skeptical when you first introduced Kai. Your dad thought he was a bad influence but after some convincing from your mom, he gave Kai a chance. They bonded over their knowledge of forging since Kai's parents were respected Blacksmith's in the city. Now your father doesn't mind when he's around since he has someone to talk to about Blacksmithing.
As you sat on the couch with your boyfriend, his arm rested on the couch behind you. "You sure your parents are okay with you staying here this late?" He gently stroked your hair as he nodded. "Yeah. I asked for permission so you won't be getting any phone calls from my folks this time." You laughed as you leaned into him. The TV played a news broadcast about the Ninja squad in the background as you cuddled with your boyfriend. It was the same old story, reporters trying to figure out the ninja's secret identities. They were all completely off.
"Wait when Jay finds out who they think he is. These reporters say anything for views." Kai laughed as he pulled you closer to him. "It's better for us. The more far off they are the safer we get." You played with his hoodie strings as the news went on. You felt guilty about lying to your friends. You had to pretend you knew nothing about their secret when in reality, Kai told you everything. It felt like you were putting them in danger just by knowing. You shifted in your seat, sitting up. "That must make me a liability."
Kai sensed your hesitation and placed a hand on your cheek, turning your face towards him as he sat up with you. "Don't say that. We'll tell them I promise."
A small sigh escaped you. "When? We've been lying for months. It's not fair to them." Kai pressed his forehead against yours. "Then we'll come up with a game plan. A day where we can tell everyone at once." You nodded, his words relieving your worries. He pressed a quick kiss to your lips before getting up. "C'mon. Your mom is done with dinner."
"How do you-"
"I have other superpowers besides fire, babe." As if on cue, your mom appeared in the living room. "Dinners ready!" Kai gave you an I told you so look as as you rolled your eyes playfully and followed your mom towards the kitchen.
That evening, Kai had left with a bag of cookies and a plan to tell the others about your situation.
ঌ⋆˚࿔✧
"Kai cover their eyes!"
"It's okay everyone! I'll knock {Name} out and then we can gaslight them! Sounds good?"
"Okay nobody is knocking out my partner! Jay don't even think about it!"
"It's a precaution?!"
Kai's plan had ultimately failed the first time he tried it. A week ago, he got everyone together under the guise for a sleepover. It was the perfect plan until Lord Garmadon attacked again and everyone canceled because they were tired after the fight. Kai really had no other choice but to bring you to the base one day. He wasn't going to leave this off any longer.
Jay and Cole had initially freaked out. They thought Kai was completely crazy and tried to think of ideas to explain to you why they totally didn't have a secret ninja base. You had to be the one to break the news to them. "Guys calm down! Kai told me this was your base."
Jay scoffed. "Kai, seriously?! We had one rule!" You grinned at his words as Kai groaned. "Whatever grieves you have, take them out on me. They already know everything so I take full blame."
"Well of course we're blaming you!"
They eventually relaxed and welcomed you into the base. Nya had to calm Jay down which worked, but he was still mad at Kai for being reckless. Jay almost had a heart attack when you revealed you knew ever since the night Kai asked you to be his partner. Lloyd, being the wise leader he is, didn't seem all that angry. He only told Kai to be more careful with who he shares important information too. They were lucky you weren't some evil mastermind in disguise out to hurt them. You promised to keep their identities a secret and even let Zane scan you for dishonesty, he reveled himself as a robot which was so cool to you. When Zane confirmed you were telling the truth that seemed to do it for Lloyd.
"To be fair, I was going to suggest Kai should tell you about us being ninja. I guess he thought a head on that part." Kai was revealed he wasn't being executed for his slip up. It all worked well in the end.
After the interrogations, the ninja showed you around the base. It was as if this wasn't the top secret base for Ninjago's hero's but instead a regular spot to hangout, which technically it was. Everyone wanted to impress you with their gear and mechs so they showed you and made you pick out who was the best. Cole's mech was the winner since he could actually play music from it. Jay accused you of being biased since you and Cole had the same music taste. He knew that feature would boost his popularity score.
As the day went on, you settled in nicely into the environment that everyone quickly went about their day. Lloyd had challenged Jay to Mario Cart which was now the main event of the base with everyone crowed around the TV to watch. You found Kai on the couch and sat beside him, leaning your head on his shoulder. "Doing okay?"
He nodded as he kissed the top of your head. "Yeah. I'm happy everything turned out great. I really thought they was about to strangle me."
You laughed at that. "Jay was about too. But I think he understands now I wouldn't expose your secret." Kai nodded as he pulled you in closer, gently stroking your hair as you watched the racing showdown. It was nice knowing he had invited you into his world he thought he'd always have to separate you from. The base now felt complete when everyone was hanging out together.
You might not be able yell it from the rooftops, but knowing you could call him yours in the small circle you considered family was enough.
It was enough for you both.

"Your form is off. Again."
The group of ninja let out a series of groans at their teacher's instruction. "{Name}, can't we take a break or something? My back is killing me." Jay was always the first one who would complain during your harsh training sessions. You weren't trying to kill this group but they had gotten lazy. The elemental masters had gotten idle after months of no major crimes or threats to the city. To you, this was unacceptable. A true warrior was at the top of their game even when there isn't a threat of danger.
"A break? So, you're all confident enough to take me on a match right now?" The ninja winced at how firm your tone was. The last time they tried it, they all ended up with dark bruises that were still healing. They each shook their heads, going back into their fighting stances as they challenged each other. A soft scoff escaped you. "That's what I thought."
"You're scaring them, my love."
You turned to see your husband, now known as Sensei Garmadon, walk in the training room with a lighthearted smile. Lloyd looked over and gave him a wave but quickly returned to his training after the firm look you'd given him.
"I'm teaching strengthening their skills. They've gotten lazy and have grown an ego."
Jay immediately looked over in offense. "Hey! We're right here you know?!"
"Did I say training was over?" Jay's face paled instantly before returning to his stances again. Garmadon laughed at his husband's way of intimidating the ninja. He stepped closer and placed a hand on your lower back, rubbing small circles with his thumb.
"Be patient with this group. They seem like rebels now but they have done remarkable things for Ninjago." You knew we wasn't lying, the ninja had saved Ninjago several times over the years which you were there for. It was still no excuse for getting as lazy as they did. "They seem like they could use another hour of training."
The ninja let out collective groans but quickly composed themselves at your glare. Garmadon couldn't help the chuckle that escaped him. "Actually, I think it's time for a break. Wu gave me some tea I hoped to share with you." The ninja looked over expectantly, hoping you'd let them go for a break. You wanted to protest to keep them training but at the offer of tea you couldn't refuse. "Fine. Trainings over for the day."
The ninja cheered and filed out the room, Lloyd looking between his friends and his father in thought. He waved goodbye at his parents and left with the group. You shook your head with a groan as Garmadon chuckled again as he led you out of the room and towards the kitchen.
☯︎☾ ゚.
Despite how the ninja reacted, they were actually grateful you were training them. You had years of experience and gave them a new perspective on their line of work. Unbeknownst to you, the ninja see you as a role model they hoped to resonate with one day. As strict as you were, you cared for each ninja like they were your own. Besides, you secretly thought it was funny the way they whined whenever you made them repeat a move. It reminded you of how you were as a student. Garmadon was trying to get you to admit it out loud.
"They're good kids, I'll admit. But I did not sound like Jay." You were making yourself some tea, a habit you got from your brother-in-law, as your husband relentlessly teased you.
"I was wondering why his whining sounded familiar. He's a carbon copy of you when we were at their level." You rolled your eyes, fighting back a smirk. "I didn't whine either. Our sensei was a stern man. If anything I'm going easy on these kids." Garmadon chuckled fondly as he drank his own tea.
You turned around and sat next to him, lightly smacking his hand away when he tried reaching for one of your snacks. Before your husband could tease you any further, Lloyd walked in. He wore a guilty expression as he sat in front of you, "Hey, dads." His voice was quiet then it usually was. It was a sign he wanted to talk about something serious but he was still contemplating his words. You remembered his habits since you helped raised him for a majority of his childhood.
You nodded at his greeting while taking a sip of your tea as Garmadon set his down. "Are you alright, son?" Lloyd finally met his father's eyes with a smile. "Yeah, of course I'm fine."
You huffed, setting your cup down. "Your eyes tell a different story." Lloyd let out a nervous laugh at your stare, and how right you were. "I swear it's nothing to do with me. I only wanted to apologize to you." You stared at Lloyd for a long moment. What could he possibly apologize for? The only thing that came to mind was last week when he had accidentally messed up the scroll room while looking for something. You hardly remember what the reason was as the only recollection from that moment was how much he apologized and used Spinjitzu to clean the room again. You glanced at Garmadon who looked as confused as you did. He shrugged, grabbing his cup again, as you cleared your throat. "Apologize for what?"
Lloyd meet your gaze with a soft smile, "For the team's behavior. We've all realized how lazy we've become these past couple months while you take training seriously. It's not fair to you, dad." You were honestly surprised Lloyd was the only one here. You'd definitely demand an apology from the other's too if that's what they felt. His words were true, you trained them hard because you knew they were already at that level. Their only flaw was getting unproductive the moment Ninjago was no longer threatened. You wanted to change that so they stayed at peak condition at all times. You were just naturally strict because you cared.
You shook your head with a sigh, a smile creeping up on your lips. "There is no need to apologize. I understand that you're young and have other distractions. You kids aren't just ninja, you know." Lloyd opened his mouth to try and reason why that somehow wasn't fair when Garmadon beat him to it, "I think that as long as you all agree to train harder, we'll come to an understanding. Correct?"
Lloyd nodded as he apologized again profusely, getting up to share the news with his teammates. You guessed it was because he was glad you didn't scold at him that much. When he left the kitchen, your Garmadon turned to you. "He looks up to you more than me, you know that?"
You looked over at him with an amused smile. "Well I practically raised him. He has my sass." Garmadon laughed as he took your hand in his. "I'm glad it was you. I never properly thanked you for being there for him when…" He trailed off but you knew what he was talking about. When he was consumed by darkness, he never had time to be a father or a good role model towards Lloyd. That's why he's glad Lloyd found the ninja and had you to guide him towards the right path. You squeezed his hand in return. "I already told you. Don't mention it. I promised you I'd take care of him, didn't I?"
That earned a fond chuckle out of Garmadon. The promise they made when they were young, before the darkness consumed him. He remembered how safe he felt when you held him throughout the nights. When you slept beside him, he could almost forget there was an evil inside him waiting to emerge. Lloyd was still a baby at the time so he had no way of understanding what was happening. He made the promise with you the night he had his worst nightmare.
As Garmadon pressed a firm kiss to the side of your head, his mind drifted off to that night. While you went on about the day's training he couldn't help let the memory reply in his head.
☯︎☾ ゚.
Garmadon woke up screaming.
His body was aching with a pain as he sat up gasping for air while clutching his head. His nightmares had grown more frequently lately but this one was vivid. It was like the evil inside him was trying to consume him that very night and the only reason it didn't succeed was because he woke up. You sat up after him, holding him in your strong arms as he sobbed. Garmadon felt small in that moment, but he felt himself calm down in your arms. You wiped his tears, whispering sweet words into his ear as he clutched onto you.
At some point, you got up to bring him a towel and water. He didn't realize how much he was sweating and how dry his throat was until after he stopped crying. All he wanted was for the evil to leave him so he could be the man you wanted.
"Are you alright?" Your voice finally cut through his thoughts after his breathing went back to normal. He nodded as he flopped down onto the mattress. "Yes…Thank you. I didn't mean to scare you." You sat beside him, gently dabbing his forehead with the towel. "You definitely frightened me. It's nothing I can't handle." Garmadon nodded before looking over at the crib that sat near them. Inside was his infant son. Miraculously, Lloyd hadn't awoken from Garmadon's outburst. The baby boy was still sleeping soundly in the dragon onesie you got for him.
Sensing his concern, you caressed his cheek with your finger. "He didn't so much as gurgle. That baby is resilient." Garmadon sighed in relief as he took your hand and kissed your palm. "I'm scared for the day this darkness consumes me. All I can think about is what will happen to you two."
Your expression softened as you leaned in and pressed your lips against his for a quick kiss. "We'll be fine. All three of us. We'll find a cure so you don't have to worry anymore." Garmadon sat up, letting you lean back so he could place cup your face with both hands. "And what if that day comes too late? What if there isn't a cure for me?" You held his wrists firmly, his words sending a shiver down your spine. "We will. Wu is making plans too-"
"There isn't a guarantee, {Name}. Anything can happen so I need you to be prepared. Promise me-"
"Garmadon."
"Promise me. Promise me you and Lloyd are far away from me when that happens. He doesn't have to grow up fearing his own father." You wanted to protest. You wanted to say that there would be a cure but the look he gave you said otherwise, so you gave in. For his sake. With a shaky sigh, you pressed your forehead against his. "I promise, Garmadon…But we will find a cure. No matter how long it takes." Garmadon chuckled as he kissed you, wiping the tears that had started to run down your cheeks. His kiss was firm, grounding you both in the moment and the life long promise you swore too.
As you broke away, Lloyd made a small gurgle sound from his crib. You both looked over at the baby in surprise. "I spoke too soon. He made one sound tonight."
You shared a quiet laugh as Garmadon pulled you down on the bed beside him. You stroked his cheek as you went on to ramble about how you dreaded the training your sensei would make you endure in the morning. He listened to you as his arms wrapped secularly around your body. Once you fell asleep, he pressed a final kiss to your forehead as his final thought of the night drifted off towards the promise he knew you planned to keep.
For everyone's sake.
☯︎☾ ゚.
"Alright, take a ten minute break."
The ninja collectively collapsed onto the floor in exhaustion. They've gotten better over the best few days. That still didn't leave out the fact they were spent after your training sessions. After they all had come to you to apologize like how Lloyd did, the ninja had gotten increasingly sharper with training. They no longer whined or complained about how strict your teachings were. The ninja had shown improvement in all areas. There was always the occasional protest but you hardly minded.
You had also given them more leisure time as a reward.
While the ninja sat around drinking water on the mat, you sat beside your husband as he read a scroll. "I never thought I'd see the day where you would go easy on them." You scoffed while picking up a scroll from beside him to read yourself. "Easy? I'm only warming them up. Now that they're better I plan to move on to teach them more advanced moves." Garmadon chuckled as he shook his head, you were getting soft on those kids.
Garmadon set his scroll down and took your hand in his. Your wedding ring gleamed on your finger, a reminder of the love that you two shared. He lifted your hand and pressed a kiss to your ring. "Thank you. For keeping your promise. I know it was hard for you both."
Your eyes softened as you squeezed his hand reassuringly. "Told you there would be a cure, didn't I?" Garmadon let out a warm laugh at your words as he was reminded of how stubborn you are. Even after all these years, his husband never gave up on a cure. When the evil inside him consumed his body, he held onto hope deep inside that you never gave up on him. For that, he'll always be grateful. "That you did, my love."
As you shared your moment together, Jay leaned close to Nya and whispered, "Do you think if we sneak out now, they'll notice?"
Nya gave him a firm look. "Don't even think about it. Let them have their moment." Lloyd looked over at his parents whispering to each other. He knew they were talking about their past by the looks they gave each other. Lloyd smiled and turned back to his friends, happy that his dads could live in the moment peacefully without fear.

I finally finished my masterlist! I'll post it shortly after this so hopefully the links work. I changed the theme again bc I love my son too much not to include him :D
Hi! I hope you’re having a nice day! I saw your requests were open and wanted to ask for a one shot.
Can I request Lloyd Garmadon x female reader where the reader is trying to get on his good side because she’s leading a little vigilante team and wants to ally herself with the ninja. But she’s sort of teasing and flirting with him because she’s trying to hide that she’s into him and he’s not reacting well because of his trouble with romantic relationships/inexperience.
Sorry if this is too much. Best wishes!
"Under the Moon."
𓆰Now playing - Moonlight - Ariana Grande
𓆰 Synopsis - You're the leader of a vigilante group that operates in the underground of Ninjago City. Wanting to expand on your resources, you suggest a team up with the Ninja that save the city during the day. The leader is willing to agree, but you can't help but tease him to see his reaction.
Pairing - Lloyd x f!reader (vigilante reader)
W/c - 3.81k
Note - Fluffy except for one part kinda but it's not really angst either so - SLIGHT harumi mention and her relationship with lloyd + how that still affects him - kai being lloyd's brother!! - i gave your vigilante group members names and named the group Moonlight (it'll make sense hopefully) - reader doesn't have an elemental power - citizens know about their ninja's identity - takes place sometime after the Oni trilogy
A/n - Okay this took forever because I was on roblox all the time. I tried locking in but the grind couldn't be stopped... Anyways I hope you like this one sorry for the wait🥹❤️ (the song was a MUST) - also there might be grammar mistakes but I swear I checked for them
𓆰*:・⚔︎
Ninjago city never looked better. Clear skies and flowers blooming around the city park. The citizens felt safe knowing that the heroic ninja squad was at the ready for any threats that could possibly be made. They were skilled elemental masters who have saved Ninjago countless of times, earning the respect of the people and the government. Whatever villain that could pose a threat, it's no doubt the ninja would be at the ready.
You couldn't lie, the ninja were good at their jobs. It's what made them so popular among the citizens. They were at award ceremonies receiving keys to the city and attending elite events. Not to mention the several fan pages for each ninja from fans. Their popularity exceeded that of celebrities which was pretty impressive.
It's why you wanted your group to team up with them.
Unlike the ninja, you were part of the vigilante group Moonlight. You had never thought to give yourself a name like that but your teammate, Moxie, insisted the name fit the group. She was the one who dubbed the group "Moonlight" since your operations happened at night. It was stupid at first but the name stuck after a while so it became your official name.
No one knew there was a secret vigilante group, that was the idea. Moonlight handled all the "dirty" work after dark, the kind of work the average person couldn't stomach. You stopped a lot of bad people but the catch was everyone thought it was the work of the ninja. Any underground case Moonlight managed to uncover was always highlighted as the ninja's work from the media. Speaking of which, the Green Ninja always manged to catch your eye. The way he handled the news and fan interactions made you respect his work.
His name was Lloyd. He was open about his real identity, so were the other ninja. It added a new layer of respect knowing they could trust an entire city with the power they hold. It made you want the same for Moonlight.
"Great. Another win for the ninja. Is that all Ninjago has to report on?" Rio, your tech guy, spoke as he walked into your apartment. It became Moonlight's base of operations overtime. Rio, being your roommate, had all of his gadgets in his room so it was easier to meet in your shared apartment since it was his station. Not that you minded, it was nice having company around since the other members spent most days sleeping on the couches or guest room.
"Don't be like that. They saved Ninjago City plenty of times. We just deal with the underground work they never come around to." Ava, your second in command, reasoned from her seat beside you. The other field units, Moxie and Lucas, sat right across from you.
"They're getting suspicious. Remember that drug ring we uncovered last week? They got credit for it but they know someone else uncovered it. The ninja will probably, if not are already, investigating who we are." Lucas, the grim one, stated as he leaned back in his chair. He had a point, the ninja had started digging around on who has been behind solving underground crimes. It was only a matter of time before you all were busted.
"Oh, we're gonna get busted aren't we? Let's elope now while we still have the chance!" Shrieked Moxie in a panic. You all gave her a look, a small chuckle escaping you, "Calm down. We're not exactly doing anything wrong, per say. I'm sure if they find us, they'd want to thank us or even team up." You replied in a calm tone, trying to soothe Moxie. Rio finally wandered over, "Actually that doesn't sound like a bad idea."
Lucas snorted. "Of course it doesn't to you. Sounds like a dream working with the Earth Ninja, huh?" Everyone laughed as Rio smacked Lucas behind the head. He gave the rest of you a look which shut down any more teasing, "As I was saying, it would benefit us if we became friends with the ninja. Think of the team ups while trying to bust down criminals." As always, Rio made an excellent point.
"Come to think of it, teaming up with them could also grant us access to new tech. I'm sure you're in need of some, Rio." You added as Rio nodded, "Exactly. See? [Name] gets it."
You laughed as Ava seemed to come to an agreement in her mind. "It could also benefit them. We always have the latest intel on crime groups. I'm sure they'd also want to know what happens in the shadows." Moxie nodded in agreement, honestly she'd be happy working with anyone if it meant more fighting. Lucas seemed like the only one who was disinterested in the idea. "Seriously? This is a horrible idea. We're fine how we are why change it? If anything, we should be covering our tracks so they don't find us."
"They're bound to find us either way, dipshit." Ava retorted in a done tone.
"Wanna bet, asshole?" Lucas fired back. You rolled your eyes at their banter before standing up and clapping your hands together. "Alright. All in favor of teaming up with the ninja?" Ava, Rio, and Moxie raised their hands as Lucas scoffed at their enthusiasm. "Alright it's settled. We're gonna meet the ninja."
"Who made you leader again?" Lucas asked sarcastically, still annoyed over the outcome. "I did since, you know, I started the team. I'm your fearless leader afterall." You sassed back smugly with a smirk causing Lucas to roll his eyes. "Okay now that it's settled, who wants to initiate a meeting?"
Everyone looked between each other. It was obvious they didn't want to be the ones to reach out first. Rio raised his hand, "I can send a message for us, but that's as far as I'm willing to go."
Lucas took the opportunity to stand and gave you a smirk, "I think our fearless leader should be the one to initiate a meeting." The other three agreed immediately as they all stood up as well, glad it wasn't any of them. "Hey wait-!" But it was too late as everyone headed towards the kitchen for some celebratory cheesecake.
Guess it's up to you now.

Another great thing about Ninjago City is seeing it at night. More specifically on top of building as you stare up at the stars. The moon was beautiful when it was full, no wonder Moxie based your group name off of it. You sat over the edge of a building. It was high enough for a vantage point over most of the city. It was also high enough for some privacy. Usually, you wouldn't lounge around where you could easily be found out but tonight you were hoping that was the case. Rio had sent an encrypted message to the Ice Ninja, somehow, that asked the Lloyd to meet with Moonlight's leader, you, at the designated location.
So here you were, waiting for the Green Ninja. It had been over an hour and you were starting to get frustrated with his tardiness. You had hoped Rio hadn't taken the opportunity to mess with you, something he tends to do a lot. After what seemed like forever, you heard the unmistakable sound of a dragon approaching. Standing up, you turned to the source of the sound. The green dragon landed on the building as the Green Ninja jumped off. The dragon disappeared in a dust of green particles which was kinda cool seeing it in person. In a professional way, of course.
Lloyd, took off his mask as he approached. You couldn't help but appreciate the color of his eyes. You had noticed them when watching him on the news but it was different up close. They were a beautiful shade of green that pulled you in instantly. Professionally, though. Seeing the way your team teased Rio endlessly about his crush over the Earth Ninja, you couldn't help but imagine how cruel they'd be to you if they knew you felt a slight attraction to Lloyd.
It wouldn't hurt to tease him a little though.
As he stopped a couple feet away from you he cleared his throat, "You must be the leader of the vigilante group. Moonlight, right?" You couldn't help yourself.
"That's me, blondie. I'm glad you accepted our invitation. Call me {Name}" You shot him a playful wink, one he didn't seem to pleased to receive. His eyes widened slightly before he returned to his professional look, "Can you take off your mask, please? That way I can know if you're willing to trust me."
"Bossy. You know, you're the first person to see me without a mask besides my team. You should feel honored." Despite your teasing, you removed your mask to reveal your face. His eyes flickered with something but it returned to his stone face as quick as it showed. "What, no compliment? We're supposed to trust each other, blondie."
"Just Lloyd is fine."
"Whatever you say, blondie."
Lloyd's expression flattered at the nickname. He thought he was here for an important briefing yet you keep borderline flirting with him. Unlike the crazy fans he dealt with earlier, the ones who kept yelling in his face for his attention, you were more laid back. Honestly, he didn't want to jump to the conclusion that you were flirting but something in him hoped that was the case. Lloyd quickly shifted back to his professional expression, hoping you didn't see his growing blush.
You didn't seem to sense his inner turmoil but definitely noticed the pink dusted on his cheeks. Luckily for him, you didn't comment on it and started to properly introduce your group. You explained who Moonlight was and what you did. You also explained how your group wanted to team up with the ninja to solve even more crimes. After you were done explaining, he said he would talk to his team about the offer now that he saw you were a legitimate vigilante group. You decided to meet tomorrow night for his answer to Moonlight's proposal. When you were done, you couldn't help the natural tease that came.
"Any questions? Or are you gonna stand there blushing at me?" You smirked playfully as he cleared his throat and looked away to gather his thoughts. When he looked up he gave you the most serious look he could muster. "No, I got it. I'll relay this information with my team. We'll be in touch."
"Leaving so soon? Aren't you gonna ask for my number?"
Lloyd froze as he choked on his spit, "Excuse me?"
You shrugged, secretly enjoying his flustered state, "My number? So you can contact us easier. Did you think it was for a date with me or something?" Lloyd looked away to avoid you seeing how red his face got and summoned his dragon. Why was your teasing affecting him this much. "Your friend left a way to contact you guys. I don't need your number."
"What a shame. Here I was, hoping I'd go home with a cute catch like you, Lloyd!" Lloyd's brain short circuited. When he turned to face you, the blush on his face was too adorable. He tried to speak but it was a loss cause at this point. You laughed at the expression on his face that made him look even cuter.
"Sorry, sorry! I'll stop with the jokes." Lloyd seemed to calm down a bit with that, his face cooling down. It was clear the poor man was embarrassed at how flustered he'd become with your words. He nodded again and stumbled away awkwardly, "Great. We'll be in contact."
He quickly dismissed you and flew off. As you watched his dragon fly off in the distance, you couldn't help another laugh that escaped you. The way he scurried off out of embarrassment was an endearing sight. Your teasing seemed to have a larger affect on him then you anticipated, so you plan to keep on teasing the Green Ninja. You made a mental note to apologize for scaring him off the next time you meet.
Hopefully he doesn't die of embarrassment again.

The ninja had agreed to teaming up with Moonlight. With what the information Lloyd had shared, they seemed like a group who was worth working with. They could finally have a team dedicated solely to the underground crimes the ninja can't reach. Being as famous as they were, it'd be easier for an unknown team to report on different criminals. The more allies they had, the better chances they had to clean up the city from the inside. Besides, the group behind Moonlight seemed like really honest people.
After their mini meeting and everyone went their separate ways, Lloyd went to the training room to blow off some steam. He really made a fool of himself during his meeting with {Name}. It had been a while since someone had tried to flirt like that and it caught him off guard. Usually, he handled crazy fans by ignoring them completely since he felt nothing while dealing with them. {Name} had awoken feelings in him he'd thought were long gone after his last experience with love. Funnily enough, it made him think back to those days and to the person he though he could give his undying trust too.
He knew her true feelings towards him, he was just a tool for her evil plans. That open trust he handed to her was shattered the moment she hurt the people he loved. He doesn't know if he's ready to trust again. {Name} didn't seem like the kind of girl to really have a cult following but he couldn't help but have that suspicion. He had developed a sort of defense mechanism whenever a fan was trying to hit on him. He'd politely decline but if they got pushy with him one of the other ninja had to help him out of those situations. {Name} somehow managed to come across as someone who stood apart from his fans. An attraction that both intrigued and scared him. He still managed too make himself look like an idiot in front of her.
"I think your sword is sharp enough, Lloyd." Kai's voice pulled Lloyd from his thoughts. He was on the floor sharping his sword, the one he was supposed to use during training. He the realized he hadn't stopped sharpening his sword since he walked in. Fifteen minutes ago. "You can never be too careful." Lloyd joked as he scratched the back of his head.
Kai laughed as he sat in front of Lloyd. He wasn't an idiot, he knew there was something on his younger brother's mind with the way he didn't notice Kai standing by the entrance. "Alright out with it. You've been quiet ever since you got back. What's the matter? Did Moonlight's leader say something to you?" Lloyd sighed before settling his sword aside, now ten times sharper. Lloyd leaned back on his arms as he looked at Kai. "Sorta. The leader, {Name}, I think she was trying to flirt with me but I made myself look like an idiot."
Kai' snorted but he Lloyd continue for his sake, "Don't laugh. I froze up, you know? The way she teased me it felt genuine. I can't explain it but it's different from how the fans try and hit on me." Kai nodded along, his expression softening into a sad smile. He knew after all this time, Lloyd was still recovering from his past relationship. He hadn't really experienced and authentic relationship since his experience with Harumi changed his idea of what love looked like. The extreme fans they dealt with didn't help either but it was a good sign seeing Lloyd learning to open up some more. Kai leaned forward slightly, "I'm sure you didn't embarrass yourself that much. I bet she liked seeing you trip over yourself."
"I think I choked on my spit somehow," Lloyd grabbed his sword again to put it back into its sleeve,"I'm just confused. Don't get me wrong, she's pretty but I'd want to get to know her first before any of that. Or before I find out she's actually some crazy psychopath."
Kai tilted his head with his signature smirk, "So she's pretty? That's usually a start." Lloyd gave him an unamused look. "Calm down. Maybe this could be a chance for you to move on. You could potentially find something in this girl you like."
Lloyd raised his eyebrow.
"Now I'm not saying to start planning your wedding-!"
"Kai."
"I am saying too take this slow, like you said. She seems to have the same values as us morally. And hey, she's the leader of her own group too so you can bond over that." Kai beamed at his brother, the ladder looking a little more hesitant to the idea.
"We'll be working with them from here on out so you have plenty of time to get to know her and the rest of her team. No rush. And if you don't like her? That's fine too. You'd gain another friend at least." As blunt as his words were, Kai was right. This could be a chance for Lloyd to start over for once. He can move on from his past and hopefully find something in {Name}. Maybe. He was still sure he embarrassed himself beyond recovery. Lloyd beamed at his brother as he leaned back on his elbows. Kai then stood and extended his hand to his younger brother.
"Great, now show me that move you were bragging about earlier." Lloyd took his brother's hand and did as he asked. The move Lloyd was talking about ended up with Kai on the floor a couple of times. All the while, Lloyd kept thinking back to the way {Name} seemed to casual during their interactions. He definitely need to brush up on his own skills before he meets her again.

It had been a couple months since Moonlight and the Ninja officially teamed up. Both teams fell into an easy routine overtime. The Ninja followed their regular schedule, dealing with petty crimes during the day, while Moonlight handled the underground work. Any new crime groups that popped up was dealt with by both groups. The Ninja had been informed of what kind of stuff happens under the surface which better prepared them for missions surrounding it.
Both of the teams grew closer over the months. Rio found a connection with Zane, Jay, and Nya as they bonded over their tech. Ava became close with Nya and Morro as well through a mutual pastime of sparring. Lucas, somehow, bonded more with Jay and Kai as they were usually split up together during missions. Moxie made fast friends with everyone early on and considered the whole Ninja squad as her second family. She was similar to Cole with how easygoing they both were.
You and Lloyd had gotten closer as well. The day you had apologized for your teasing on that first night, he became even more flustered. He didn't expect you to apologize for that so it caught him off guard. It was an adorable sight. He beat himself up because of how nervous he was around you. Thankfully, he got less nervous overtime but you occasionally flustered him at times.
Tonight the moon was half full. You and Lloyd had the tradition of sparring on rooftops during his turn to patrol at night. It was no different this time, he had beaten you this time but he couldn't deny you were a good opponent even without an elemental power. As you finished your match, you sat against the railing of the roof rubbing your back.
"You didn't have too slam me to the ground, you know?" You called out teasingly. Lloyd chuckled as he walked over and took a seat next to you. "I went easy on you this time." You rolled your eyes but couldn't help the laugh that escaped you. Lloyd had grown more comfortable over time which excited you because you got to tease him more. He always got flustered but he was able to tease back. It was progress he thanks Cole for.
You leaned back and looked at the sky. He followed your gaze and stared at the moon with you in comfortable silence.
"Ninjago has gotten safer ever since we teamed up." Your voice was quiet as you continued to look at the moon. You were right, ever since the Ninja has gotten more involved underground crime groups rarely popped up in Rio's radar. Either out of fear or respect, those criminals had slowly stepped down. Lloyd looked over at you with the tiniest smile, "Yeah. It was the best decision I ever made."
You looked back at him meeting his eyes. The look he gave you was one of utter adoration. He trusted you enough to be this open with you about his feelings. You felt yourself softening at his stare, "Is there another reason you made that decision?" You teased him quietly which sent him into a blushing mess.
"Meeting you guys of course! Not just you, you're great! Amazing even!"
"So you do like me!"
"That's not what I meant! Wait, no, I do like you!" Lloyd groaned in embarrassment as he hid his face in his hands. You continued to tease him some more, "Don't get shy on me. Is this how you're gonna act when you ask me on a date?"
"Wait what?!"
The quiet moment was ruined as Lloyd tried to regain his dignity while you teased him endlessly. In the end, both of you were even more smitten then before. Lloyd was about ten shades darker but you didn't comment on it for his sake. Eventually, he summoned his dragon and bid his farewell as it was time for him to return to the monastery. As he said goodbye, you realized you never gave him your personal number. Contacting through the group channels didn't seem ideal for you both so you wrote him a little note. Before he could get on his dragon, you grabbed his wrist and slipped a piece of paper into his hand. Lloyd turned to you in confusion.
"What's-!" You interrupted him by kissing his cheek. He froze.
"Just a little note for next time. See ya!" You laughed before quickly jumping off the roof to another and making your escape. It was mainly to hide how embarrassed you were but no one needed to know.
As Lloyd flew away, he unraveled the note. What was inside flustered him so bad he almost crashed his dragon over the forest.

Text me for that date ;) xoxo
Safe to say, he would be asking you on a date soon.

The Tournament of Sources is an ancient ritual element masters have been partaking in for the past centuries. At least, that's what Roby tried to explain. He mostly skimmed through that part to get to the exciting details of the tournament. More historical facts were his uncle's specialty, Mr. Fengxian. You learned quickly that Roby was more laidback then the strict traditions he had to upkeep as the game master.
After arriving in the City of Temples, the ninjas were immediately enrolled in the game. Barely. None of them received an invitation but luckily Roby was kind enough to offer them a chance. Since you didn't have any elemental powers so you took the liberty of going undercover to help. In all honesty, maybe it was a good idea you did the stealthier work. Climbing up that mountain was brutal. Wyldfyre wanted to join you but was convinced to stay in the tournament. You guessed she wanted to spend some extra time with Roby behind the scenes.
“Be careful around Mr. Fengxian. If there's anything we learned from entering a tournament like this last time, the hosts are usually up to no good.” You were a little confused by what he meant by that. Had they faced other kinds of villains? By the look Cole gave you, don't ask, maybe it was a long story you’d rather not know right now.
"Oh! Make sure to put in a good word for me!" Wyldfyre never failed to make you smile. She was finally starting to express herself more around people besides the ninja. This Roby guy really seemed good for her.
Back to the present, you were invited to a tour of the several artifacts the City of Temples had on display.
“We have many artifacts passed down from previous elemental masters. See this? A sword given to our museum from our previous champion…” Mr. Frengxian went on to describe the sword and the elemental master in detail. You really didn't care about the significance of what he was talking about. All you were looking for was for anything suspicious about the way the tournament was run or any secrets he might be hiding. Lloyd said to look for any hidden motives. Anything that could be considered evil or could be used against the ninja. So far, you've learned about ten artifacts in the span of an hour.
“And this one-Oh! Lord Ras!” Mr. Fengxian stopped dead in his tracks as this Ras guy approached. You recognized the anthropomorphic tiger, not pleasantly of course. Thanks to him, Kai is lost somewhere. You say “lost” because you refuse to believe he's really gone. Nya agrees with the sentiment.
Behind Ras his second in command, Cinder, leaned against a wall his eyes solely trained on you. Mr. Fengxian excused himself to the side and began to discuss something with Ras. As much as you wanted. you couldn't stop looking at Cinder. He offered you, what looked like, an apologetic smile.
You in return scowled at him, turning away towards the very artifact you couldn't care less for moments ago. Cinder watched your reaction. It was valid considering he had been apart of the reason whyKai was lost, or dead. What was with you two all of a sudden? Cinder carefully approached you, standing a few feet away to give you space. “Hey.” Real smooth.
You didn't turn to look at him, “Seriously? That's what you say to me after all this time?”
A nervous chuckle left Cinder, she was right again. His choice of wording wasn't horrible to be honest. “I know you're angry. Let me explain-!” You snapped up at him.
“Explain?! You threw Kai into who knows where! What's there to explain when what you did was pure evil?!”
“Technically, it wasn't me who did it-!”
“Yet you were a part of it, weren't you?! You're just as responsible!” You finally turned around, facing him. Seeing your face again, even if it was an angry expression, made his heart clench. So many memories from their past brought in through one look. She's amazing.
“{Name} can you at least let me explain my side? For old times sake.” You hated that he brought up the past. You’ve been trying to bury them ever since you realized how evil he was now. Yet you still held a fondness over them. Some memories you refused to forget, especially with him.
Reluctantly, you nodded once. His smiled softened only a fraction before he continued. “What I’m doing? It's to stop the merge from ever happening. If Ras gets what he wants, everyone will go back to before. We’ll go back to before.”
You couldn't believe what he was saying. There was a way to go back to before the merge? No, it was impossible. Whatever Ras told Cinder had to be a lie. It was convincing enough for your past lover to believe and dedicate himself too fight for. He noted your silence, hesitantly reaching for your hand. You slapped it away with a firm stare, his lips curving to a sheepish smile as he stepped back. “You’ve been brainwashed, Cinder! Whatever Ras is telling you is bullshit!"
That seemed to set hit a nerve. “He has a purpose! He knows what he's doing! Those ninja you’re with? They don't know anything about this world.” You glared at his words. Sure, it was true the ninja were as lost as you but it's not their fault. You’ve seen it first hand, all they do is fight evil and make sense of this new world. That's all you need to know about them to call them heros.
“The ninja are lost. They’ll end up like Kai if they continue down this path.” Now that set you off.
A slap echoed throughout the hallway. Ras and Mr. Fengxian, who were already looking at you two while you argued, let out audible winces at the sound. "You don't get to bring him up."
"Why? Do you actually care for him? Let me guess…" Cinder scoffed as he held your gaze while rubbing his cheek. You knew what he was referring too when questioning your relationship with Kai. Of course you two were friends, but you couldn't deny the underlying feelings between you two.
Nya noticed the tension immediately. "He used to be a big flirt before the merge. Now he's more layed back. Maybe you changed his perspective on love." If Kai ever came back you'd have a hell of a lot of feelings to share. You noticed it in the way he stayed closest to you on missions. He would stay by you even during his free time at the monastery. You both grew a strong bond with one another over time which eventually blossomed into something you can't quite name. You wanted to pursue something with Kai, but there was something holding you back.
That somethinng, or someone, was standing right in front of you. The way he tilted his head to the side was an indication. One that showed that he knew.
"So I was right. Isn't that a surprise. A couple years without me an you already move on."
"Moved on? What are we, schoolchildren?" Cinder laughed at your words before looking at the artifact behind you. "No but you know I'm right. He was there when I wasn't so you attached yourself to him. Admit it."
"I can't believe you right now! Forget this! I'm leaving!"With that, you stormed out without saying goodbye. Cinder watched you go, his face mixed with regret and frustration. Ras approached him after you left the hall. "Trouble in paradise? Don't worry yourself, she's a distraction, anyways. If it comes to it, get rid of her."
Cinder's jaw clenched. "I'll follow your orders, Lord Ras. But don't even think about threatening her. She's not apart of this." Ras shrugged before turning back to Mr. Fengxian, the latter being a little too invested in the drama that unfolded before him.
Cinder was loyal to Ras, that's for sure. Yet hurting you was out of the question. That's why he promised himself to never let you near Ras. Even if it meant losing you for now.
༄.°꩜
"So Mr. Fengxian met with Ras? Did you hear what they were talking about?"
"I was with Roby the entire day! He couldn't have done anything!"
"I'm talking about his uncle!"
Lloyd tried to explain himself but Wyldfyre was quick to defend the Fengxian name. A smile crept across your lips, it was cute seeing Wyldfyre get defensive over Roby. She had developed a crush on the young game master which you found adorable. She denies it now but when she realizes how much she really likes him you'll bet they'll become inseparable. You cleared your throat to get their attention.
Lloyd had come into your room not long ago for an update about your findings. Wyldfyre came barging when she overheard you both discussing the Fengxians, she was against the idea of Roby having any part of an evil master plan. Your companions looked up as you shook your head fondly.
"I couldn't hear what they said but whatever it was sounded important. They were pretty secretive about it. I doubt Roby would be involved in something like that." Wyldfyre seemed to like the last idea. It means Roby's wasn't to blame. "He seemed really proud of his museum too."
Lloyd smirked at your sarcasm before letting out a sigh. "Alright. We'll put a hold on that plan then. Keep an eye out okay? You never know what this City could hide." With that, he bid you goodnight and left with Wyldfyre.
You locked the door and leaned against it for a moment. Your confrontation with Cinder replayed in your mind. Maybe you shouldn't have slapped him, but he deserved it after what he said. A side of you wished you could slap him again to knock some sense into him. Afterwards you could kiss him better. Sounds nice.
The sound of smoke manifesting on your balcony snapped you out of your thoughts. Don't tell me. You stormed over to the doors leading to the outside and flung them open. Cinder stood there awkwardly, he'd been caught red handed. You wanted to tell him to buzz off but before the words could come out of your mouth he leaned against the railing with an expression you could only describe as longing. You sighed, closing the doors behind you.
"I knew you'd run to tell your friends." An amused sound came from Cinder. "Is that why you're here? To see if I'd rather you out? Very mature of you. And for your information, the ninjas aren't lost. They know Ras is up to no good and will stop him at any costs." Cinder clicked his tongue at your determined words. He was always fond of the look you'd get when you were passionate about something. "Anything can happen. Don't forget that, {N/n}."
"Stop calling me that."
"Can't I? Unless you prefer it coming out of someone else's mouth."
You narrowed your eyes at Cinder, again. "You've changed ever since the merge. You're not like the man I grew up with." That seemed to hurt Cinder. His expression faulted before it hardened. "When Ras succeeds, we'll go back to before. Don't you want that? The life we had before this mess."
You thought about it for a moment. Of course you dreamed of that time where it was just you and Cinder facing the world together. Did you love Cinder still? Yes. That was for certain, but these were different times. People adapt to change.
Could you support the path he's on? No. I'm sorry.
Your eyes searched his for any sign of vulnerability, nothing. He carefully took your hands in his, squeezing gently. A gesture he used to do to help clear your mind. You let out a sigh, it worked like it always had.
You opened your mouth but instead of words you flung into his arms. He yelped slightly but quickly reversed by wrapping his arms around you. Desperately, you held onto him as you sobbed. Cinder quietly kissed the crown of you head, an apology for the turmoil this must be casuing you. He still loved you after all.
When you calmed down, you didn't let him go. Your grip on him tightened ever so slightly. "Leave Ras. Join the ninja." Cinder froze as you offered him redemption. It was a nice thought, he could be with you once again and rebuild your relationship.
Maybe in another life he would've said yes. "You know I can't, {N/n}."
You let him use that nickname this one time. It was that night you realized Cinder would never be yours. At least not like before.
༄.°꩜
You clapped along with the crowd as the ninjas got recognized for their victory against the Wolf Clan. It was a difficult couple days for you all but everyone managed to survive. That was a miracle in and of itself. Kai was up with his peers, cheering on for Sora as she received a medal. It was a blessing by those Source Dragons that Kai was alive and well. You were still being teased relentlessly by the others after the first thing you did was jump into his arms after the battle.
"Don't ever do that again! You scared us." You had laughed in relief against his shoulder as he spun you around. As he set you down, the others joined for a big group hug. Nya nudged your shoulder afterwards as Kai was being updated on what happened through Lloyd.
"For the record, he got really defensive when Cole asked him if you two were a thing."
"Nya!"
However, everyone knew it wasn't a real victory. Arin had left with Ras not long before, a loss felt mostly by Sora and Lloyd. They were both close to Arin as his best friend and teacher. They must've thought they failed him. You knew it wasn't true, Arin was only lost and desperate to find his parents. He had grown restless after years of searching. Arin would hopefully return to thier side once again.
As you scanned the crowd, a familiar pair of eyes were already locked on you. Glancing back at the ceremony and against your better judgment you approached the cage. "Starting to regret the evil path now?"
Cinder chuckled, a soft sound he only made around you. "Not exactly. You know I'm not easily swayed." You huffed, that wasn't an exaggeration on his part. "Yeah. It takes you years."
You both shared a laugh with one another. A rare sight now that the circumstances between you have changed. "How long will they have you locked up?"
"Don't know. Forever, maybe? I've got lots of charges on my head." You shook your head fondly. This might very well be the last time you see Cinder, might as well make it count.
You placed your hands over his which were resting on the cage bars and leaned in peck his cheek, a gesture that made him pause. "I'll miss you. If I could get you out I would trust me. But if I did, you'd go back to serving Ras wouldn't you?"
Cinder didn't say a word. You were right. The best you could do was offer him an understanding smile, squeezing his hands as Kai approached you two. He was aware of the history you two shared together. It's one of the things you told him right before he fell into the void. Kai stood at your side, gaze directly locked onto Cinder as if to warn him not to try anything.
"They'll be locking you all up for a long time. Ras will join you when we catch him." Cinder chuckled under his breath."My master is stubborn. Catching him will be the least of your worries." Kai narrowed his eyes at him but you grabbed his arm before he could fire a retort back.
"We'll do whatever it takes. Maybe then you'll see how wrong your master is." Cinder shrugged with an unamused look. He'd have to see it to believe it.
Sora came over to pull you aside. She took it the hardest when Arin had left and you assumed she wanted some advice moving forward. Sora had always been like a little sister to you so naturally you'd want to help her. You told her you'd follow her in a moment before looking back at Cinder one last time. "I'll visit you. Wherever they decide to lock you up. I'm sorry it came to this."
Cinder stared at you, his expression softening only a fraction of a second. You still loved him enough to come and see him in jail. That's all it took for him to realize you hadn't changed at all over the years. The devotion for him was still prominent yet he couldn't help but feel like you were detaching yourself from him. Maybe that's why you gravitated towards the ninja. They fought for justice wanting to seek the truth out of this word. You had always hoped he'd be that kind of hero one day with his elemental power. Maybe that's why you got along so well with Kai.
Cinder offered you a wave before you left to find Sora. Kai had stayed in his spot carefully looking at your interactions. He felt bad for you considering how much you cared for Cinder even with his devotion to Ras. He knew you loved him. It wasn't a secret either, Kai was good at reading people so he could tell you two had something going on. He put together that walking away from the man you loved for years was heartbreaking for you even if you didn't show it right now.
"Take care of her for me." Kai flinched as Cinder addressed him. The master of fire looked over at the master of smoke locked in a cage, his eyes never leaving the spot you once stood at. "Me? She can hold her own believe it or not. Lloyd's been teaching her some self defense moves after since she joined."
Cinder nodded, that would ease his worry somewhat. "I figured, but I meant take care of her in heart. She doesn't show it but I know seeing me behind bars is devastating for her." That's one thing Kai can agree with him on.
"I know…I'll make sure to be with her for support. All of us will be there for her if she needs it." Cinder nodded, a smal smirk forming on his lips. "You're good for her. I'm glad she found you."
Kai didn't say anything back, ending their conversation there. He nodded and walked back towards the ceremony with the other elemental masters. Cinder watched him go, he could see the blush creeping on his neck at his implication. It amused him seeing Kai so soft for the woman he grew to care for. The same woman he still loved. He'd never admit it but Cinder imagined what it would be like for you two if he had agreed to join the ninja so many nights ago.
Maybe then he'd find a chance a love you like before.

• You two were coworkers at a popular coffee shop in downtown Ninjago City.
• You were a new hire so you had to get accustomed to the shop and the people working with you.
• Jay was one of your favorites, he treated you like a best friend and got you comfortable with speaking with the rest of the crew. He did hire you after all.
• You got along with the team quickly! Everyone enjoyed your presence and you found yourself building a community at work.
• Everyone except Cinder.
• When he first met you, he didn't really pay much mind to you. He was nice of course, you were a new hire so he was tasked with teaching you how to make the items on the menu.
• Well, Jay made him show you the works of the place. He guessed it was to get him away from any confrontation with customers.
• He had a reputation of snarking back customers that gave Jay and their coworkers a headache everytime trying to deal with the occasional entitled customers.
• To his credit, he was only mean to rude customers. When a customer showed some human decency, he'd be nice of course.
• Back to your training, he took the liberty of showing you how to make all the coffees on the menu. Surprisingly you weren't that bad at it.
• Duh that's why you applied here.
• To his surprise, you started to make him a cup of coffee every time you shared a shift. It was a simple gesture, one he found himself returning.
• Over the next couple weeks, he started to grow a bond with you. He wasn't really close to any of his colleagues besides Jay but you were different.
• It's funny how all it took was making him coffee for him to change his perspective on you. Cinder still adamantly saw you as a coworker though. That's all.
• That changed one day when Jay made the mistake of putting him on chasier duty.
• He wasn't trying to piss off the customer but he could tell they were the type who were used to getting whag they wanted. Besides he was pretty bored at work so why the hell not.
• What surprised him was when you were the one to rile up the customer. He realized you two shared the same humor.
"No, sir. We don't have discounts for influencers. For the one thousandth time." Cinder resisted the urge to roll his eyes. Another one of these Tiktokers trying to use their fame to get nonexistent discounts. He really didn't understand how this guy was "famous" on any platform based on his personality. "Oh c'mon, man. Do you know who I am?"
No. He didn't.
Before he can spit out a sarcastic remark, you popped in beside him. "Sir, we're really busy today. Pay for your coffee and wait for it to get made. You know, like the people over there."
Cinder eyes's widened at your response. He was invested in this. "I'm popular around here! You should give me at least a five percent discount!"
You scoffed at his ignorance. "We do discounts for veterans and students. Since you think you're so high and mightly, a ten dollar cup of coffee shouldn't be any trouble for you."
The guy tried to argue but the customers behind him were already fed up with how long he was taking and started yelling at him. Cinder looked over at you with a small smirk.
"I would've handled that worse."
"Well it's a good thing I'm here."
• After that day, you two started getting closer to each other. You're favorite part of the shift was spooking Jay while he did his rounds. All in good fun, Jay got scared easily.
• As he got closer to you he learned that you identified as bigender. When he asked what that meant you had no problem explaining it to him.
• You told him how you identified with being both male and female and how you fluctuated between them. You weren't just male or female, you were both.
• It was a cool learning experience for Cinder. He listened carefully and even noted your pronouns when you had told him.
• He told you he thought he was being rude when thinking he couldn't tell if you were man or a woman when you first met but to his surprise you took that as a compliment!
• He was happy you did because he felt like he as an asshole. Thankfully you reassured him that wasn't the case!
• Ever since that revelation, you two became closer then ever! You started to hang out with each other outside of work too which didn't go unnoticed by your other coworkers.
• They would tease you two relentlessly but you both denied anything other than two friends wanting to hang out.
• Jay called bullshit everytime.
• Cinder really enjoyed your company, it was really refreshing. You understood his humor and complimented his fashion choices. (Jay said he looked miserable everyday. That was only true half the time.)
• Speaking of Jay, he started to realize how close you two had gotten over the past few months. If he had to guess, you two had developed feelings for each other.
• He should know, he acted the same way when he was around Nya at first.
• In all honesty, he was happy Cinder was finally enjoying coming to work. It was rare to see him smile but you seemed to achieve that with just your presence alone. The customers complained a lot less about his attitude.
• You were a blessing in disguise.
• Jay took it upon himself to set you two up.
• He went to you first and asked you to take Cinder on a date. You agreed but he was a little impatient to he went to Cinder himself to cover his bases.
The shift that afternoon was slow. It was after rush hour so that left another hour of taking a break before another pile of customers came in. Cinder was lounging near the break room on his phone scrolling through his feed when Jay came waltzing in. His coworker was good company, although he wished it was you in Jay's place. Sadly, it was your day off.
Jay sat beside him and cleared his throat. Whatever was about to come out of his mouth better be along the lines of Cinder getting a raise. Unfortunately, it never was.
"You've been getting real close to {Name}, huh?" Cinder looked up from his phone in shock. "Excuse me?"
"C'mon man. I see it. You two have gotten so close. Pretty close actually."
"Get to the point, Jay." Cinder narrowed his eyes at his friend. Jay put his hands up in surrender, slightly intimidated. "I'm just saying! Look if you really like {Name} I suggest planning out a date!" Cinder started at Jay blankly. While he looked disinterested, he was actually considering it in his head. Jay let out a small sigh. "You don't have too. I'm just saying you should because I think they feel the same about you. Put some thought into it, okay?"
Cinder was about to respond but was interrupted when the bell signaling someone had entered the shop ringed. Jay yelped and practically ran out of the break room. He was always the perfectionist after all. Cinder thought about his words again. Sure Jay's advice was pretty on the nose but he was unfortunately right. Cinder started to grow fond of you over the months. Dare he say he became smitten.
You know what? Fuck it. He dialed your number, if you said no he'd probably quit his job so he didn't have to face the humiliation tomorrow. The phone rang and he could feel his nerves rise.
"Hello?" You're voice cut through his thoughts. Well here goes nothing. "Hey, {Name}. No emergency don't worry. Jay's still breathing."
You laughed at his joke, his heart soared hearing that sound. "That good to hear. Why did you call then?" He paused for a second, if this ended badly he's going to strangle Jay this very day. "I wanted to ask if you'd like to go out sometime. Like an actual date this time."
It went quiet of your end, he was prepared to hang up the moment you rejected him. That's what little hope he had in himself. To his surprise, you chuckled softly on the other side.
"Did Jay put you up to this? He told me to ask you out yesterday. I was going to ask tomorrow but I guess you beat me to it, or he was impatient." Of course Jay asked you to do the same thing. He's smarter then Cinder gives him credit for. "Is that a yes then?"
You laughed again. "I'd love too. Does this Saturday work?"
"That's perfect. How does the park sound? We could visit the arcade too. I heard they give out discounts to college students. Maybe we could make some coffee art afterwards?"
You two spent the rest of Cinders break planning out your date for the weekend. It was only when Jay came barging in and demanding for him to come back to work when he said goodbye and hung up the phone.
Lets just say, he was excited for this Saturday.

Ninjago High School. The most populated school in the city that was labeled as a problem school. The “problem” refers to a single individual that mostly everyone at school has agreed to hate.
Lloyd Garmadon. Why? His father was Lord Garmadon. The same man who attacks the school on a weekly basis. You never understood why people would direct their hate for the warlord towards his son. Grown adults blamed a random teenager rather than the problem at hand. Maybe it was easier to put the blame on him.
In contrast, everyone loved the ninja who would protect Ninjago City every time Garmadon attacked. You felt bad for Lloyd, considering how often he'd see the ninjas defeat his father. People went as low to say the ninjas should take care of Lloyd next. He wasn't alone though, he had a lot of support in your brother's small friend group.
You were close with your brother's friends, they all accepted you into their circle with open arms. Nya and Jay were awesome! You became fast friends with them considering how you had a lot in common. Zane was a little hard to read sometimes, but he was hilarious in his own right. You were already familiar with Kai, Cole always had a fiery taste in men.
Lloyd was the most accepting and you found yourself gravitating towards him more. You actually became best friends with Lloyd as the months passed by. You two were inseparable and told each other everything from drama around the school to the latest issue of Starfarer comics. Yes, that series is still going on.
You were both nerds. Nerds who loved to gossip with each other! That's what led you to your conversation now. You two were lounging in your room, Lloyd taking residence on your bed while you sat at your desk. Cole was in his own room with Kai, they were supposedly working on a project but knowing Kai he probably ended up procrastinating it. Poor Cole.
“{N/n}, I know for a fact there's a guy on the basketball team who likes you. I overheard it in my English class.” You rolled your eyes. Yeah right.
“Oh, please. You probably heard wrong. No way one of those guys notice me.” Lloyd let out a small chuckle while sketching out his assignment, like he knew something you didn't. “We’re gonna figure out which one it is. And hey, maybe you'll be interested too.”
“I’d like to see you try.” Lloyd took that as a challenge, and he never backs down from one.
“Alright let me think. Who's first?” Lloyd set his sketchbook down and turned his attention to you,” honestly, that Leon guy seems pretty chill. He’s pretty cute too.”
“Didn't he throw a basketball at you on purpose?” You replied with a raised eyebrow. Lloyd blinked for a moment as if suddenly remembering that fact. He missed but Leon’s intention was clear. It was to hurt Lloyd.
“Oh. That was him? Seriously?”
You rolled your eyes before turning to face him in your chair. “Yeah it was. Frankly, if I were to get a boyfriend, I wouldn't want them to be one of your bullies.”
“Alright so that completely crosses off over half the team as a choice.” You both shared a laugh, it was a sad reality. Everyone in the school seemed to hate Lloyd because of his father. It was unfair but he learned to ignore the people who judge him at first glance. He already had a family who accepted him and saw past his father. Not to mention it was fun occasionally giving someone a piece of your mind when they tried to hurt your best friend.
“Okay, okay. How about Johnny? Or John or whatever his name is.”
“Not my type. Too cocky for my taste. Cole’s the one who's into the flirty type.” Lloyd laughed at your comment. It was true, he saw it every time Cole would lean into Kai’s flirting when they first started going out.
“Hm…What about Kenji?” You froze. Kenji was the captain of the basketball team. Not only was he smart, respectful, and quiet he was completely your type! Not that you ever told anyone. You admired him in silence with the few classes you had together.
Lloyd noticed your silence and smirked wickedly. He got you. “Kenji, huh? I’ll have to admit he's a catch.”
“He’s a really reasonable guy too.”
You and Lloyd both jumped at the addition of a new voice. It was Kai leaning against the doorframe to our room, he had a teasing smile on his face that made you realize he had been listening to everything. For how long? You'd rather not know.
“What do you mean by that?” Your voice was low as you tried to ignore the heat creeping on your face.
“I have a couple classes with Kenji. He’s a little shy but once you get to know him he's pretty cool.” You and Lloyd shared a look before looking back at Kai. Once he had your undivided attention he continued, “I could hook you guys up. A little birdie told me he has a thing for one of the Brookstone twins.”
“I’m guessing that birdie is you?” Lloyd asked sarcastically, already piecing together his friend's plan. Kai shrugged before meeting your gaze. “There's a game tomorrow. Be there and let me handle the rest. Thank me later.” You actually couldn't talk. Things were moving too fast.
“So you're playing matchmaker now?” Lloyd asked with a small smirk as Kai nodded enthusiastically. This was going to be fun for him.
“What's going on here?” Cole stood beside his boyfriend, looking between the three of you suspiciously. “Nothing, babe. Lloyd forgot about his calculus homework and I’m reminding him.”
“Wait, we had calc homework?!” Lloyd quickly stumbled over to his bag to get his work out. You stiffed a laugh as Kai winked at you playfully.
Kai slipped away probably down to the kitchen for a snack as Cole stayed behind for a moment. “You okay?”
His question made you pause. Sometimes you forget how down to Earth your brother is. Ever since you two were kids, he’d always been protective over you. Checking in on a difficult day which you appreciated. You were his twin after all, he believed all twins held a strong bond. You two weren't an exception.
You cleared your throat and nodded. “Yeah, I’m fine. Don't worry about me.”
Cole smiled at your confirmation. “You know I can't.” With that he went downstairs, probably to stop Kai from eating all their snacks. You felt bad for lying to your brother but knowing you’d soon talk to Kenji? Thanks for that Kai!
“Hey, I already did the homework!”
-🪨🐻🪨
The squeaks of sneakers mixed with the cheers of students was something you never become accustomed to. Honestly the only thing you were focused on was Kenji as he moved across the court. You wouldn't admit to a crush right now but something about him really made you want to stare at his face for ages. Maybe run your hand through his hair or kiss his-
“You're staring.” Lloyd’s voice peeped up from your left. Were you that obvious? You cleared your throat, trying to play it off.
“I’m not staring. I’m simply assessing his technique.” You quibbed back, a snort came from Lloyd's other side. “That's the kind of vocabulary Zane usually uses. You're not fooling anyone. No offense buddy.” Morro pat Zane on the back. The latter smiled politely, “I take no offense.”
You rolled your eyes as you went back to watching Kenji. Nya piped up from your right. “If it makes you feel better, he keeps looking over here to catch your eye..” Jay nodded in agreement as he chimed in.
“Yeah, he tried to wave at you but you didn't see it. He got so embarrassed.”
Your heart stopped as the color from your face drained. “What?! When?! Jay, if you're lying to me I swear!”
Everyone shared a collective laugh at your panic. You grumbled quietly and looked back at the game. Surprisingly, you met Kenji’s eye this time. His eyes seemed to light up as he waved at you.
Your eyes soften as you waved back. He was too cute. The others saw your exchange and immediately began to tease you. It took everything in you to not strangle them.
As the game ended, your team winning of course, you all piled outside. Jay and Nya were discussing what they should do for the remainder of the day with Zane who gave them some ideas. You stayed beside Lloyd and his cousin Morro. You recently met him and were taken completely off guard when it was revealed they were related. He was pretty intimidating though, especially when it came to Lloyd’s defense. You got along pretty well so naturally you two became friends.
As you glanced up from your phone, you noticed Kenji walking over to you with Kai.
“{Name}, you know Kenji right?” Kai gestured over to the basketball player who was a blushing mess beside him. You nodded with a small smile of your own, well no shit you knew him.
“He wanted to ask you something.” Kai nudged Kenji, who nodded with an embarrassed expression. It took him a few seconds but he managed to muster out shyly, “I was wondering if you'd want to go to a cafe around here.” You never beamed so fast.
“I’d love to go! Wanna head over right now?” He nodded, his smile softening to a relieved one as if you'd ever say no. You said your goodbyes to your friends as you headed towards the cafe Kenji mentioned. From the distance, however, you failed to notice your brother watching closely as you left.
🪨🐻🪨
You really hated Garmadon sometimes. Not Lloyd of course but his father Lord Garmadon was a different story. He chose to attack on the very day you had the chance to get to know Kenji. The worst part is that you two had so much in common. He was even more perfect than you could imagine. Now you two were running through the city trying not to get killed by Garmadon’s henchmen.
Kenji held your hand as he ran through the city, trying to find a safe zone. You kept an eye open too but the city was in a state of panic to confirm anything. Eventually you both stopped near the park for a breather.
“I think we're safe. The ninja should hopefully defeat Lord Garmadon soon.”
You nodded in agreement, noting how he didn't let go of your hand. “I hope everyone’s okay. I haven't received a message yet from anyone.”
As Kenji squeezed your hand, one of Garmadon’s crab henchmen cornered you two out of nowhere. “You two would make perfect sacrifices for Lord Garmadon.”
Kenji pulled you behind him as he glared at the crab man. You’ve never seen him this angry but you could feel him tense up. He was scared and honestly you weren't far off either. Before the crab mech could grab a hold of either of you, the Earth Ninja’s mech quite literally flung the henchman away. It was kinda funny.
You saw the look of panic in the Earth Ninjas’s eyes through his mask. You guess he was worried he wouldn't make it in time. Before any of you could get a word out, more henchmen appeared around you all. The Earth Ninja in a flash picked both you and Kenji up in one of his mechs arms as he fought.
Both you and Kenji were screaming the entire time as you held each other. Hopefully it didn't distract the Earth Ninja from his job too much.
When the fighting was over, the Earth Ninja lowered you both in an alley just outside the city. You and Kenji were trembling as you got down followed by the Earth Ninja, still holding each other tightly.
“You two okay?” He asked, eyeing you both like he was assessing the way you interacted. You both silently nodded in sync, still a little shaken.
The Earth ninja sighed, you two really did compliment each other. He thought back to what Kai had told him when he confronted him for the match up.
“Give them a chance. You never know what could happen. They could be good for each other.” He hated how right his partner was sometimes.
“{Name}, next time don't fall behind when there's an attack. You could get seriously hurt.” There was a pause between them. The Earth Ninja froze as he realized his mistake. You recognize that soft scolding tone from anywhere.
“How do you know my name? Wait a second-Cole?!”
“Shush! Be quiet!” The Earth Ninja, your brother for goodness sake, whispered in a panic.
“No way! You're one of the ninja? Wait, does that mean everyone else-?” Cole cut you off immediately.
“We’ll talk about this later just get to safety, both of you. Take care of yourselves for my sake...” With that, he hopped on his mech again and left. You caught the small “I’m fucked” that escaped him as he left.
Kenji was still in a state of shock at the revelation, so it was up to you to grab his hand and run out of there before another henchman grabbed you two.
🪨🐻🪨
Dinner was tense when you were at home. You really couldn't help staring at Cole knowing he was one of the ninja. Your brother was one of the most popular people ever! How could you not be happy? Your father paid no mind and blabbered about his day. On a normal day, you'd listen to your father's story.
Today you found out your brother was a ninja.
When dinner was over, you and Cole helped with the dishes. Your brother kept giving you warning glances to not make things obvious but you really couldn't help it. When your father retreated to his room with a goodbye jingle, you headed towards your room with your brother. Now you're sitting on your bed as Cole sat beside you. It was awkward at first but he managed to give you the rundown of everything.
Basically he and the others were all highly acclaimed ninja. They were all chosen by their sensei, Master Wu, to defeat Garamdon as they unlocked their elemental powers. You understood half of it and for your sake of mind you’d try to ask more questions another day.
“Now that I told you my secret, what's going on between you and Kenji?” Cole didn't waste any time. The least he could give you was some breathing room but here you were. Oh well. You sighed as you started to ramble, a nervous habit of yours.
“If you're asking if we're together we're not. I barely started to get to know the guy before Garmadon attacked and frankly he's a really respectable guy. I’d like to get to know him more so-!” Cole nudged your side with a soft chuckle.
“I wouldn't be mad if you were with Kenji. I just want to know if he's treating my twin right. From what I saw today, I’m reassured that's the case.” You winced at his nudge before meeting his gaze again. It was soft, unlike the overbearing one you expected.
“Seriously?” Cole laughed at your surprise. “Yeah, seriously. I trust you, you know that. I only wanted to make sure Kenji wasn't an asshole.” You nudged him back as you both laughed. You really enjoyed your deep sibling talks, it made you feel more connected to him. It was a twin thing.
“Be careful, okay? If Kenji tries anything, tell me. I’ll gladly bury him a couple feet in the ground.” You rolled your eyes with a lighthearted laugh.
“You stole that from Kai.” Cole kissed your forehead before pulling you in a hug. “I paraphrased it.”
You leaned into his bear hug with a relieved sigh. Cole was the best hugger you knew, they always made you feel a lot better afterwards. He held you for a while before letting go and standing up.
“Alright, I’m gonna turn in. Oh, by the way. Tell Kenji to keep it a secret. I already told Lloyd about it so he wanted to meet with you both to go over some rules.”
You snorted at that. You wouldn't be able to take Lloyd seriously as the green ninja now knowing you’ve seen all his embarrassing moments. “Promise. Night!”
Cole bid you goodnight before leaving your room, closing the door behind him. It was weird, knowing your brother and friends were all the coolest people alive. Elemental masters of legends at that. Your phone lit up with a worried text from Kenji asking if you were okay which you happily answered.
You spent the rest of the night texting Kenji. He was pretty surprised himself over the identities of the ninja. His favorite was the Wind Ninja in which he proceeded to send you a photo he took with him a couple months back. You could already imagine Morro’s reluctance for the photo. He was probably coerced into it by the others. Kenji gushed over the ninjas which you found extremely cute. He was a fanboy by heart.
That night, you slept blissfully unaware of the danger you and Kenji were in. If villains were to find out you both knew the identities of the ninja, they would use you two as leverage. For now, that possibility didn't cross your mind. All you could think about was how this experience brought you closer to your found family.
Maybe tomorrow you’d worry about the dangerous stuff.
🍃Synopsis - Morro finally takes {Name} on their first official date. Little does he know, {Name} knows more about his past then he lets on. Redeemed!Morroxf!professor!reader.
W/c - 2.6k
Note - A little angst? Lowkey at the end but its mostly fluff - Morro feels bad about being evil that's most of it - Kai is no help but dw he tries - They're finally making moves on each other✌️✌️
A/n - So I was supposed to post this a couple days ago but the roblox grind couldn't be stopped😞 I was gonna format it the same but I really wanted to use that gif lol - This was supposed to be longer but I didn't want to go days without posting a lot so...ANYWAYS enjoys : D
🍃🦚🍃.
It was no secret Morro had never been on a date before. To the ninjas at least, they knew he was too busy destroying cities and committing war crimes then sitting down for a date. In the past at least. Now he's more approachable. Kai always tells him girls and boys stop to stare at Morro when they walk through campus.
“I’m telling you. They love the look you got going on.” Morro was starting to regret not asking anyone else.
To be fair, he knew the basics of dating and he wasn't completely lost. Did he ever put it into practice? No, not even close. Still he knew a couple of things. Something he forgot to mention to the others. Now Kai thinks he's a poor soul who has no idea how to act or what to wear during a date.
“Kai, I’m not putting that on.”
“What?! Why not? It's a classic with the ladies.”
“For you, maybe.” Morro could only cringe at the outfit Kai had laid out for him. The outfit itself wasn't bad, a simple t-shirt with baggy jeans, but it didn't scream him. The master of fire insisted on helping him pick out what to wear which is why he barged into his room with a pre-planned outfit. Morro’s already regretting this.
“I got it! How about this? We get you a tuxedo! Fancy restaurant date? Who wouldn't dig that?”
Morro rolled his eyes again before heading into his closet while Kai ranted about different high tier restaurants around the city. He pulled out a green letterman jacket, given to him by Cole, and his favorite pair of baggy jeans that he bought with Cole’s money! He didn't steal it of course, Cole had insisted on paying for new clothes for him when they went shopping a couple months back, Morro already decided he'd wear that combination with black t-shirt. Throw in a couple chains here and there, and he felt more like himself.
Kai disagrees. Morro dropped his own clothes over Kai’s which earned a scowl from him.
“Dude seriously? You wear that jacket for school.” Kai argued while picking up the clothes on Morro’s bed. “So? It's comfortable.”
Kai tsked, grabbing his shoulder as he shook his head in disapproval. “You’ve got a lot to learn about the art of fashion.” Morro gave his friend a look of pure annoyance.
“Don't listen to Kai. He only has good advice forty percent of the time when it comes to relationships.” Nya had walked in the room, she had just come back from her jog only to come across her brother trying to sabotage a date. Again.
“What's that supposed to mean?!” Kai exclaimed, offended. Nya raised her eyebrow as she looked over at him. “Do you want me to go into detail about how you almost sabotaged Jay?”
Morro looked over in amusement. Oh he had to hear about this. Kai let out a nervous chuckle, his hand finding its way to rub the back of his neck. “I thought we said not to bring that up-!”
“I wanna know. How’d he fuck that up?” Nya looked over at the wind master with a small smirk. Kai didn't like that one bit.
“Nya-!” But his sister cut him off.
“He gave Jay perfume knowing I was allergic which almost ruined our date. He had to shower like five times to get the scent out since he was so paranoid.” Morro couldn't believe what he was hearing. That was cruel on Kai’s part, even for his standards.
Kai let out a groan as he flopped down on Morro’s bed and lamented. “I was immature back then, okay? Can't a man try and redeem himself?”
Morro and Nya collectively rolled their eyes. The master of dramatics at it again.
Nya looked over at Morro, ignoring her brother’s antics. “Some actual advice for you? Be yourself. I know it's corny but {Name} values honesty.” Nya’s words took him by surprise. He’d been told the same by the others countless times since he went to the arcade with {Name} and discovered he had asked her on a date. They were all surprisingly happy for him now that he’s getting out of his shell more. “Finally! Now you can be a normal adult without worrying about people thinking you're going to turn evil again. Proud of you.” Jay received a firm hit on the back of his head by Nya.
Speaking of, the thing is Nya and {Name} were like sisters. Her words sounded more like scripture rather than questionable advice he received from her brother.
“That means telling her you were responsible for what happened to Stiix.” The way she said it made it seem like she knew more. Maybe she did, he wouldn't put it past her. Although Morro had redeemed himself, courtesy of extensive training and relationship building between the ninja, his past still haunts him and the residents of Stiix.
He hadn't realized how large the damage to Stiix was until recently. Lloyd had shown him an article a few weeks ago about the ruined city. Nowadays, it's gotten better. Survivors who managed to evacuate his main attack were starting to return once their houses were rebuilt. There was a memorial service for those who had lost their lives during the attack. Morro visits the site every week to pay his respects.
Stiix had started a new beginning but the remnants of the past still lingered.
Morro could only nod, his eyes shifting towards Kai as he began to once again try and convince him where to take {Name}. Nya gave him one final look before walking out of his room, her expression was hard to read and that wasn't because he refused to look at her directly. As Kai rambled on, his phone lit up with a message he couldn't deny the smile that spread across his face.
Ms. Pretty
I can't wait for tomorrow :)
-🍃🦚🍃
The fair was a blast. From games, rides, and food there were a ton of options so nobody got bored. {Name} loved fairs because she always got so competitive during the games. Morro understood that fact quickly back at the arcade, his losing streak still hasn't been broken sadly. It was quite endearing.
As {Name} won her sixth game and shoved another plushie into his arms she cracked her knuckles.“We should name them all, don't you think?”
Morro rolled his eyes, a fond smirk on his lips. “Surely you're not going to win every stuffed animal in this place.” {Name} laughed, she had thought about it. She’ll go easy on him this time around.
“Not this time. But don't doubt my abilities.”
“Won't dream of it, ms. pretty.”
Eventually, the fair started to die down so they decided it was time to head back. {Name} had won a wagon during a raffle near the end of their visit. The wagon was fine for a second place prize but what she was really gunning for was the first place prize of a giant panda stuffed animal. Morro was ready to faint if she had actually gotten lucky but they agreed the wagon wasn't that much of a loss. As Morro dragged along the wagon with their plushie friends, they traveled through a nearby park.
The park was peaceful at this hour. {Name} said she often visited it during this time after a stressful day of grading papers or attending faculty meetings.
“Hopefully I didn't do too awful on my paper.” Morro said sheepishly as he walked alongside her. She laughed before stopping at a bench and sitting down. {Name} pat the space beside her, glancing at the plushies once more to make sure they were all still there. She was very protective over her new friends.
“I won't spoil anything. What I can say is that it's pretty good for someone who's never attended a college class before.” The compliment made Morro giddy. It meant a lot since he didn't know what he was doing for most of it. Zane had to read it around three times before he felt confident enough to turn it in. He joined her on the bench as they looked out at the park. The sun was close to setting, the sight itself was beautiful. It was one of the things Morro came to cherish as he started rebuilding his life.
{Name} let out a small breath like she was holding it for a while. “You know, it's been so long since I’ve been able to watch the sunset. I forgot how peaceful it is.”
Morro let out an acknowledging hum. He turned his head to look at her. “Why’s that?”
“I used to live in Stiix. Before it was nearly destroyed. We were the first town to see the sunset and sunrise everyday.”
Oh.
“I should also mention I know it was you who attacked the city.”
Oh shit.
Morro could only stare at {Name}, who was blissfully watching the scene ahead of them. She didn't seem angry, that was good. Although, he wouldn't blame her if she was angry with him. He had nearly succeeded in awakening a force from another realm to rule over Ninjago. Nearly wiping out a town in the process.
Morro shifted in his seat to face her. His throat tightened for a few seconds before managing to spit out, “I’ll understand if you decide to hate me.”
{Name}’s hands were balled into fists above her knees. That wasn't a good sign. “I should be angry. My family was lucky enough to be one of the first to be evacuated. If they had been any later to evacuate, I don't want to think about what would've happened.”
Morro faced forward in his seat. His silence was his only form of comfort for her. The damage done to Stiix was huge, he knew that. Knowing what he had done with the length of damage there grounded him in the reality of his redemption. It brings him back to his conversation with Wu the same day he was defeated.
“I’m offering you a path to the light, but never forget your past. It's what will shape you into becoming a better man, a better elemental master.”
He wouldn't blame {Name} if she decided to end their date here. Never talk to him again or hell even give him an F on his paper. He wouldn't be surprised if she kicked him out of her class and got a restraining order. Nya would definitely kick his ass for screwing everything up. As he mentally prepared himself for a slap in the face, {Name} finally looked up at him
She was smiling. Kai did not warn him about smiling before getting backhanded.
“Like I said, I should be angry,” she carefully took his hands in hers and squeezed them. The gesture seemed more like she was comforting him instead of herself, “but I’ve seen how you’ve grown since then. Kai’s told me all about how you’ve been adapting to life. How you’ve paid respects to those who died.”
Morro could only stare at the girl in front of him. How was she so calm about this? Cole had taught him a lot about empathy. He knew what it was, duh, it was surprising to see it in person. Especially since he had already come to terms that everyone affected by his attack would hate him forever. Now here's this woman who had no intention of loathing him at all. Also how did Kai know about his visits to Stiix?
{Name} continued noting his silence and hoping she hadn't caused a malfunction in his brain, “You're starting a new beginning, right? I want to be a part of it. I’ve known the ninja for a while and the way they describe your dedication shows you want to change. In class I’ve seen it too. You’ve adapted to your second chance pretty well.”
Morro choked. He didn't know what to say. He wanted to pour out his heart right then and there. How her smile was a reason he’s still going. How her laugh lifted his spirits when he was having a stressful day. How he loved hearing her lectures because hearing her talk about something so passionately made his heart beat twice as fast. How sorry he was for causing her and hundreds of people pain. How she was a reason he wanted to change.
Maybe on the third date.
They both shared a laugh after Morro recovered. He squeezed her hands, not too willing to let go yet. “If it means seeing you more often, I don't mind. I want to make up for my mistakes. For the people I hurt.”
{Name} gently cupped his cheek, “You're off to a good start. Tell me more about it on our second date,” she kissed his cheek before standing up again, “now c’mon. Let's call it a day before the others think you went rogue again.”
{Name} snorted at her own joke before starting down the trail again. Morro was left sitting there stunned as his face burned up. His heart was beating too fast for his liking. Recovering from his shock, he quickly stood and dragged the wagon with him to catch up to her. His thoughts scrambled in his head from the possibility of another date to the kiss.
Wait, does this mean she agreed to a second date?
Morro knew he still had a lot of work to do. He still hadn't made an appearance as an actual ninja yet but sensei Wu said he was very close too. He wanted people to trust him as a savior, the way they trusted his friends. Not everyone would be as forgiving as {Name} or willing to give him a second chance. He had to come to terms with those odds and preserve through it. It would be difficult, yet Morro found himself up for the challenge knowing he'd be supported along the way.
He’d never admit that last part out loud though.
.🍃🦚🍃
When Morro arrived back at the monastery, after dropping off {Name} with her new selection of friends at her apartment, he was sure the others would corner him for details about his evening. Surprisingly, it was only Lloyd who he was faced with in the foyer.
Lloyd greeted him, “Hey, welcome back.”
“Hey.”
Silence followed between the two. Morro knew it was because Lloyd was still awkward around him. To be fair, he did possess his body when he was a ghost and made him fight his friends. Lloyd was getting better at being around him at least, he's been helping with Morro’s training and seems more comfortable around him. It's only when they're alone when he finds himself catching that lingering tension between them.
“The others wanted to camp out here and smother you about what happened on your date. I told them it's better to ask in the morning.”
“I figured they would do that. I have some space to clear my head at least.” Morro chuckled as he put his hair up while removing his shoes. Lloyd nodded, he hesitated for a moment before speaking up again.
“I’m glad you're understanding what it means to live. My uncle’s already proud of your progress. I’m sure in the next few months, you’ll learn what it means to be a ninja.” With that Lloyd turned to leave, throwing out one final wave. Morro returned the wave before walking back to his room.
He’d always wanted to be a ninja when he was younger when Wu first offered him the chance. He regretted how easily he was blinded by power in his early years. It was one of the many things he was ashamed of so that's why he planned to make up for those incidents. Morro made a silent promise to himself to embody the way of the ninja. For real this time.
As he reached his room he flopped down on his bed, finally. Getting his phone he threw one last text {Name} before turning in for the night.
Ms. Pretty
Next time, I should be the one kissing you.

"Mom, I asked for the salt.”
“And what's the magic word?”
“The salt.”
Garmadon’s lips curved up as he listened to his wife and son bicker, his tea and sandwich long forgotten. His wife, {Name}, beautiful as she is, was also a prankster herself. Lloyd inherited his sense of humor from his mother after all.
It reminded him of his youth when he first met {Name}. Of course, she would play endless pranks and jokes on him as well. It's one of the first instances he’d truly noticed her. Where he realized she didn't irritate him as much as the others.
Lloyd had suggested a picnic for them. A nice family gets together in an open field beside Ninjago City away from ninja training or Garmadon’s own work as a teacher. {Name} was always free when it came to her family so she didn't mind canceling her plans to go. Her own students could wait when it came to her family. Yes, she loved her students, don't worry.
He was guessing Lloyd was starting to regret choosing a picnic as an outing by how smothered he felt.
“C’mon Lloyd, I taught you better manners than that.” {Name} teased as their son rolled his eyes fondly.
“Fine. May I please have the salt.”
“Of course you may, after your father.” Lloyd rightfully groaned, throwing his head back as his shoulders slumped. Garmadon let a chuckle slip from his lips. It's times like these where he felt blessed to be a part of.
It made him feel more human.
As they settled into eating their sandwiches, curtsy of the ice ninja, {Name} looked over at their son. “Would you pass me another tea bag?”
“What's the magic word?” Lloyd tried to tease his mother back smugly. Like mother like son they say.
“Son, listen to your mother.” Garmadon’s voice was firm, the one he used around his students while instructing. Lloyd begrudgingly passed his mother a tea bag, her triumphant smile on full display.
As they settled once again, Garmadon took her hand, his thumb tracing her inner wrist above her soulmate mark. It was a simple design that was funnily enough his oni form. What he believed to be an omen for his future, turned out to be a way towards the woman who he planned to love for the rest of his life.
{Name} smiled fondly at the way he caressed her mark. A habit she found him doing out of comfort when he was truly in a state of peace. They both lifted their eyes to meet each other’s gaze, a small understanding passed between the two. I’m here. I love you.
Their son could only look between them in confusion. He had heard how the whole soulmate mark worked. One person was born with a tattoo mark on their wrist that's meant to represent their soulmate. Whatever that meant.
He also knew his parents were yin and yang. A promise couples, usually soulmates, made when they found a balance between one another. Lloyd’s own soulmate mark was of a dragon. What that meant for him, he’d found out soon enough.
Lloyd looked between his parents before quickly snatching the salt from his father's side. That earned another chuckle from Garmadon and a small glare from {Name}. As he added some salt to his fries, he looked up at them.
“So, you never told me the story of the whole soulmate mark thing.” His parents looked between each other before looking back at Lloyd.
“There's not much to say. For us at least, we found each other naturally.” Garmadon took a sip of his tea only for his wife to snort beside him.
“Naturally? You avoided me because you thought the mark meant you’d kill me.” Garmadon choked on his tea.
“Only because I had no idea what a soulmate mark was. Yours was intricate.” He tried to defend himself only to find his wife rolling her eyes at him, albeit fondly. “Knowing who your father is, I'm surprised he didn't tell you.”
Lloyd looked between them, more curiously. “Seriously? How did you guys, you know, get together then?”
“Are you sure that's the story you want to hear?” {Name} asked with a teasing tone in her voice.
“Don't start, mom.”
Garmadon let out a thoughtful hum. His son was old enough to hear a bit of their story. “I suppose it's time we let you in on the story of our mark..”
“We’ll be here all day if you do. Just get to the part where you asked me to be your yin.” Garmadon shook his head fondly at his wife's words.
“Alright. I’ll start with that. Fair warning though, it's a quick one.” He took {Name}’s hand as he turned to Lloyd, who was already focused on his every word with a cup of tea, and began to recount the day he made an everlasting promise to his soulmate.
🪼🐚☀️
“Brother, the mark doesn't mean certain doom for you or {Name}. Like she said, it's a soulmate mark. She is your soulmate.”
Garmadon couldn't fathom another word his brother was saying. He couldn't believe his mark, the one that ties him to his soulmate, was an oni. He thought it was the end for them both. A curse that started with the darkness inside him.
His father had tried to calm his nerves by saying it was a different kind of prophecy, not an omen. He ran a hand through his hair as he sat on his bed, his frustration growing.
“Enough, Wu. Leave me alone.” But his brother was persistent. Or should he say, {Name} was persistent. The latter now taking Wu’s place in knocking on his door.
“Garmadon, you come out here right now.” His supposed soulmate called out from his door. Usually, he'd get angry enough to force them away. However, knowing {Name} was outside the door didn't irritate him as much.
“{Name}, give him a moment. You know how my brother gets his temper.”
{Name} clicked her tongue. “Then I’ll knock some sense into him. I’m breaking this door down.” With that she turned and left the house. Wu could only watch her hoping she didn't mean that in a literal sense. Hopefully.
Garmadon, still sulking on his bed, hadn't heard the conversation outside his door. He waited for a few minutes before getting up from his bed and walking towards the door to open it. Once he opened it, he was only greeted with Wu’s anxious expression.
“Did you trick me?” The master of destruction asked in annoyance, his glare locked onto his brother. “I didn't! Honest! {Name} said something about 'knocking some sense into you?’” Wu seemed more scared for his brother rather than his soulmate. Knowing {Name}, understandable.
Garmadon pushed past his brother with what sounded like a snarl that came from deep within. He quickly ran out of his house and down the streets of the town. Thankfully, {Name} was still in the process of walking towards her house when he approached.
Taking a hold of her wrist, he spun her around. The action itself surprised himself more than it did for {Name}. He pulled her away from the streets into a quiet alley for some privacy between the soulmates. Sensing she’d fight him off, he spoke first. “You know what will happen to me if the darkness inside me takes over.”
Maybe that was a little too blunt.
{Name} blinked, processing his words as her eyes softened. She took a small step back, giving them space but he found his hand tightening around her wrist. Not willing to let go just yet. “I know. I know about the darkness and yet,” she paused, her free hand to cup his cheek, “all I see is the man I’m destined with by fate, struggling with overcoming a prophecy he didn't choose. The darkness he didn't choose.”
Her words shocked him for a moment. Not many people knew about how the darkness inside him came to be. They only assumed he was born like that. He never cares to correct them. So why does his soulmate see the truth so clearly? Noticing his silence, she continued.
“It pains me to see you this way. You may think our future is filled with some catastrophe, but we shouldn't let it. We won't. Whatever life throws at us, let's overcome it together. Please, Garmadon.”
Her words hit him directly in his heart. For a moment, he forgot there was evil flowing through his blood. He wanted to make this woman his wife. Was it too soon for that?
He looked down at her again, his eyes searched hers as he leaned in. She noticed what he was trying to do before smiling and meeting him half way as their lips met.
The kiss, their first, was gentle but she could tell he was holding back by how his hand twitched on his wrist. She kissed him like it was the most natural thing in the world while he tried to keep up without seeming lost. His hands slid down to grip her hips to pull her closer, an audible gasp coming escaping her.
He only held back because they were still in public. That's what he told himself at least.
Eventually, they broke the kiss, their breaths mingling together blissfully. What came out of his mouth next, he blamed on adrenaline.
“Be my ying.”
“What?” {Name} snorted, the sound was endearing to him. “My father told me that soulmates usually partake in the tradition-” {Name} cut him off with a peck to his lips.
“I know what you mean. It's just that most people usually have a grand gesture for this kind of thing.” Garmadon’s lips curved into a soft smirk.
“Good thing we're not like most people.” With that, they shared another kiss. It was more passionate than their last one. He couldn't help but let slip a groan when she pulled at his hair. {Name} couldn't help herself and pulled away to blow air on his face. If he’d known better, she did that to cool down the heat in his face. The prankster she was.
“I’ll be your ying, Garmadon.”
🪼🐚☀️
“That's it? Seriously? No declaration of love you just asked mom on the street?”
Both Garmadon and {Name} both laughed at their son's bewilderment. They knew their story wasn't a traditional one with grand gestures but it's what made their story unique.
“I told you it was a quick story.” Garmadon chuckled at his son's expression.
“You know, if I ever need advice for meeting my soulmate I’ll come straight to you dad.” {Name} laughed at Lloyd’s playful comment.
“I’d give you the best advice for any situation you're in. You know my own personal experience for credibility.” Laughter followed his retort as the family found themselves reminiscing on both the past and their possible future.
{Name} handed Lloyd some fruits as an apology which he happily accepted. “It's a nice story. I guess I imagined it was more…spontaneous? Flamboyant? Excessive?”
“Those words have never been used to describe your father.” They all shared a laugh together as they ate their sandwiches and drank their tea. It appeared this picnic was a nice way to wind down.
Lloyd munched down on his fruits as the birds chirped around them. {Name} drank her tea, the same one she somehow nearly finished throughout his story. Garmadon breathed in the air, taking in the realness of the moment. His eyes drifted off to the distance where the city his son protected stood tall, unmoving. He liked knowing they had structure in their life. It's what he dreamed of when he was younger and in a darker state of mind.
That was of course before he managed to fully grasp his feelings for {Name}.
The moment was peaceful. A peace that he hoped to keep. As he traced the oni mark on {Name}’s wrist, he grounded himself. In the life they created within their son and the life they planned to live in the future.
“When you find your soulmate, I’d like to hear all about how you confessed your undying love to them.”
“Mom, please stop.”

☀️🪼🐚
The incense burning had a faint scent of wood to it. You blew on the stick gently, setting it on its stand. You weren't picky among the ones given to you inside the monastery. Yet you found yourself burning through the sandalwood weekly, much to Mr. Frohicky’s confusion.
The scent comforted you. It reminded you of him. A man you loved and lost.
☀️🪼🐚
Before the merge, Cinder and you were close. Living in a small village just outside the city, you two grew up inseparable. You remember it clearly, how he would dream of becoming an elemental master one day.
“You’ll see! I’m gonna be unstoppable!” He’d say that all the time as kids. You weren't an elemental master or related to one so you had your sights set on other things. It didn't stop you from listening to Cinder’s dreams though.
“That's so cool! Has your uncle given you his power yet?”
“No! Not yet! That's besides the point!”
As you grew into your teens, he had been passed down the mantle of elemental Master of Smoke from his uncle Ash. You found out in the middle of the night when he appeared outside your window through a gust of smoke. He’s lucky his reflexes were fast or else he would've gotten whacked by your bat.
He began his training with his uncle Ash soon after. On your free days, you would come over to watch as he trained. Cinder loved seeing you during his training, something his uncle noticed quickly.
“Careful, Cinder. I see you're more distracted when {Name} is around.”
“Am not! I’m just making sure she's watching!”
It was cute seeing Cinder’s face turn bright red whenever his uncle teased him. Ash was fond of you as well and would let you come watch Cinder for his training. He never failed to make you feel involved as you were an important person for Cinder, as much as he denied it.
Eventually as you grew into young adults, he officially became a master of his element. It was during this time he finally found the guts to confess to you, with helpful guidance from his uncle.
“You’ll lose her if you keep her waiting any longer. Who knows, another knight and shining armor might swoop in because you were too slow.” He’d whack Cinder across his head to make sure his point got across his nephew's head. Thankfully once was enough.
He led you to a clearing of flowers one evening, the sight was so breathtaking for you. The small village you both grew up in could be seen clearly in the distance. Cinder took both your hands in his, everything about his expression screamed “nervous” as he held your gaze.
“I want you by my side, {N/n}. If you’ll have me, please.”
“You already do, Cinder.”
You remember that's where you shared your first kiss. He was so happy you didn't outright reject him his first instinct was to cup your cheek and lean in. In the middle of it, he used his element to manifest behind you. With his arms around your waist he lifted you in the air as you laughed, marking the moment you two began a new chapter in your life.
A shame it ended shortly after that.
The merge came as quickly as it ended. He had tried to find you, his family was gone and the only person he could think of to save was you. When he used his smoke to maneuver through the town he landed by the same clearing he had confessed just months prior. You were relieved to see him, running as fast as you could to reach him before the merge sucked you in.
Tragically, the force of the merge pulled you before you reached him. The only thing you remember from that day was his distant cry.
“I’ll come find you!”
Still waiting, Cinder.
You landed in what you knew now as The Land of Monsters. Like the name suggestive, the place was crawling with monsters waiting to eat you. All you could do was hide and run as you tried desperately to find an exit.
One monster had cornered you in a cave with no way out. Thinking it was the end, you shut your eyes and sank to the floor. Fortunately, a red ninja came to your rescue by scaring off the beast with his fire.
“You okay? That was a close one, wasn't it?” He asks with a lighthearted chuckle offering you a hand up. How can he be so calm in a place like this?!
You took his hand and nodded. “Yeah, no kidding. I’m {Name}.” As he lifted you up he gave you a look over.
“Name’s Kai. Before you ask, no I don't know how to get out of here and yes I am the master of fire!.” He then proceeded to light up a flame from his free hand. You laughed and agreed to his help, you’d definitely need it.
“Mind if I stick with you then? I’d rather not get eaten by a monster before finding out what this place is.”
“Yeah, same here. Don't worry, I’ll protect you. Think of me as your knight in shining armor…Or, ninja armor.” His words made you laugh, despite the danger you were in. From that point on, Kai really did become your savior.
For the sake of survival, you stuck to his side to avoid getting eaten by beasts at every turn. It took a few months of repeating the same formula of running and fighting when you found a gigantic ship that he recognized.
“Destiny's Bounty! Oh we’re saved!” You laughed at his enthusiasm as he flopped onto the floor.
You remained at his side after that, eventually meeting his friends and family along the way.
“{Name}?”
Your daydreaming was interrupted as you turned around to see Nya by the door.
She noticed the incense you were burning and gave you a sympathetic smile. She was the only one you had confided to about Cinder so she knew what he meant to you.
“We’ve got another mission from the source dragon. Long story short, we need to enter this competition to uncover who’s been attacking the dragons. You think you’ll be fine staying here?”
You walked over to her, a small sigh escaping you. You know she’s been going through a lot after Kai was lost to time. It was a big blow to you as well. Your first friend after the merge, gone just like that.
“I’ll be fine here. I’m sure Mr. Frohicky won't mind the extra pair of hands helping him.” She nodded with a small tender smile, giving you a firm hug.
“When you find the time, visit the Cloud Kingdom. They could have information on Cinder.”
All you could really do was nod as you focused on the lingering scent of scandal wood in the air as you returned the water ninja’s hug.
☀️🪼🐚
The Cloud Kingdom was under attack. It had been a few days since the ninja left for the tournament and the one day you had some free time to visit this place it gets attacked! Mr. Frohicky had you working nonstop at the monastery, you didn't mind the work but it meant less time trying to find any traces of Cinder.
You were in one of the Cloud Kingdom’s many libraries with a Cloud Monk when you heard the sound of unmistakable fighting from outside. You ran towards the sound, to do what exactly…you’d figure it out when you got there.
Running outside you were met with the ninja again. Surprisingly Kai was among them with the familiar red gi you grew fond of. How he was here was a mystery to you but you’d figure it out later! You're happy to see your friend again.
Your focus soon shifted towards the man he was fighting. He was avoiding Kai’s attack with…smoke?
“I heard there’s a new elemental Master of Smoke. You know I thrashed the last one, right?” Kai lit up a flame in his hand as he charged at his opponent who disappeared in a cloud of smoke, again?!
He reappeared again only for Kai to surprise him from behind. “Boo.”
It wasn't a mistake or a trick of the light. That was Cinder. Your Cinder. He was fighting your friends and by the looks of it wasn't stopping any time soon. He kept on fighting your friends as you watched in disbelief. You had to stop this!
Finding your voice again you screamed, “Cinder!”
His grey eyes found yours, and he froze. You're here. Should he feel happy? A part of him was relieved but he didn't know what the other lingering feeling was. Ras had told him to let go of his past to find power in the present. Any lingering feelings he had would only get in the way.
So that's what he did. He imagined the merge killed you when it first happened. It put him at ease knowing you were dead instead of living with the fact he broke his promise. Safe to say you weren't dead after all.
Taking advantage of his distraction, Kai surprised him with another fire ball. “{Name}! Get out of here!”
Oh. So it was like that, huh?
Cinder appeared behind you through a cloud of smoke, holding you hostage with a knife at your throat.
“Let her go!” Kai yelled, trying to fend off some other lackeys. Nya quickly supplied her support trying to get to you.
“Why? So you can have her?”
Cinder held you firmly as you struggled. He backed you away from the fight for a bit of privacy. Under different circumstances, he’d kiss you senseless now that he’s found you. These aren't those circumstances.
“Cinder it's me! {Name}! Your {N/n}, remember?! Those are my friends, please just stop-!” He turned you around to face him, cutting you off. He had a playful expression, way too playful in a situation like this for your liking.
“I said I’d find you didn't I? Too bad I’m stuck in this job to reconcile with you.” His humor was not appreciated in the slightest.
“You found me! So stop fighting my friends. I don't know what your grudge against them is but we can sort it out right?” You cupped his face in hopes of reminding him you were still with him.
It shocked him with how clueless you were to the gravity of his situation. He was different now, couldn't you see? He didn't welcome distractions on missions. Looking over at where Ras was watching him hold you, he knew what his master wanted as Ras’ words echoed in his mind. Let her go. She’s nothing to you now.
He glanced over your shoulder before meeting your gaze once again. “Forget about me, {N/n}. You chose your path by siding with the ninja.”
“What are you talking about?!” He wasn't making sense and you hated that. You hated what he was implying. Not again. Not after I finally found you.
“He’ll keep you safe. Stay away from Ras.”
Before you could ask what the hell he meant by that he pushed you forward for you to land in Kai’s arms. The fire ninja held you securely while glaring at Cinder. You looked back at your former lover as he returned it with an apologetic one of his own.
The rest of the fight was a blur, Kai didn't leave your side even as you all made your escape. His hand was on yours firmly, refusing to let you go again.
Cinder’s words replayed in your head as you left the Cloud Kingdom back to the monastery. Nya was the first to rush you in a hug.
“{Name}, I’m so sorry! I should've told you sooner who Cinder was! He was at the Tournament of Sources with Ras. You wouldn't believe it he-!” She was cut short by her brother.
“C’mon sis. Give her a break. Its better we discuss this later.” You were thankful for Kai’s intervention. Anymore news and you’d probably explode. Nya gave you one final squeeze before letting you go to let Kai accompany you back to your room.
His hand rested on your back as he guided you. On another day, you'd probably tease him about his protectiveness. Today you were too tired to register his intimate gesture.
You didn't even make it back to your room when you started to sob. Cinder had left you. He chose to work with the same villains who were hurting your friends. What happened to the Cinder who was excited to be his uncle's successor. It was all a distant memory now.
“Why would he leave me?”
“It's what happened to some people after the merge. They chose a different path from the rest of us.”
Kai held you in his arms for a long time after that, his warmth comforting as you broke down. He rubbed your back silently, knowing what you needed right now was a good cry.
As you cried in the empty hallway, your thoughts lingered on the fight. All you could recall was the faint scent of wood radiating off of the master of smoke. The same scent that you now associate with the man you once loved and now lost.

A/n - Again I'm so sorry this is so late! I tried my best again so hopefully this came out how you wanted :D
🪼🐚☀️
It wasn't talked about among the citizens, but the air over Ninjago City was dim. After the loss of the Titanium Ninja, Zane, the city entered a state of sorrow. Thanks to Zane’s sacrifice, the Overlord was defeated for good at the cost of a brave and compassionate ninja.
The citizens mourned for a week. The mayor gave a speech, honoring Zane’s sacrifice at his memorial statue. It’s the least they could do being able to live another day. Eventually though, it was time for reconstruction plans to start for the city.
You, on the other hand, still mourned Zane. The city might've moved on but you missed your friend, your brother. You were much older than the ninja, so they always viewed you as an older sister like how you viewed them as younger brothers. The remaining ninja also shared your pain. Kai was more frustrated with the city by how fast they seemed to brush off Zane’s death. You tried to tell him it wasn't a matter of “brushing off”, the city needed urgent repairs as soon as possible. He was too irritated to care.
To avoid the ninja going rouge you took it upon yourself to keep the team together. You also took the liberty to lead clean up procedures around the city. You didn't quit as a ninja, but you devoted most of your time to city repairs. That became harder after every argument they had. It was unfortunate you all split the way you did.
Kai was the first to leave, deciding it was best to express his anger inside an underground fighting ring. Jay left not long after Cole. The two were already on bad terms and couldn't stand each other despite your guidance. From what Lloyd told you, Cole became a lumberjack to your surprise. You couldn't imagine Cole up in the trees when his element had to do with the earth. You’d watch Jay’s game show from time to time whenever you had down time. Nya had devoted her time to her mechs so she wasn't around as often as you'd hoped. You still made time to visit her which she greatly appreciated.
P.I.X.E.L was your main concern. She had gotten closer to Zane since you met her. The two shared a heart after all. His death impacted her the most as she disappeared not long after Zane’s funeral. Wherever she is, you wished her the best.
The only person who remained was Lloyd, helping you with any ninja work around the city.
The green ninja, or golden ninja now, had always been like a son to you. When the ninja had first taken in Lloyd as a child, you remember fondly how he had accidentally called you “mom” one evening during dinner. It was an adorable scene, he was red faced trying to defend himself and deny what he called you while everyone at the table teased him.
Wu had pulled you aside shortly after the dinner.
“If only my brother were here to witness that. He’d see how much Lloyd’s come to appreciate you.” His words warmed your heart.
Lloyd wasn't your son, yet you found yourself giving him that name with how much he clinged to you as a child. After the tomorrow's tea incident, Lloyd had gotten older but still viewed you as his mom. He had asked if it was okay to keep calling you to which you responded, “You can call me whatever you want son.”
In addition to helping around in the city, you helped Garmadon at his school of martial arts for youths. It was a nice hobby considering he had sworn off all violence after all the evil inside him vanished.
The kids he trained grew to love you since your methods of teachings weren't as strict as Garmadons. You both got closer as a result, he busied himself with his teachings while you dropped by to pour in some wisdom whenever you could.
He liked having you around too as he was going through a lot as well. Misako had previously divorced him, which took a toll on him on top of Zane’s death. Lloyd had confided in you that he was also struggling to process their split to which you promised to help in any way you could.
One day after a routine day of cleaning up debris off the sidewalk Lloyd had approached you. He looked tired, both physically and mentally, you didn't blame him.
“It’s my fault everyone around us keeps disappearing.” You couldn't believe what he was saying. He really blamed himself, didn't he? He already had to shoulder the world's responsibilities, you refused to let him shoulder any for the ninja’s separation.
“Lloyd, you listen to me. Everyone has different ways at processing grief. Jay? Cole? Kai? They need their space, that's all. Even your parents need space moving forward. You have absolutely nothing to do with it.” With a hand on his shoulder you consoled him. He seemed to understand, but you could tell he wanted to argue further.
Instead he settled with, “Thanks, mom,” which was more than enough for you.
🪼🐚☀️
It was nearly sunset when you arrived at Garmadon’s school. You had no idea where he got the funds to open it but decided not to think about much. As you approached the entrance Misako was exiting the monastery, and by the looks of it she was in a hurry.
You greeted her politely, as always. It wasn't a secret to either of you that she harbored some resentment towards you. You had taken the role of a mother figure for Lloyd while not on purpose it still bothered her that he found more solace in you then his actual mother. She dismissed your greeting and walked right past you, rude.
As you walked inside, setting aside Misako’s impudence, Garmadon had his students in pairs practicing stances. When the kids saw you approach, they cheered.
“{Name}!”
“Check out this new move I learned!”
“{Name}, are you here to see us train again?”
“Any words of wisdom?”
“{Name} are you here to see Sensei Garmadon?”
You chuckled lightly at their questions while Garmadon banged his staff on the ground. “Resume your stances.” His voice was firm but you could hear an underlying tone of softness in it. Still, Garmadon wasn't someone to anger so his students quickly resumed their stances much to their dismay.
As you approached Garmadon, he nodded politely keeping an eye on his students to make sure their stances were in sync.
“Good to see you again, {Name}.”
“Likewise, Sensei Garmadon.” You teased, your gaze shifting towards his students. One of them had accidentally lost balance and quickly recovered to avoid getting called out. Garmadon noticed, of course, yet surprisingly chose not to comment on it.
“I’ve told you, just Garmadon is fine. You don't need to be so formal.” You laughed at his dismissal. Your eyes glanced back at him. It was hard to believe he used to be an overpowered oni lord. He looked more peaceful now.
“Lloyd let it slip that he calls you mom. Did you know that?” He asks, suddenly looking over at you. You pause for a moment before letting a small laugh escape you.
“Yes, I do. He’s been calling me that since he was child. I don't mind it. Besides, I call him my son so there isn't any awkwardness between us.” Garmadon took a moment to ponder your words. A small smile then spread across his lips as he regarded you fondly.
“That's lovely. It's been difficult for him ever since Zane passed. I believe he needs guidance. They all do. I’m glad we have someone like you.” Your face momentarily flushed at his words. Garmadon really had a way with words..
Garmadon chuckled at your expression. You were easy to talk to. He admired how attentive you were to his students and son, finding it nice that Lloyd leaned on you during a challenging time for the ninja. He placed a hand on your shoulder, his students for now forgotten.
“You're a part of this family. I want us to stick together throughout this new chapter. For Lloyd and for the ninja.” You sensed the seriousness of his words and nodded firmly. You knew what he was saying was true, the ninja needed all the help they could get.
“You don't mind me coming around more often then?”
“Not at all. You're welcome here anytime you’d like. My students want you to show them some of your power moves’. It’s about time they see a real ninja in action.” Garmadon couldn't help but let his hand linger on your shoulder as he teased you. It's strange how you didn't mind in the slightest.
“{Name} was here to see sensei! Not fair!” That caught Garmadon’s attention.
“Fighting stances. Hurry up, now. Before {Name} decides she doesn't want to demonstrate for you all.” His students let out a series of audible gasps as they scrambled into their fighting stances all the while you grinned in delight.
🪼🐚☀️
Your relationship with Garmadon grew as the days passed. You frequented his monastery more as city repairs came to end. Seeing his students improve really reminded you of how Wu managed to train the ninja. Being significantly older than them, you had already gone through Wu’s intense training. To avoid his wrath, you helped him train the ninja as well. Offering advice to their sensei’s complex lessons. It brought a smile to your face seeing them all have more control over their powers.
Lloyd would sometimes accompany you to Garmadon’s monastery when his students left. He didn't want to distract the kids by showing up as the golden ninja and causing them to freak out because of his presence. Instead you all decided to have late night chats over a cup of tea.
On one of these nights, Garmadon prepared a stash of tea that he borrowed (stole) from Wu. The three of you sat at the kitchen table, Lloyd was across from you as you sat next to Garmadon. The golden ninja was discussing his plan of getting the team back together with a new teammate this time.
Garmadon seemed skeptical of the idea while you were hesitant. You didn't like the idea of bringing in another teammate. In your opinion, it was too soon after Zane.
“I’m not sure, Lloyd. Getting the team back together is one thing but recruiting someone else? I think it's too ambitious.” You took a sip of your tea. Garmadon letting out a thoughtful hum beside you as if to agree.
“I know it isn't ideal. But we need structure in the team again. We need the team back together, mom.”
“Mom? Is that what you call her now?”
The addition of a new voice made you all turn towards the doorway. Misako was standing there, her stern gaze firmly on you. Lloyd internally panicked about what he unintentionally implied with calling you mom. He sat up stuttering out a response at the same time you tried to defend him.
“N-No that's not what I-!”
“He was only trying to-!”
With a loud creak from his chair Garmadon stood up meeting his ex-wife's glare, cutting off the two of you and potentially saving yourselves from making the situation worse. He placed a hand on your arm as if to say I’ll handle this.
“Misako, did you need something?” His voice was calm compared to the responses you and Lloyd tried to stumble out.
Misako didn't answer him for a moment. Her eyes locked on her ex-husband's hand on your arm. She wasn't stupid, she knew you two had formed a connection ever since Zane’s passing. She had thought you’d busied yourself with any services the city needed as a ninja like her son did.
Looks like that wasn't the case.
Seeing her ex-husband interact with you in such an intimate way reminded her of how they used to act before they married. She didn't like where this was going.
When she finally looked up at Garmadon again, her voice was flat. “I’m only here to tell you that I’ll be on an expedition with Wu soon. We’ll be gone for a couple months so Wu asked me to inform you.”
Garmadon nodded as Lloud began to ask her about the expedition. She briefly explained it had something to do with an artifact found deep in the desert that needed recovering.
Garmadon’s hand left your shoulder to instead hold your hand under the table. He gave it a small squeeze to ground you in the moment. You were comforted by his gesture and gave him a squeeze back. When you offered her some tea she declined, albeit dismissively.
“Good luck, Lloyd. I’ll see you once we’re back.” Lloyd returned the sentiment as he approached her for a hug. After that, she left without a single glance back at you or Garmadon. Let alone a goodbye. An hour had passed when Lloyd turned to you both, something about leaving to get the team back together, before shouting out a goodbye as he left.
Now it was just you and Garmadon, who was still holding your hand. He let out a quiet breath, one he was probably holding since Misako’s visit.
“That was intense.” He chuckled under his breath as he let go of your hand, not before giving it a final squeeze, opting to place it on the table. Your eyes glanced over at him as your lips curved into a smile. You could only imagine what it was like to save face talking to his ex spouse in front of their son.
“Tell me about it. I’m just glad Lloyd’s doing better enough to face his teammates again.” Garmadon nodded, taking a sip of his tea.
“I have a feeling there's a storm coming our way. Wherever the ninja go, trouble isn't far behind.” He wasn't kidding either. You ninja had a track record of attracting villains everywhere you went. Reminds you of the good old days saving Ninjago from impending doom.
You placed a hand over Garmadon’s on the table giving it a reassuring squeeze. Similar to the one he’d given you moments before.
“It doesn't matter how big that storm is, we’ll make sure to follow it for the sake of our son.” Garamdon paused, surprised by your wording. He found himself smiling at the thought of you two becoming Lloyd’s parents. It was a nice thought indeed.
The two of you stayed in his monastery finishing the last of the tea while the world went to sleep. Whatever you had in store for the future, you’d be sure to face it together.

Kai -
• It was his cocky attitude that did it for you.
• Sure he had an ego, but he was down to earth when it mattered. Being the "Red Ninja" he had a reputation to shamelessly flirt with whoever caught his eye. But as Kai, he was a regular guy who liked video games and hanging out with his team
• You would roll your eyes whenever he shamelessly flirted with you…But you couldn't deny it made your heart flutter everytime
• Like that one time he first bestowed the nickname "pretty" when you were training with him.
• You loved sparring with the ninja and had fun when Jay and Cole would make you laugh or when you would team up with Nya or Lloyd for duos.
• It was a one on one match where Kai had challenged you, and of course you agreed. You were so close to winning having him pinned down when he threw that name at you
• It completely shocked you, giving him just enough time to pin you on the ground
He was finally pinned to the ground. He was on his back with a spear pinning his neck, curtsy of you, with your knee directly on his chest. Nya stood to the side waiting for Kai to tap out as she counted the seconds.
You grinned down at him triumphantly, relishing in your victory. He was struggling under you trying to find a way to get out of this situation when an idea popped in his head.
"I have to hand it to you, You're strong, pretty."
"Wa-What?"
In that second of hesitation, he flipped you over and pinned you down. You blinked in both surprise and embarrassment. His compliment left you flustered but you refused to acknowledge it. Nya ran over and called off your match, not without giving you a suspicious glance. Kai helped you up and saturated away, not without throwing you another wink, for water leaving you trying to avoid an interrogation from Nya.
• From then on, you avoided him as much as you could which was impossible since you were with the ninja almost every day.
• He would always find a way to compliment you or something you did which annoyed you
• He knew exactly what he was doing and unfortunately for you didn't give you a break
• You showed up with a new move? "Intelligant and pretty? I must've hit the jackpot."
• Oh you crushed Jay at his favorite video game? "Told you they can't be beat, Jay. Wanna go up against me, pretty?"
• He was everywhere with that stupid smirk of his…but you didn't have the heart to stop him
• He thought it was cute seeing you short circuit everytime he complimented you
• Kai wasn't dumb either, he knew you definitely felt something for him
• Luckily for you, he wouldn't push you to confess your feelings if you were uncomfortable…but that didn't stop him from getting you flustered whenever he could
• Surprisingly, it was Zane who exposed your "crush" while you were sparring with the ninja
Another day and you were exhausted as usual. It was a miracle you could keep up this long with the ninja. They were on a whole nother level! You were taking a water break with Jay as the others fought in duos. Kai was paired up with Nya as they faced Lloyd and Cole which you did not want to be apart of right now.
As they sparred you could see Kai glancing back at you, throwing you winks or small smirks whenever he managed to flex his power or muscles. The worse part is that he insisted on being shirtless which made it harder not to stare every time he flexed.
"Are you even listening?" Jay's voice interrupted your thoughts.
"What? Sorry, I spaced out again." You turned back towards the lighting ninja clutching the cup of water in your hands. You totally weren't staring at Kai again why would you do that?
"They were fixated solely on Kai." It was the ice ninja's voice that startled you as turned to face him.
"What?! No! Where did you come from? I wasn’t staring!" Defending yourself was the only option for you but Zane undeniably smarter then you. “Then how come I sensed you’re heartbeat accelerate when you interact with him?”
“Dude no way! You got a crush on Ka-!” Jay laughed but was cut off when you slapped a hand over his mouth. “Shut up! I don’t have a crush on anybody especially not that prick! So keep it down!”
Jay managed to push you back as he laughed at your misery.
“Oh come on, if the nindroid says it you’ve definitely got a crush. No shame in it for you but Cole owes me twenty dollars.” You punched Jay’s arm as you denied having a crush much to Jay’s amusement. Zane looked between you two with an amused smile. He’d pitch in every time you denied your crush by recounting how many times your pulse quicked.
Even as you dismissed their claims you couldn’t deny the flutter you felt looking at Kai’s determined face as he fought. Maybe one day, he’d dedicate a match just for you.
Cole -
• Hard to say what made you fall for him but one factor had to be his big brotherly personality
• Cole is an easy going guy and can relate to anybody and everybody from a surface level to a deep connection
• You had always been with the ninja so you formed a connection with each one of them but Cole had always stood out to you differently then the others
• You played it off as just having more in common with him then the others but the way he always managed to make everyone around him smile drew you closer every time you two hung out
• Cole himself was never bothered by your presence in fact he loved spending time with you especially with your easygoing personality
• You both were around the same age so you always took the liberty of being the designated “parents” of the group
• You couldn't deny it made you flush a little being referred to as parents, Cole on the other hand was less bothered by it. It was cute seeing you trying to dismiss the nickname Jay mostly used to tease you both
• There was a specific time you brought your little brother to the monastery since he was a huge fan of the ninja, his favorite being the earth ninja.
• Cole took this fact to heart and planned an amazing day for your brother. He showed him around, let him see them train, and even played some video games with the kid
• Near the end of the day you looked around for your brother only to find him baking a cake with Cole in the kitchen
• It was a cute scene that you couldn’t help but watch as Cole took care of your brother
You had searched the entirety of the monastery but couldn’t find your little brother, River, anywhere. You thought he was in the living room so you entered to check only to find Jay in a heated video game match with Kai.. Lloyd was sitting on the couch beside them, concern etched on his face as he watched his friends battle it out. When you scanned the room, confirming River wasn’t there, you turned to your friends.
“Hey, have you guys seen River anywhere? I lost him after he ran off a while ago.” Of course the blue and red ninja were to busy with their game to even acknowledge the question.
“I think I saw him in the kitchen. Said something about wanting food?” Lloyd was the one to answer you which helped narrow down your search. You thanked the green ninja and threw a glare at the two idiots still aggressively smashing the buttons on their consoles. As you ventured into the kitchen, you heard a suspiciously distinct singing coming from the kitchen. You peered in to see Cole and River eating out of an entire chocolate cake. You stifled a laugh as Cole sang a silly tune as your brother laughed.
“Okay I get! You used to sing! Stop it!” River laughed as he took another big bite out of the cake. You guessed it was Zane who baked it earlier for River when he arrived but he decided to share it with Cole.
“Can’t stop what was gifted to me at birth. You got any talents Riv?” River beamed at the question and pulled out a notebook from his backpack filled with his sketches. He loved to draw and you had always encouraged him to practice his art.
“{Name} says I’m really good at drawing for my age! That’s why when I grow up, I’m gonna be an artist! Look this one is you!” He showed Cole a drawing he did of him in his ninja suit with the caption "favorite ninja!”
“Woah…This is really neat. Keep this up and I’ll be seeing you’re art in museums!” Cole’s words sparked a joy in River as he continued to share his artwork to him. Seeing how attentively Cole listened to River made your heart beat a little faster. You couldn’t help but stare as he nodded along and joked around with River since the scene itself was adorable.
• You started spending more time with Cole after that. He didn’t mind of course since he already considered you one of his best friends…which stung a bit for some reason
• Cole would mentally curse himself out when he would accidentally friend zone you (sorry!)
• You’d spend your free time with him whenever you could, under the guise of updating him on River’s drawings
• Cole didn't mind in the slightest, always enthusiastic whenever River wanted to show him a new drawing he made
• Even with that excuse you couldn’t help but seek him out just to talk about the small things that happened during the day
• Sure it wasn’t much but you loved whenever he would go into detail about such small events throughout his day. He was so passionate about everything you couldn’t help but listen to every word of his.
• “You’re a great listener, you know that? It’s one of things I love about you.” Yeah you didn’t function for the rest of the day. Cole was so close to pouring his heart out to you but held himself back for your sake
• You told yourself these were just platonic feelings but with how fast your pulse quickened every time he made you laugh or showed River support, it was hard to distinguish your feelings
• Your dilemma was seen clearly by Lloyd who was the one to call you out one day when you brought River back to the monastery
“Ha! I won again!” River cheered when he won another knockout on whatever game he got Cole to play.
“Oh c’mon. Another match, Riv! Winner gets a chocolate cake Jay pays for.” River nodded enthusiastically as they began their match again. “Wait, when did I agree to buy any of you anything?!”
You watched from the doorway with the same fond smile you did when you found them sharing cake a few weeks back. You felt your heart flutter again, he was so good at entertaining River. Taking being his favorite ninja to heart he made sure River had a blast whenever he visited the monastery. Watching him throw his head back in laughter really did something to you.
“I’m glad River’s felt welcome here. You’re a trusted friend of ours so we’re happy to have him around.” You looked up as Lloyd approached with a smile. You were thankful he had let River come over whenever he wanted, as long as their secret identities were kept. You made River pinky promise to the green ninja to never tell anyone and the rest was sealed.
“He loves coming here. His favorite part of the day is seeing you guys train and using your powers.” Lloyd nodded and looked between you and Cole for a moment before looking back at you. “Is that why you and Cole are together?”
You choked. “What?! No of course not! What are you talking about?” Lloyd shrugged but a small smirk spread across his face as he noticed your panicked expression.
“Well I asked Kai and he said you guys have been spending lots of time together. I just assumed you guys were dating, sorry!.” He put his hands up with a chuckle and walked over to sit beside Jay to watch the game on screen. Cole had looked up momentarily to throw you a huge grin, like he knew what you were talking about with Lloyd, before returning to his game.
Okay, maybe there weren’t any platonic feelings between you two.
“Great, Cole! Now I owe the kid a cake!”
Jay -
• Being best friends with Nya since childhood, you were welcome around the monastery and became a trusted friend of the ninja
•You knew Kai, her brother, who treated you like a second sibling with how close you were with Nya
• As you grew older, your hangouts became less frequent especially with her new position as the water ninja. However, you both never lost contact and you visited the monastery whenever there was downtime for the ninja.
• During these visits, you met the rest of the team and grew a strong bond with each of them
• The ninja that stood out to you the most was the lighting ninja, Jay. You weren’t sure if it was his awkward but sassy personality or the way he stuck his tongue out slightly whenever he was concentrated but either way you were drawn to him
• It’s what made you hang out around him more whenever Nya was out on a mission
• You could say you developed a “crush” on him over time. No of course it wasn't that, you just liked his personality
• You would laugh at his stupid jokes (even the bad ones) which raised suspicion from the other ninja
• No one in their right mind would find some of his jokes funny and for you to laugh at all of them raised eyebrows
• Everyone's eyebrows except Jay’s apparently. He was happy someone actually appreciated his humor
• You spent your time playing video games with him but also helping him out with small projects he needed to build or fix
• On one occasion, you two were in the kitchen fixing the stove that Cole had somehow broken trying to use it.
• You helped the best you could but left most of work to Jay as he cracked jokes in his frustration
You sat down beside Jay as he fixed the back of the stove, you helped him pull the thing out so you considered that an accomplishment. You offered a hand which Jay appreciated, commenting on how he’d make Cole do it next time.
“I mean seriously, how does he break the back of the stove? He cooked on top of it!” You laughed as he questioned Cole’s ability to cook. You loved the Earth ninja but this was something you couldn’t defend, you were equally as baffled.
“How many times does he break kitchen appliances?” You ask amused, handing Jay a wrench he tried to reach for. “Thanks. He breaks too many things way too frequently. He needs a kitchen ban until I can teach him how to use a stove! Or worse the fridge!”
You knew he was kidding but you couldn’t help but laugh. His humor was right up your alley and it reminded you of Nya’s dry humor that made you two fast friends. As you leaned closer to see what he was doing, you didn’t notice how close your faces had gotten. When you both turned to face each other, the proximity was undeniable. You quickly pulled away as his freckled face flushed slightly.
“Uh, sorry about that.” He shook his head with a small smile. “Don’t be. I don’t mind. Just fixing this stupid thing right?” He laughed nervously and busied himself with the stove again. You chuckled softly, ignoring the way your heart soared when your fingers brushed as you helped with the stove.
• Nya had seen everything.
• She never let you live it down. Ever.
• From that moment on, every time you came to the monastery she either teased you relentlessly or found ways to leave you alone with Jay much to your horror (delight?)
• Jay of course was blissfully unaware of your feelings. Like…completely unaware
• He found you cute of course but didn't want to overstep any boundaries considering you were Nya’s friend
• The water ninja would strangle you both if she could
• Obviously you denied any feelings for Jay because you didn’t have any…right?
• Sure he was adorable and you laughed at his stupid jokes and the biggest dork you’ve met but that didn’t mean you liked him!
• Nya was adamant on getting you to see your feelings for the lighting ninja but you refused to acknowledge it out loud
• Jay in turn believed you didn't harbor any feelings for him but deep down, he wished you would. Making you laugh with his silly jokes made him extremely happy
• It was when Jay was off on a mission when you stopped by one day where you realized you missed his presence. You missed his laugh and the way his eyes somehow dilated whenever he played one of his video games
• Nya immediately knew why you were said and took the opportunity to convince you it was because you liked Jay
The monastery was quieter without Jay around it seemed to you. Lounging on Nya’s bed you couldn’t help but miss the freckled menace and his sassy remarks. You groaned as you buried your face in Nya’s pillow as she entered the room with snacks.
“Wow. This better be how you act whenever I’m not around and you miss me.” She teased while placing the snacks by her desk. You looked over at her with a scoff, ready to deny it her accusation.
“I do not miss Jay. I just hate it when the monastery is so quiet. Feels empty without everyone here.” Your head flopped back down on the pillows as you sighed. The water ninja joined you on the bed sitting beside you with a knowing smirk, like she had won. She had.
“Never said it was Jay you missed, but nice to know you do.” You abruptly sat up with a panicked expression as you tried to stutter out a weak defense for your feelings. Your best friend laughed at the way you shot up.
“{N/n}, you’re too easy. Just admit you have feelings for the guy. He’s oblivious to himself so the faster you're honest with yourself the faster I don't have to see you two dance around your feelings.”
You tried to deny it again but when you heard the unmistakable sound of Jay arguing with Cole outside, you looked out the window. Nya threw a quick “Told you so” as she turned on the TV. As you said beside her to watch your movie, you couldn’t help but wait for the moment Jay came stumbling in to greet you two.
Zane -
• Something you liked about the ice ninja was his bleeding heart
• His love for the biggest and smallest things in this world was something you really admired about the nindroid.
• You knew he wasn’t human, but the way he saw the world and treated the beings around him made you forget that fact
• You were a ninja yourself so you were a part of the family and treated like an equal amongst your teammates.
• You had always been closer to Zane considering how much you two dominated the kitchen. You showed him different recipes and helped him cook which the team praised you both for
• Zane appreciated the help and was always down to try a new recipe you recommended
• In return, you’d also let him keep a few recipes he favored to make whenever he wanted
• You already considered your bond strong but what made your feelings shift was when you two were out on patrol and found an injured sparrow covered in snow
• Seeing him being so attentive to the bird made something spark inside you
Patrol had gone smoothly today. Nothing out of the ordinary and no criminals causing trouble so it was safe to say the city wasn’t in danger. You summoned your dragon in a forested area, ready to head out when Zane placed a hand on your shoulder.
“Hold on. I sense a disturbance in the area.” He gestured for you to be quiet with his finger and headed towards the source of whatever the “disturbance” was. You pulled out your weapon and carefully followed behind him. As you readied yourself for battle, you saw him knelt down over a sparrow.
“Uh, Zane? Where’s the trouble?” You ask looking around as if something would pop out from the shadows
“This is trouble. It appears to be a broken wing. Don’t worry little guy, we’ll help you recover.” He scooped the bird up gently in his hands and turned to you with the softest smile you’ve ever seen from him. You couldn’t be mad, seeing Zane being so worried about a small creature warmed your heart.
As you both flew your dragons back, you couldn’t help but sneak glances at him as he cradled the sparrow with the utmost care.
• With of both you taking turns nursing the bird, it made a full recovery and you both set it free not long after
• The whole time you found yourself appreciating the gentle nindroid and how caring he was to not only the bird but to you as well
• He made sure you weren’t overwhelmed with the task of taking care of the bird and offered you advice on what to feed it when he was out on patrols
• One day you asked him why he wanted to take care of the bird to which he responded
• “I saw it in need of help. It’d be wrong to leave it suffering in such a state. Besides, you’re here with me to ensure it recovers.” You’ll forever deny how his comment gave you butterflies
• Zane of course has no idea what a “crush” was. He only noted that your heart rate would increase whenever he was around
• The rest of the ninja saw how close you’d two had gotten, but they didn’t comment on it instead opting to share knowing glances at one another
• Everyone but Kai
• The fire ninja became more invested in your relationship when Zane had come to him for advice
• “They like you, buddy. I can see it as clear as day.” It was cloudy outside.
• Zane would rather wait for any confirmation from you to avoid any misunderstandings.
• He trusted Kai but his track record with dating wasn't the best…So he took the safest option! He’s waiting for you!
• Kai on the other hand was persistent on getting you to admit your crush on the ice ninja but you refused to give him the satisfaction
• It was one night at dinner where he corned you in the kitchen when Zane was running late from his patrol. Being the only other person trusted with food, you started up on dinner. Kai took this time to berate you as you worked
“Don’t lie to me. I know you feel a little something for our nindroid.” He teased taking a bite of an apple while you ignored him, focusing on cutting the vegetables.
“I really have no idea what you’re talking about.” You reply back dryly, trying to avoid his question for the hundredth time this week. “You know exactly what I’m talking about. The others haven't said anything about it but they aren't blind. You have what’s called a crush.”
You rolled your eyes at his insistence, ignoring his comment by mixing the stew you’re starting on. Noticing your silence, Kai came up with a different approach to his interrogation as he munched on his apple.
“You know, Zane’s the kind of guy to care for everyone and everything. He’s got a bleeding heart, despite being nonhuman. I’m sure that’s what did it for you. He’s amazing in his own right.” You paused, he was right. He summed up your conflict in a blink of an eye but you wouldn’t tell him that.
“He’s an amazing person. Human or not he embodies the kindness I hardly see nowadays. It’s what I love about him.” Kai threw his finished apple away and slammed his hand on the counter, loudly.
“Aha! Got you! I was right!” You whipped your head around with an embarrassed expression. “Traitor! I was being vulnerable with you!” Your fiery friend laughed his ass off as Zane arrived and took his place beside you.
“What did I miss?” You shook your head as you handed him his apron. You’d be dealing with Kai after dinner.
“Just another lame joke of Kai’s.” Zane shrugged, turning to the stew you started. You thought about Kai’s words as you cut some more vegetables. Zane really was an amazing person, someone who you found more drawn too the closer you got to admitting it.
Lloyd -
• At first, you didn’t know how to act around Lloyd when you first met him
• The whole "legendary green ninja” intimidated you if you’re being honest
• You’re brother Jay, the lighting ninja, would tell you he wasn’t an intimidating person…usually
• You never believed him even when he got Nya to try and convince you otherwise
• Lloyd would notice whenever you intentionally avoided him whenever he came to greet Ed and Edna when they visited
• He’d dismiss it as a coincidence but made an effort in trying to greet you as well
• When he finally manage to catch you in the living room he gave welcomed you to the monastery
• You of course were frozen, just staring blankly at him
• It was awkward for everyone. Especially Jay who felt second hand embarrassment for you
• Nya would tease you about having a crush on him which you denied off the bat, maybe too quickly to avoid suspicion
• Lloyd didn't want to overstep boundaries but he wanted to make a good impression on you. Last thing he wanted was for you to hate him
• You thought he was cute but he seemed really serious during any public appearances you saw on the news so you were walking on eggshells around him
• It wasn’t until you saw him in the scroll room when searching for Jay during a visit where you noticed how calm he looked
• He was standing over a pile of scrolls trying to organize them, when he looked up he gave you a boyish smile that made you reconsider your view of him
You and your parents came to the monastery for your monthly tradition of visiting (annoying) your brother. It had been years since you’d last seen him in person so you were always excited to visit him.
You had split up from your parents to try and find him faster. You wandered the halls until you ended up in the scroll room peeking inside to find Jay but instead met with the blonde haired ninja organizing the scrolls. You hesitated slightly, thinking he’d give you a stern talking about roaming around the monastery.
Instead he looked up at you with a grin you could only describe as adorable as he gave you a shy wave. “Looking for Jay? He’s in the control room with Zane. Nice to see you again.” You didn’t know what was wrong with you but that smile hooked you immediately.
“Thanks. Want a mint?” His eyes actually lit up as he practically skipped over to you for some mint. You started a conversation on the kind of mint you had which evolved to your favorite kind of candy. He preferred “pillow mint” which was a strange name…but it made you laugh regardless.
It had been over an hour of talking where you two shifted inside the scroll room to sit down. It was in the middle of a debate about which candy store was the best in the city when Jay stumbled in.
“{Name} finally! Is this where you’ve been?” You flushed slightly as he looked between you and the green ninja suspiciously. “It’s not my fault you hide away whenever I come to visit!" Lloyd laughed at your dig which shut Jay up. You left shortly after with your parents feeling a little better now that you understood Lloyd’s personality better.
• Ever since that encounter whenever you visited Jay, you’d always stumble upon Lloyd
• You two became closer as your visits became more frequent much to Jay’s dismay
• Sometimes you’d come without your parents which confused Jay but would brush it off whenever you went to hang out with Lloyd instead. The less bothered by you the better
• He showed you his comics and you showed him your inventions, where you two geeked out respectfully
• As you got to know him better, you noticed how you loved his presence. The way he related to you on even the littlest of things made your heart flutter slightly
• His smile pulled you in deeper. It was a smile he didn’t show very often, one that he only appeared to have around you.
• Lloyd felt free with you. He didn't have to worry about his responsibilities as the green ninja and could just be Lloyd around you. And the way you geeked out was so adorable to him!
• Nya had told him you were initially terrified of him, he felt so bad!
• The last thing he wanted is you viewing him as a monster.
• So he had gifted you a bag full of your favorite candies out of the blue you asked him why
• “Jay told me you used to be scared of me. Think of it as a thank you for getting to know me more.”
• You blamed the sugar rush from the candy but Cole called it a crush, which you denied
• The earth ninja seemed more invested in whatever was blossoming between you two. He was adamant that you two had feelings for one another
• The wait was killing Lloyd. Figuratively. He wanted to know if you liked liked him but didn't want overwhelm you
• So Cole took the liberty of investigating for him…in his own earth ninja way
• You were in the kitchen, helping yourself to some refreshments when he came in offering some brotherly advice…you had no choice but to listen
Next time you see Nya, you’d thank her for the delicious lemonade she made for you. Sipping some from a glass quietly while leaning against a counter thinking back to Lloyd’s smile. You really don’t know why you find yourself coming back to it, all you know is that it comforts you every time you see it. Unfortunately, your daydream was cut short when Cole walked in grinning as he saw you.
“Hey, {N/n}! Just the person I wanted to see.” He greeted, taking a glass of lemonade for himself. You greeted him back more focused on sipping your lemonade expecting him to leave right after…He didn’t.
“Jay’s been telling me you’ve gotten pretty buddy buddy with our green bean.” You narrowed your eyes at him, Jay’s big mouth.
“I’ve found a new interest in the guy. He’s approachable and fun to be around.” You kept your cool as you relaxed under the pressure. You got this.
“A new interest? Thought it would take longer for you to admit to liking him.” You whirled around to face him. You quickly stuttered out a retort, it wasn’t a crush that’s ridiculous! Cole only laughed at your embarrassing attempt to recover from that bombshell.
“Look I’m not here to pull it out of you. I just want you to know he’s been through a lot. He doesn’t get the luxury of just relaxing when the weight of the world falls on him. But the more time he spends with you, the more I see how relaxed he's become. It’s like you bring out a calmer side in him.” You stare at him as you listen, stunned. Was that really true? You felt your face heat up when he finished, your lemonade left abandoned on the counter.
He chuckled at your reaction, a deep sound that mocked you. “Just putting it out there. Take care of him. See ya!” With that he left the kitchen leaving you dumbfounded. When you recovered, you thought about his words for a bit. As you finished your lemonade, Lloyd's laugh echoing in your head, you said to yourself
“Yeah, I’ll take care of him.”

ʚïɞʚïɞʚïɞʚïɞ
The week flew by in a blink of an eye, much to Morro's excitement. Granted he did spend most of it cooped up in his room reviewing {name}'s syllabus but it's better then staring at the wall like he usually does. It's not that he doesn't want to start his training but he's taking Wu's words of "take all the time you need" seriously. Looking back down at the syllabus, he can't help but wonder what {name}'s doing right now. Exchanging messages all week does that to a guy.
Nya had given him {name}'s number the moment they returned to the monastery after the orientation. Kai of course had tried to give him some advice on how to talk to girls before Nya promptly shushed him. Her advice was to just "be yourself and show her the real you." If {name}'d known the real him she'd run for the hills.
Are we all still down for Saturday?
His phone lit up, the sender being Ms. pretty herself.
yeah we're still going. miss us already, ms pretty? This flirting thing isn't all that bad.
Of course I miss your sweet face. Woah. Never mind.
so you've been thinking about me? Nice save, Morro.
You could say that. Morro felt his heart beat for a second. You two have gone back and force like this all week. Compliments towards him never failed to make him smile.
He continues to text you, abandoning the syllabus in favor of a more interesting conversation. Little did he know, a pair of siblings were perched outside his room watching him smile at himself.
Kai looked over at his sister, "They've been texting all week. Told you they were into each other. My radar never lies." Nya rolls her eyes and gives him a look to keep it down.
"Okay I'll let you take the win, even though it was obvious." She whispers back reluctantly. Kai was about to stick his tongue out her before getting an idea.
"Wait. I have a plan."
"This can't be good."
"Trust me, sis. I only come up with good ideas."
"This is the worst idea you've come up with."
"Nya shush. Greatness is about to play out."
The siblings voices could be heard from behind you as they conversed. They went all out on their sting operation, wearing glasses and putting their menu's up to cover their faces as if you couldn't recognize them.
You choose to ignore them as you sipped on your coffee. Morro did the same, albeit looking more embarrassed. It was cute. The slight flush to his cheeks gave his face life. It suited him. Of course you wouldn't say it to his face but it's a nice thought.
"Sorry about them. I have no idea what they're planning." At his words you snap out of your thoughts and shake your head.
"Don't worry about it. I know how those two are. At least we get a chance to talk some more." Smooth, {name}. Keep it up and don't panic.
"Oh? You wanted to talk to me? Guess you couldn't get enough of me, Ms. pretty?" Great. Him and that nickname!
You pick up your cup again, fighting back a grin. "Can you blame me? You're cute when you blush." Guess you could say that to his face.
Morro's cheeks flushed a darker shade this time. He cleared his throat and looked down at his cup. You couldn't help but laugh a bit as he lifted up his gaze to smirk at you. His eyes go past you towards Kai and Nya as they argue. Something about Kai's radar? Whatever that means.
You could almost see the light bulb in his head light up as he looks over at you. You snort, "Something tells me you got an idea."
Morro puts a few bills on the table before meeting your gaze. "I do, Ms. pretty. Wanna hit the arcade?"
You couldn't remember the last time you went to the arcade. As a kid you'd go all the time, setting records on every machine. Nowadays, you're too busy with planning out different lectures and assignments during your free time you never go. It wouldn't hurt to go now.
"Yeah. But what about Kai and Nya?"
"Don't worry about them. They'll catch up…soon enough." You laugh at his words before stand up and following him out of the door. Looking back, you saw the siblings still in a heated argument, Kai failing his arms around like a manic.
You looked over at Morro who takes your hand, leading you over to the arcade down the street. He flashes you a smile, one that you return. You're definitely crushing him in those games.
Morro would never underestimate your abilities again. Game after game, he'd be crushed by a few hundred points. He wasn't horrible at arcade games, Jay would take him to these to show him the "beauty of gaming". He even taught Morro the basics and a few tricks to win these games, but it appears you bested him at every turn.
"Another win for me. What does that make, 12 to 0?" Ms. pretty's got some game.
"Are you some kind of video game nerd? How are you this good at old arcade games?"
"That's for me to know and for you to lose too." Touche.
Time seemed to fly by as he ultimately lost every round. You had won yourself a grumpy stuffed cat which Morro was surprised when you gave it to him.
"He belongs with you. He's like a miniature cat version of you." Yeah of course.
You both decided to take a break from playing games, for Morro's sake, and buy some slushies. His treat, since he lost. He took the time to get to know you more. He learned about your family life, current situation, and even what drove you to being a teacher.
Listening to your voice brought him back to the first time he met you during the orientation. It was honestly a breath of fresh air. He got to see you laugh, make you laugh, and seeing your personality. He wanted to open up too, but what would he say? I'm a reformed villain who almost destroyed the world. Nope. He'd rather crawl into his bed and rot there. As he debates his options, his phone pings.
WHERE R U?? Of course it was Kai. It had been almost two hours since you two had vanished. He wouldn't be surprised if they barely found out a few minutes ago. Morro sighs as he plays with the grumpy cat's tail. "Guess it's time we go…Before Kai and Nya lose their minds."
"Mostly Kai…Thanks for today, I had a great time, Morro." His lips curve into a soft smirk. "Anytime. Maybe next time we go out, it can be just us."
"So like an actual date?" Morro let's out a small chuckle as he grabs the grumpy cat and holds out his hand to you. "A date with the one and only, Ms. pretty? Count me in."
You laugh at his teasing and take his hand as you both walk out. The prospect of an actual date between you two lingered in the air, but all you could think about was his rough hand in yours and a future you couldn't wait to explore.
"There you are! We searched the whole city for you guys!"
"I knew this plan would go to shit." Yeah, you couldn't wait for what the future holds.
it's where reader is a young college professor, (foreign languages)
After Morro's redemption the ninja encourage him to start over and give college a try, and he does. It also works because Kai is studying in the same college too (and some of the other ninja idrc) and reader happens to be a friend of Nya because they are both interested in ancient languages (i hc Nya to be like that haha) so when the ninja take morro there to show him around, they meet her and at first morro thinks she's just another student.
he is surprised to see her at the podium when he enters his very first lecture.
(basically just morro having a crush on his young professor.. you can take this however you want )
YAYY TY FOR MY FIRST REQUEST HOPEFULLY YOU LIKE ITTT!!! Sorry this took forever I was at school lmaoo

The halls of the monastery were lit by the pouring sunlight from outside as Morro walked through them. Never in his short, dead, or redeemed life did he imagine himself here once again. The remnant of his past still haunts him, literately and figuratively, as he walked past a corridor still under repair since his attack. The ninja had defeated Morro at the battle of Stiix a few weeks prior and now provide him with everything he tried to destroy. Fate must've pitied him, but he didn't pity himself.
Wu had found him sulking in the courtyard earlier when he invited him to his scroll room, where Morro was heading now. Reaching the scroll room he wasn't surprised to see not only Wu but the other ninja there as well, of course. Morro closes the door behind him before leaning against the door frame."Is this the part where you ask me to sit in a circle and talk about my feelings?"
"Welcome, Morro." Wu greeted from where he stood by the desk. "The ninja here have a proposition for you. One that is sure to interest you." Wu nodded over at an unusually excited Kai. Oh great. They were either gonna kick him out or beat him until he's the color of Cole and Jay's Gi's. Why else would Kai be grinning that big?
Kai, the so not excited one, approached Morro and slapped his arm over his shoulder a little harder then he intended too, earning a wince from him. "You, my new not totally evil friend, are going to college!" What?
Assuming the former villain is confused, Kai continues, "You know…College? What you do after high school?" That earns an eye roll from Morro.
"I know what College is but what's the point? I didn't even finish high school with the whole, you know, take over the world thing."
"Oh trust us, we know." Jay mummers before getting shushed Nya's warning look. The water ninja then looks over at where her brother and Morro are.
"We know you didn't, Wu let us take a look at your record. Here's the thing though, you don't have a diploma but you got all your credits. So technically you did." The more you know.
Morro hesitates for a moment as he looks at the others. Going to college? In what world besides this one? Kai shakes his shoulder again. "Think about it, man. A chance to start over. And besides, you'd be surprised at how many hotties there are."
Kai throws a wink at Morro, ignoring everyone's collective eye roll. Cole lets out an amused scoff while shaking his head, "Sure because college is all about hotties."
Nya steps up beside Kai, pushing him aside which earns a "Hey!" from her brother. "Ignore him. But he's right about you having a second chance. The University of Ninjago has lots of majors out there for you."
Morro nods as he listens to her. This doesn't seem…too bad. "What are you majoring in?" He hoped he used the right term for that, the last thing the ninja needed to think was him being an idiot.
"Foreign languages. Pretty small class but you meet tons of people, like my friend {name}." Meeting new people doesn't sound…horrible. "You think you're up for it?"
Morro snaps out of his thought. Was he? He couldn't remember the last time he was in a classroom full kids who didn't put on any deodorant in the morning. As he looks up to meet Wu's patient gaze, he surrendered. With a sigh, he nods. "Okay. I'll give this college thing a chance."
The ninja all simultaneously light up. Was that a ninja thing? Oh well. "Great! Zane can get you started with an application." Nya nods as Kai steps beside her again. "Think about the girls flocking towards you-" Nya swiftly elbows his stomach which thankfully shuts him up.
As the siblings bicker, different scenarios flood Morro's head. Would people hate him for almost destroying the world? Would he become an outcast? A hand on his shoulder makes him look over at Lloyd. "You're worried, I know. It's not easy stepping into something you hardly know. Just try this out, okay? We'll be here to guide you." His words elicit a soft chuckle from the former ghost.
"Wise words, Green ninja."
The weather was perfect for today's orientation as you walked through the campus grounds. You spent most of your summer planning your lectures and staying on track with the curriculum. Thankfully, there was still time to enjoy the few months off as you spent it mostly with friends. One of which is the ever famous master of water herself, Nya Smith.
You both met during last years orientation. Nya had thought you were a student and asked what you were majoring in. Once you told her you were actually a professor, she called you a liar. You had to show her your staff ID before she finally believed it. From there, you became fast friends as you helped her with assignments and offered different study tips to pass her classes. Even after the year ended, you still hung out at cafe's and shopping districts.
Speaking of, Nya sees you walking by and waves you over. Waving back, you start walking towards her. You notice she's with her older brother Kai. You've met him before on some outings with Nya. He'd try to flirt but Nya would immediately shut it down, usually with a punch.
The other guy is someone you've never seen before. He was wearing green hoodie with baggy jeans, typical college attire. His hair was near shoulder length with a single green streak. All of Nya's friends were familiar with you but this guy is either a newbie or just a loner who happened to sit there. As you approach, Nya engulfs you in a hug.
"Hey girl! It's been forever!" You laugh as you return the hug. "It's only been two weeks."
Nya pulls away and shrugs, "That's what I said, forever. I'm sure you remember my brother." Kai looks up from his phone to wave before swiftly returning to his game, "And that-" She gestures toward the guy you didn't recognize, "is Morro. He's new around here. Morro, this is {name}. The friend I told you about."
You looked over at Morro and flashed him a polite smile. He gave you one in return while shifting his seat to face you. He's cute, hot actually. Your throat dried as you tried not to stare at his face before realizing you were very much staring at his face.
"Hey. I'm {name}…As you already know." Morro's soft chuckle caught you off guard. Oh he definitely has a hot voice-
"Nice to meet you. I'm Morro…As you already know." Called it!
"I'm guessing your major is joke related."
"Maybe. Is it yours, Ms. pretty?" Yeah, this guy is gonna be the death of you. "By chance are you a ninja too?"
Morro freezes for a second at the question, opening his mouth to answer it as Kai responds, "Something like that. Think of it as ninja in training."
You nod and look at the time on your watch, missing the way Morro sends a glare in Kai's direction.
"Anyways. I gotta run. See you guys around." Nya nods giving you one last hug before waving goodbye along with Kai, who looked back down at his game.
You're gaze lingers on Morro before forcing yourself to walk towards the faculty building, Morro's eyes never leaving you.
"Told you there would be hotties."
"Please shut up."
Morro, Nya, and Kai sat near the back of the lecture hall. It wasn't really packed, only about sixty people scattered around. Morro thought it was a big class but according to Nya these are the smaller classes.
"Do I write down what's on the board?" Nya shakes her head at his question. "That's the schedule this is an orientation. All you gotta do is listen."
"Or you can just take a nap. Whatever works for you." Nya nudges Kai in the elbow, again. Morro smirks as they begin to bicker. Grabbing his water bottle he takes a sip out of it as the professor steps up to the podium.
"Good morning, everyone. My name is Ms. {last name} and I will be your professor for this class." Morro promptly chokes on his water.
Kai and Nya stifle their laughs beside him, trying not to attract any attention from the other students. "She's the teacher?! And you didn't tell me?!"
Nya snorts, "You never asked, ghost boy. Hard to believe right? She fooled me too." What in the world? {name} looked so young. He guessed she was around his age, which she probably is, but never would've guessed she was a professor. His professor.
"Hey if you ever need help in the dating game, you know who to call." Nya, of course, elbows his stomach to shush him. They both go quiet as they listen to {name}'s course material. Morro on the other hand, only focused on her voice. She was pretty, too pretty. How had she become a teacher, a college professor at that, at a young age? He wanted to know everything about her.
Was it weird? Should he be crushing this hard on his professor? His focus on her never wavered even long after the orientation was over. He saw her wait by her desk as other students rolled out, this was his chance.
Orientation went smoothly, thank the Heavens. You had explained the usual information students should expect during the curriculum like tests, projects, and finals. The occasional student would approach your desk to ask you something, which you'd politely answer it.
Once you started to pack your things you sensed someone approach you. "So it's Ms. {last name} now?"
You look up to meet Morro's gaze. You saw him sitting with Kai and Nya during your lecture. He seemed shocked to see you as the teacher so you assumed this was Nya's doing. You can't complain though, another run in with him is something you'd never protest too.
A small chuckle escapes you "Surprised? I'm guessing Nya didn't tell you, huh?" Morro scoffs as he leans back against the desk.
"Even if she did, I wouldn't have believe her. You don't look like the stereotypical professor, Ms. {last name}." You roll your eyes as you grab your satchel. "There's no need for that. A friend of my friend is also my friend, or however the saying goes."
You both laughed at that. He's surprisingly pretty chill to be around. It's hard not to stare at his face again, even when you felt his eyes trace your own. "Yeah…we can be friends, Ms. pretty." You couldn't help the way your cheeks warmed up at his nickname. Something about the way he said it hypnotized you.
You both stared at each other in silence before Nya pops up beside you, her brother not too far behind.
"Hey so I've been thinking. What if I gave you Morro's number? That way you guys can stay in touch like we do. We could even go out to a cafe this weekend." Morro's eyes snap towards her as you hum in thought.
"Not a bad idea. I'm free this weekend. Just text me the details later."
"I'm sure Morro will be more then happy too." Morro ignores Nya as his gaze lands on you. "See you around, Ms. pretty." You nod and wave goodbye.
"I'll be looking forward to it."
With that the trio walks out waving goodbye, leaving you with anticipation for the weekend and seeing him again.
