people: if you so much as TOUCH your friend, that means you are DATING
me, laying in my friend's lap to watch them draw: oh is that true. lol
a huge problem of why loveful folks can’t accept that lovespecs(? i’ve never seen others use this term but i’m going to) exist is their association that “love = care/kindness” so when they learn others don’t experience love or do so in a different way, it’s wrong because “so you’re saying you don’t care about anyone? so you aren’t kind to anyone and hate everyone? you’re just an emo edgelord that never grew out of their teen phase”
love ≠ care/kindness/respect/etc. love means “i feel x emotion” which is irrelevant to how you treat others—you’re more likely to be nice to others when you love them, but that isn’t always the case: love can cause abuse, love can cause stalking, etc.
“but that isn’t real love!!” imagine if someone hurt someone and got joy from that, and you claimed “but that’s fake happiness! real happiness comes from doing good things!” you sound ridiculous, right? because even tho the person is happy they did something wrong, that doesn’t mean their happiness isn’t real—we know this person is happy about doing a bad thing, but that doesn’t discredit happiness in general. we can acknowledge this person is genuinely happy while also knowing what they did is wrong, because “happy ≠ i did a good thing/something good happened to me”
so why can’t you apply this to love? why is love this untouchable, otherworldly being everyone likes to pretend is the source of humanity? it isn’t: it’s an emotion. when someone is a victim of abuse and you tell them “that wasn’t real love,” you’re discrediting their experience and creating a harmful idea that if a person loves you, they cannot hurt you, which is bullshit. victims of abuse can (and often do) genuinely love their abuser, and abusers can also genuinely love who they’re abusing. love isn’t this morally perfect emotion, and to dwindle it down to “love is good” is a toxic mindset
and you don’t need love to care about or respect someone. let’s say you’re talking to a cashier. you’re polite to them and if asked, you’d say you don’t want something bad to happen to them. by loveful’s logic, this means you love them, which probably isn’t the case. what about strangers you pass on the street? are you kind to them, and if someone fell on the sidewalk would you help them up? that’s kindness and respect, not love. i, and many others, don’t love the strangers we walk next to, but that doesn’t mean we want to shoot them all in the head or for something bad to happen to them
you don’t need love to be a good person, and tbh, i hope you’re only reason for being nice to others isn’t because your emotions tell you to be. if you’re only respectful to folks when you love them, then i doubt lovespecs are the bad guys here

Tumblr is slowly breaking down for me, my device no longer supports it. (Unfortunately...) which means I'm going to be inactive for a bit, due to the fact my phone is quite...Jank, it's a little bit on the older side. And I refuse to buy a new phone. (For reasons.) (I think I might just be stubborn) but it's ok.
I wish my mutuals and followers wonderful days.
DONT STOP TALKING ABOUT PALESTINE! DONT STOP TAKING ABOUT GAZA!
DONT LET THEM MAKE YOU FORGET!!
Do not forget about Palestinians on this Eid, do not forget about Gaza, do not forget about the lives taken and homes destroyed, do not forget about the joy and life so cruelly snatched from them.
Eid means to us what Christmas means to most of you. And they're spending it digging through rubble and locating bodies to burry.
They have no chocolates, no new clothes to wear, no homes to decorate, they lost loved ones which would gather together, no Eidi to give to children to make them happy, no mehndi, no jewelery, no new toys.
Do not forget about Palestine.
Keep boycotting for them, keep protesting for them, keep donating to the families through the link tree, keep buying e-sims for them, keep sharing the truth, keep exposing Israel for their consistent humanitarian crimes.
Remember the Palestinians, especially today, on Eid, an occasion of joy.
May Allah make it joyous for them after everything they had suffered, may they be free from the Zionist occupation and genocide
Eid Mubarak, to everyone, and to the Palestinians

In case no one told you growing up
Bras last longer if you let them air dry. Don’t put them in the dryer.
If you have a problem with frizzy hair, don’t dry your hair with a towel. It makes the frizzies worse. (I recently read an article that said to use a t-shirt? I brush mine out and let it air dry.)
Whites wash best in hot water. Everything else can be in cold - save on your electricity bill.
You can kill 99.9% of germs in a sponge by putting it in the dishwasher for a cycle or by microwaving it for 2 min (be sure to make the sponge damp before microwaving and to put a cup half full of water in with it and please DO NOT squeeze the sponge until it has cooled off)
Airing out your room/house and letting sunlight in every so often can decrease the number of household pests like silverfish and ants.
Black underwear is best during your period as stains are less likely to be visible.
To save money, put aside 10% of each paycheck into a savings account. It’ll add up.
Unless your hair has something on/in it (like grease or mud or something), using conditioner first can actually be the better choice. The conditioner holds in the good oils that help you hair look sleek and beautiful, which shampoo would otherwise wash away.
Speaking of shampoo - if you have long hair, washing just the bits that touch your scalp is generally enough. The rest of your hair gets cleaned with just the run off from your scalp.
If you put a tampon in and it’s uncomfortable/you can feel it, you didn’t do it quite right. A properly placed tampon is virtually unnoticeable by the wearer.
Apply deodorant/antiperspirant a couple hours in advance of when you need it. This gives the product the chance to block your sweat glands. Using deodorant just before going somewhere where you’ll sweat (this means walking outside for people in high humidity places) results in your sweat washing the deodorant off and starkly limiting its usefulness.
After running the dryer, use the dryer sheet from that load to brush out the lint catch - it gets everything off in a fraction of the time it’ll take you to get it clean with your bare hands. Paper towels also work well.
Wash your face everyday, or as often as possible. Forget which brand of cleanser is best. Just washing your face everyday will guarantee you clearer skin. And do you best not to pop pimples, as tempting as the urge may be.
Fold laundry asap after taking it from the dryer to avoid wrinkles. This may seem obvious for dress shirts and silly for things like t-shirts, but you’ll notice the difference even then once your shirts stop looking like unfolded paper balls.
To all the kids whose parents couldn’t help you with this kind of stuff
And to the kids who grew into adults still figuring stuff out ❤️
Boundaries are so incredibly important and so is learning to stand up for yourself
Experiencing pain that keeps you from doing tasks or things you like for weeks-months or longer isn’t normal, make a doctor’s appointment
If you didn’t learn any skills to regulate your emotions and find them overwhelming then a good start for learning how to handle them is a Self Regulation Workbook (even if it’s for kids)
If you can’t cook then learn how to make an easy food thats really dynamic so you have a Go-To recipe you can make when frozen food gets old. Pasta, burritos, and soup have simple recipes that you can add whatever you want to and it’ll probably be good.
Maintaining relationships isn’t easy so learn how to apologize and how to accept apologies from well meaning friends. Learn also to understand that people who make you upset aren’t always attacking you or intentionally hurting you.
Change your underwear everyday. Bras you can wear for a couple weeks without washing but underwear should be changed Daily and you should have enough to last to laundry day.
Learn how to wipe. You might think you know how or even that you don’t have to but learn. This goes for all body types and orifices.
Get sleep. Create a sleep schedule and routine and stick to it. I can not tell you how much sleep affects your moods, energy levels, and social ability. Get good sleep for a week and you’ll find out.
Additionally, melatonin is a natural sleep aid if you struggle sleeping and if that doesn’t help then learn about insomnia, cuz you might have it. If you do then see if you can get any help from your doctor because there are absolutely medicines for insomnia.
You’re gonna need at least one 4-day weekend every year where you don’t work or have stressors. Your brain is a muscle and it gets fatigued like everything else and needs to blow off steam to keep working right. Give it (and yourself) a break and pampering.
For my mentally ill besties: it doesn’t matter how long the wait-list is. Get on that psychiatrist/psychologist/therapist’s wait list. If someone else has sooner availability you can at least cancel. It’s better to be waiting then have no plan at all for treatment
If you don’t have a portable vacuum and don’t wanna buy one then a lint roller is a pretty decent substitute for small messes actually.
Invest in flushable wipes for quality of life’s sake.
Loofahs hold bacteria and are generally made of cheap plastic. Use washcloths and use them gently because they’re also exfoliating and will keep your skin soft. Have a separate one for your face. You can wash and reuse them so they last Way longer. A pack of em are like $5 at Walmart so they’re most cost effective too
Invest in a good set of pots/pans otherwise you’ll be replacing them like every year. Also read the instructions, Especially if you get a set with nonstick coating. That coating is carcinogenic and you Should Not use the pan At All if it’s scratched or the coating is peeling off. Follow the instructions for their care so that doesn’t happen too fast.
Omar Ismail will make history at the 2024 Olympic Games as the first Palestinian taekwondo player to ever qualify
been seeing homies get deep into "the terror" and making me want to rewatch SO i spent two hours in the dead of night reading the wiki/the subreddit/other linked articles and like. one of those articles was deadass fucked up
there was a woman who spoke inuktitut who was writing a book containing a lot of inuit oral histories, and in nunavut she was able to hear passed-down recollections of when survivors from the franklin expedition were passing through
and like. i can't imagine being an inuit family/group, knowing that europeans exist but having never seen them, seeing 8-9 shambling, blue-skinned, cold-to-the-touch out-of-their-minds white men come wandering by. they invited the men inside their igloos for warmth, for food, to be hospitable. the men refused to eat, refused to speak, and when trade was offered, clutched their possessions close and refused to entertain the idea of trade. this was, offputting, to say the least. the group set them up in their own igloo, with their own fire, and left three whole seals for them to eat. and then they fled cause what the FUCK get out of there. they came back in a few days to check on the strangers. the three seals were completely untouched, while all of the men had killed and eaten each other
i mean. fuck dude. there are obviously pretty dark angles to view the franklin expedition from– honestly can't think of a good angle, it's pure colonialism and british exceptionalism– but that specific interaction, that inuit group who were living lives as normal until a dozen fucking walking dead showed up and did cannibalism. no wonder that story got passed down, i'd be shitting my pants if i saw that
found the article! the detail i got wrong was that the inuit returned in a few months, not days, to retrieve some belongings left behind when they fled. creepy as fuck check it out

MASS DEATH IS IMMINENT IN GAZA
The U.N. warns that 1.1 million Palestinians are at imminent risk of death, as the crushing toll of the siege reaches its lethal and final stages. In North Gaza particularly, there is little time left before hundreds of thousands of people will die of hunger.
Time is almost up for over a million people. The US and its allies bear full responsibility for what can only be described as an impending holocaust. Without an immediate change of course that includes the provision of mass amounts of aid into Gaza and sanctioning Israel, mass death from starvation is a guarantee.
It is extremely important that this isn't just "more of the same" here. They're out of food, it is getting worse. Integrated Food Security Phase Classification is an organization for studying food insecurity, and they have a scale for how bad food insecurity is. Gaza has BEEN in phase 4 for a long time now, and that's already what is called "emergency". Its bad. But they only now have been upgraded to phase 5, outright famine.
Gaza is the only place in the world to have this level of food insecurity right now.
This isn't "more on-going cruelty" like I have heard from so many. This has changed to "no, this community is currently collapsing, and will completely die out if we do not do something NOW to at least take them from 'dying' to 'starving'". This is acute food insecurity on an unimaginable and unsurvivable scale. Contact whoever you need to immediately, because it literally does not get worse. This is the part where the genocide could fucking its goals if you do not do something to spurn your government into action.
Mona, my contact in Rafah right now, has just survived an air strike while distributing food parcels that were created thanks to your donations. She and her brothers who were also distributing the food were very nearly hit. Alhamdulillah for everything.
When I asked her if anyone was killed by this air strike, she told me Alhamdulillah no one was hit. It's possible she just meant from her relatives present there, but I'm going to take it to mean no one was killed at all, until we hear more news. She's very tired and works very hard to distribute our donations. If you want to send her a kind message, letting her know you care - in English or in Arabic - leave it as a reply or as a reblog comment or as a bunch of tags or in my inbox (if inbox, specify that it's for Mona) and I will send it to her. Our donations are important but they're nothing without her work, and most importantly her well-being and safety.
Please reblog this version instead! I fixed the second link.
happy PRIDE i’m here i’m queer and i believe the land should be given back to the proper indigenous stewards.
Non-Natives reblogging this are great and wonderful
Please remember that "land back" does not mean "indigenous people are mystical elves with innate epigenetic wisdom of land stewardship and they don't belong in big cities," nor does it mean "non-indigenous people can't be farmers." What it DOES mean is that "non-indigenous farmers should be paying the equivalent of property taxes to the native governments their land was stolen from." It means, "there's a great deal of indigenous scholarship on sustainable agricultural practices that farmers should be taking into account, because indigenous agriculture was more advanced than European agriculture at the time Europe invaded the Americas and western agriculture *still* hasn't caught up in terms of figuring out how to produce equivalently high crop yields without compromising the ecosystem." It means, "non-indigenous farmers should be in an intellectual discourse with indigenous agricultural scientists and indigenous peoples that still do traditional farming, figuring how to repair the damage western farming practices have done to the ecosystem."
It also means that indigenous peoples should regain the right to sustain themselves on the land according to the practices they want, and they should have free reign to perform their cultural practices and protect their holy sites, as opposed to the current model where if they try to honor their dead on public lands they get violently removed.
