Doctor Who: BBC cancels Christmas special and Russell T Davies announces departure
Doctor Who: BBC cancels Christmas special and Russell T Davies announces departure https://share.google/LAhmVHqaWjZHmgQrA
The BBC said the decision was made "after careful consideration" and had "not been taken lightly".
Looks like we dodged a bullet: I wasn't looking forward to that Christmas special at all.
Good riddance: RTD never should've come back in the first place. Doctor Who can't keep trotting out the same worn out warhorses over and over again. No more Moffat, RTD, or Chibnall: the franchise needs new blood, new ideas.
Tonight on Doctor Who:
I feel like this could be about any episode ever
Once, Media was a contested ground, in which the impulse to educate was in tension with the injunction to entertain. Now – and the indispensable Lawrence Miles is incisive on this, as on so many other things, in his latest compendium of insights – Old Media is almost totally given over to a vapid notion of Entertainment… and so, increasingly, is education.
— Mark Fisher, "Choose Your Weapons" (2007)
What a neat symbol of overlapping milieus it is that Mark Fisher's semi-idiosyncratic use of "hauntology", with its sense of "lost futures" as a spectre in the present, was presaged by The Book of the War's Ghost Point.
From in "The Slow Cancellation of the Future" in Fisher's Ghosts of My Life (2013),
What should haunt us is not the no longer of actually existing social democracy, but the not yet of the futures that popular modernism trained us to expect, but which never materialised. These spectres – the spectres of lost futures – reproach the formal nostalgia of the capitalist realist world. Music culture was central to the projection of the futures which have been lost. […] In hauntological music there is an implicit acknowledgement that the hopes created by postwar electronica or by the euphoric dance music of the 1990s have evaporated – not only has the future not arrived, it no longer seems possible.
The YouTube version of my Lungbarrow by Loomlight (mostly) spoiler-free review is out NOW! featuring some extras not in my written review, like me geeking out about one of my all-time favorite mostly unknown characters making her return 30 years after her first (and only, until now) appearance.
Lungbarrow by Loomlight will be released April 23rd, 2026. The ebook can be preordered at this link, and a link to the paperback version will be included in this post upon release.

You can now read my novel "And Today, You" for free on Barnes and Noble nook, in our lead up to the upcoming story Lungbarrow by Loomlight. Meet Chris Cwej, a cosmic adventurer who drops into the life of student Jhe Sang Mi as her normal turns strange--Enjoy!

Epic Doctor Who special will bring back Tennant and all Doctors.
I can honestly say that this is one of the stupidest things I've ever read.
April Fool's Day sucks.

One of Omegas delirious thoughtforms freed from the underverse of his mind by the Rani's ill advised attempt to bring back to the positive matter universe biodata untainted by the Master's death particles. Ironically if successful the untainted biodata would have been that acquired by Omega from the Doctor during the Infinity Arc incident.
The Doctor's assistant Peter Purves was invited to a screening of the episodes in Leicester.
OH MY GOD??
