Reenact the binary trigger ban retroactively to January 1, 2025"
There's also this section that not only makes it illegal to use a CNC or a 3D printer to make a gun outright, but it also makes it illegal to share any files to do so.
What's crazy about all this is so much of it is regarding "ghost guns." That's a term completely manufactured by politicians based on misunderstandings and quarter-truths. It is fundamentally based on the idea that a weapon with no serial number is somehow more dangerous than one with a serial number, which is nonsense, because serials are very easily defaced; they have been convinced it is an immutable forensic slam dunk because they're idiots. But at least with "assault weapons" there's about 40 years of scaremongering that has filtered that into public consciousness. People are calling for assault weapon bans. Nobody even knows what a fucking ghost gun is.
They literally have three completely different definitions of "ghost gun" in the fucking bill. This is complete nonsense.
It's gonna come down to a single vote in the house, and it's expected to fail there. But this is the most aggravating shit imaginable. Moral panics about weapons are something with hundreds of years of legacy in this country. It always changes. This present language about "assault weapons" has its origins in the prohibition-era panic about "gangster weapons." All this "weapons of war have no place on our streets" nonsense. This became such a resonant moral panic that entire films were made about it (I implore you to watch Hawks' Scarface), that it became embedded in some versions of the Hays code. There was a rise in violence due to a combination of economic downturn and prohibition creating a massive illicit market for bootleggers. Organized crime filtered in. Violence happened. Then that violence was projected onto the weapons, as well as being racialized as something done by not-yet-white Italian immigrants, contained within the language of "gangster weapons". So, they passed the National Firearms Act in 1934, after prohibition ended in 1933. And it didn't help gun violence! So they just kept trying to regulate gun violence away, generally by focusing on how scary the guns are! They tried again in 1938, and in 1968, and in 1986 they further banned machine guns, then, in 1994 there was a federal assault weapons ban, which was racialized and fantasized and had movies made about it in much the same way as the "gangster weapon" panic. Then, after ten years, its was allowed to expire, because it had no measurable effect on gun violence. But we keep coming back to this bullshit we already tried instead of offering any real solutions. Over the last decade or so, this "ghost gun" shit has come up despite it not being a notable source of gun violence. But here they are, presenting THREE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT DEFINITIONS OF WHAT A "GHOST GUN" EVEN IS. And this push for gun control which began after the Annunciation shooting was revitalized DURING METRO SURGE. These liberals are fucking useless morons.
