Stuck on the idea of vampires as a kind of reverse fae, or like someone's twisted, perverse attempt at moulding humans into fae.
They're repelled by liminal spaces.
A vampire could never enter fairyland, not just because they'd never be welcomed, but because most of the usual entry-ways are naturally barred to them.
They can't cross running water. They can't be seen in mirrors. They will wait forever at a crossroads, unable to pick a direction to go in. They can't even step over a thresh-hold unless there is absolutely no ambiguity about whether they are welcome inside.
They crave human blood, iron and salt, but are repelled by herbs and plants. They are supernaturally prevented from harming you unless the rules of hospitality have been invoked.
A fairy may replace your newborn child with something unnatural and ever-hungry. A vampire will do the same, but with your grandmother's corpse.
The fae are typically associated, even in stories where they're the bad guys, with flourishing and purity. Vampires, even in stories where they're the good guys, are typically associated with decay and corruption.
The fae turn ancient human burial mounds into fancy halls for their courts. Vampires take ancient human castles and let them grow mildewed and cobwebbed, exchanging the beds for coffins, turning them into burial places.
Fae don't tend to live among humans, but can generally pass for them with relative ease if they so choose. Vampires nearly always live among humans, but tend to find not revealing themselves a huge struggle.
I can't think of many stories I've read where fae and vampires even exist in the same universe, let alone ones where they actively interact. I feel like their enmity is almost more inevitable than that between vampires and werewolves, however.
The rivalry between vampires and werewolves is, essentially, the rivalry between two apex predator species who share a territory. (Even in stories where the werewolves aren't actually hunting humans.)
The vampires hate the werewolves because the werewolves interfere with their access to prey. The werewolves hate the vampires either because they consider themselves aligned with humans (the prey species), or because they are also predators and the vampires are competing with them.
By comparison, I think there's some story potential in the fae finding something genuinely creepy and uncanny valley about vampires.
They're immortal, like them, but also dead. They can be beautiful, like them, but that beauty is something they actively require humans to sustain. They like to inhabit beautiful and ancient ex-human dwellings, like them, but they actively work to make those places dark, damp and empty.
Fairies who are unflappable in the face of all sorts of Otherworldly monsters, can look an eldritch horror in the eye(s) without blinking, and have never been phased yet by any human, but will recoil from even the weakest vampire.
Vampires who hate fairies just as much, but in a more envious way. The way that the creature for whom immortality is a curse is bound to hate the creatures for whom immortality is an eternity of sunlight and laughter.
Maybe their touches burn each other. Maybe vampires can't stand physical contact with anything so alive and vital. Maybe immortal fairies become ill from too much exposure to the undead.
Maybe they fight over the human population when their territories overlap. The fairy need for servants and people to make deals with, competing with the vampire need for thralls and blood to drink.
Just⌠fairies and vampires. We need more stories about them interacting.

special reminder that sacrifices take many forms and donât always require the death of something necessarily.
We live in a capitalistic society where money directly correlates with survival. Spending your hard earned money on supplies or offerings is most definitely a valid sacrifice. Most people do not have the means or skill to go out and properly/respectfully offer up an animal. The action of hunting, slaying and recycling is not relevant to most modern people anymore. We donât hunt in fields anymore, but we do hunt for bargains at the grocery store. We do labor at our jobs for money. We exchange that labour for produce, meat, fruit, veggies and cream. Donât feel like youâre cheating by offering a store bought steak to your deities just because you didnât personally butcher the cow yourself. This all still counts even if it seems non traditional.
Time is a sacrifice. Dedicating hours to creating a piece of art for your deity, a song, a poem, or studying with them can count as a sacrifice of time. Time is a form of currency. Every living moment you spend honouring your Gods is a sacrifice.
Emotional turmoil or struggle can also be considered a sacrifice. Doing intense shadow work that brings you to tears but also allows you to overcome your struggles can definitely count as an emotional sacrifice, or a sacrifice of self comfort.
Working out and training your body is also a sacrifice of comfort, youâre literally offering pain and struggle up to your Lords as proof that you are willing to overcome adversity to become stronger and healthier. That is a sacrifice, one that most people (myself included) have a very hard time preforming.
A lot of our relationships with our deities revolve around transactions, giving offerings for example in exchange for blessings. Remember that even if you donât have something physical to offer right now, there are always things that can be sacrificed or offered to the Gods that go beyond the physical. When we willingly put ourselves through strife in an effort to make positive changes in our lives we are making sacrifices. A part of us must be killed to create space for something new. Your Gods see your efforts and cherish them, do not underestimate their value.
Hellenic Nekromanteion Ritual
This is a ritual based off of the historical accounts and known facts about the Nekromanteion practices. It is not the end all be all, rather a suggested route to go about doing it. Going in with another, more experienced person is recommended, because you will need someone to constantly be chanting and invoking the dead if possible, but also because itâs good to have a backup in case something goes wrong. Here are the steps I have created in the efforts of helping you and myself. What youâll need: â Three bloodless offerings â A black sheep image â Broad beans, pork, barley bread, or oysters to eat â Khernips â Prayers â Invocations to the Dead
Step one: Cleanse yourself of miasma and pray to the gods. Ask for guidance and protection, and a blessing over you so that you may hear the voices of the dead and understand what they say. Pray to whomever you desire, some ideas include Zeus for protection, Haides for a clear view into the realm of the dead, and Okeanos for cleansing.
Step Two: Go into a pitch black room and eat the food of the dead. It is often recommended to eat things like pork, broad beans, oysters, and barley bread. (1)
Step Three: Stay in a dark room and begin to meditate. Think about what you want to learn from the dead, and specifically how you will be getting the information.
Step Four: Enter the place you will be conducting the ritual. Offer the sheep figure, and recite a hymn to Haides and Persephone.
Step Five: If youâre not with another person who will be reciting invocations to the dead, then turn on a recording of such chants. Have them recite a few and then make your first offering. Ask Haides to bring you closer to the dead, and visualize yourself passing through a gate. You have crossed the first gate of Haides. Repeats this process with the three gates, giving your biggest offering last.
Step Six: Await the dead, listen for their voices, and watch for any movement. Allow yourself to hear them, whether physically or within your mind. Remember all you hear and close down the ritual. Command all of the dead to leave for now, and thank them for their time. Do this even if you do nor hear anything.
Step Seven: For three days, focus on purifying yourself. If possible, visit sacred places such as oceans or springs. Cleanse yourself with khernips and send up prayers to the gods each day for cleansing.

"how do you tell the difference between a whippet and an italian greyhound" simple. look at it head on. if it looks like a dog it's a whippet. if it's making a face like you've just threatened it with a firearm, it's an iggy
see? simple as
Sweet gods, thank you! Now I know what my youngest dog is.
So I'm really not sure where to start with this one, but what would make an area devoid of ghosts and wights and suchlike? Can you think of something that would make a cemetery feel no different than a park? I was talking with my brother and we decided that what makes this town so very creepy is that it isn't haunted; there should be stuff here, but there's nothing. It's like something scared off or fenced out all the incorporeal folks.
There are a few things - sometimes simple geography can make it inhospitable to such creatures. Sometimes theyâre asleep, because no one has interacted with them in a a very long time.Other options include trauma - sometimes things can happen which render areas ânullâ because all the wights have been driven out in the way animals flee a disaster. Or, they can be driven out by human activity - be that ritualised wardings, certain architectural arrangements which form bindings (whether conscious or not.)In North America, in my very limited experience, thereâs been a significant..disruption of spiritual ecology in places, I suppose you could say. The interplay between culture and the incorporeal is complex, in ways we as moderns donât always comprehend. Iâll tag @theheadlesshashasheen and @bodaciousbanshee here, cause being on that continent, they may have more ideas.Â
Hello! Because our old mutual theheadlesshashasheen left Tumblr a long time ago I guess I have to break my witchposting hiatus.
@runecestershire, since I donât know the specific history of your area I could never guess what could have made your town spiritually sterile. I agree that areas like that are creepy. The general reasons the Coldalbion gave are plausible. Iâll expand on those a bit with an anecdote from ecology:
My neighborhood used to have frogs. They would chirp in chorus all night. I got used to the sound after living in this apartment for a while. Then one day, a few years ago, hurricane Ida hit. The frogs vanished. Iâd gotten accustomed to their singing so I couldnât sleep for a while without playing white noise. The absence of the frogs was eerie. Every once in a while I will see a single baby frog hop by in my yard, but I never see or hear adult frogs anymore. So what happened? Well, the hurricane disrupted the ecosystem. And because of that disruption, something that eats frogs moved in.
Do I know specifically what animal is eating the frogs? No. Thereâs a lot of things that eat frogs because frogs are a prey animal very low on the food chain. The same goes for ghosts.
Unlike the frogs who sing all night, many urban carnivores are silent. Same goes for the kind of spirit that can eat other spirits, or a spiritual practitioner who is powerful enough to banish or block spirits from an entire town. Something or someone that high on the spiritual food chain is going to be pretty elusive.
At the end of the day, itâs none of my business what eats frogs or ghosts. Generally, Iâd advise not to go poking around to find out whatâs causing a lack of ghosts since a human is just a ghost piloting a meat suit.
It's been a while since this has been asked, but I'll add to it, @runecestershire
Ghosts, like most of the Dead or dead-adjacent entities have very specific weaknesses: iron, and running water, and in some cases: Ash wood, Yew wood, and Fire.
But they also have predators. You see the Soul is a source of power. And your soul is made of all that you are: memories, Knowledge, experiences, and your own energy, your own magic. Even with the life force gone upon death, that's a lot of power. And with power comes temptation.
Power can be gained from souls in a multitude of ways, and one of the most common or perhaps better put, easiest ways, is eating them. Absorbing all that they are, gaining their power and knowledge. It's a recorded thing: in the Pyramid Text where the gods Shezmu and Khonsu devour the souls of God's, and teach the Pharoah to do so as well. And Anubis, as Accounter of Hearts, and the Dog Who Devoured Millions gains knowledge by eating hearts. Zeus swallowed Metis and gained her power. And old sorcerers used to do, similar to how the Mayans did: Human Sacrifice.
But....to absorb a soul is to sentence it to Oblivion. It's a terrible and unnatural act, which....is something few living mortals are cruel enough to do, which means that if the spirits weren't banished, or sleeping, then they were consumed by something....not human, or something that once was but is no longer.

Beautiful, black-eyed Nyx, cloaked in darkness, older than old, daughter of misty Chaos, mother of great and mighty spirits, I call to you. Broad-winged Nyx, you clasp the hand of bright Hemera, each eve and morn, you greet her with love and sorrow for only in those moments may you embrace your child. Goddess, awesome one, in your realm are we all unblemished, in your realm do loversâ promises ring true, in your realm are all things possible, if only until daybreak. Nyx, I honor you.
Small prayerÂ
âNyx, mother of the night, mother of sleep, mother of death: Might your darkness embrace me Might your energy caress me Might you be mine and Might I be yours Blessed be.â
In generalÂ
O ancient Goddess, born of Chaos and steeped in shadow, I honor you now and always. With eyes which have watched the beginnings of all that is, see us now embracing your sleep and mystery. With power that strikes fear into the hearts of the most revered of Gods,
I remember your strength when I am searching for my own. In the starless night where light shines not i will give my thanks to your Greatness, And surrender to the dark.

This post is payment to my friend @briislame
May Nyx cover you with the calmness of night.
I use resources, I do not own the info, and most deep dives have UPG (that I use in my work.) And I only take some information from sources. I am 14, this is my hobby, I am learning but I spent many hours and days on this, and I am always open to criticism. I have been doing worship for 5 years. Please know you can use the info, I do not sue, but I will take action if this work is used without permission and not put as a resource if used in any work. without permisson and not put as a resource if used in any work, for the public.
this websiteâs easy watch. *dangles a bunch of greek gods like keys*
i know what iâm doing dw
Keep in mind I only know like. Two Greek gods by name. Homer is one of them, and he was good friends with Odysseus I think?
Wait fuck Homer isnât a god he wrote the fucking thing. Fuck
POST CANCELLED NO ONE LOOK
desperately google searching for âgreek gods to pray to when people notice your online idiocyâ
You're failing.
You donât think I know that, God of Death? Can I pray to you so I can DIE ALREADY
Pluto is Roman, not Greek
?????
Short version is that Pluto is a later name for the god of death, which is often associated with the Roman era/Roman mythology. Hades is the earlier name.
I set up my own house made of sticks and it has promptly fallen on me
HEâS NOT EVEN REAL?????*
I made this post thinking I knew what kind of fire I was playing with. Hephaestus, God of Fire, looking upon me from his fuck off tower or whatever said âOh you think you know? Check this shitâ and promptly set my post ablaze for everyone to observe
Hephaestus doesn't have a tower, he lived in a volcano
FINE THEN. BIG FUCK OFF VOLCANO. WHATEVER
wrong.
Achievement Unlocked:
Lightning Bait
You're basically doing the post equivalent of standing out in a field during a storm with a ten-foot copper pole, you better hope Zeus is busy hiding from Hera.
FUCK'S SAKE NOT AGAIN
I need you to name every greek God you know and what they are for plz
For science
OKAY FINE HERE'S WHAT I'VE FOUND
HERMES: DA FUNNY ONE
ZEUS: DA LIGHTNING (NOTE: THOUGHT HE WAS NORDIC, FATHER OF THOR)
POSEIDON: DA SEA ONE
HEPHAESTUS: DA FIRE/FORGING/STEEL ONE
APHRODITE: DA HOT ONE
KRATOS: GOD OF WAR
HADES: DA HELL ONE. ROGUE LIKE
APOLLO: DA DODGEBALL/PROPHECY ONE
ares is the god of war, not kratos
WHY THE FUCK DOES THE GAME CALL HIM GOD OF WAR THEN
I can't believe this post is less than 24 hours old, it feels like something out of classic tumblr lore
Your still wrong. Thanatos is the God of Death. And Kratos the Son of Styx and Pallas, brother of Nike the goddess of victory, Zelos the god of rivalry, and Bia the goddess of force, is the god of strength.
Reblog if you stand against order, civilization, and goodness itself
goes hard ngl
Consider:
The Gods we can celebrate on Sabbats đ
As a dodecatheist Hellenist, it's important for me to follow the practices of the ancient Greeks. However, paganism offers us the freedom of syncretism.
So, while the Wheel of the Year is first and foremost Celtic and Wiccan, it's close to my heart because it celebrates the power of nature.
So here's a list of the different Sabbats and the Greek gods associated with them, which we can celebrate.
Samhain : Hecate, Demeter, Persephone, Psyche, Hades, Hermes, Dionysus.
Yule : Aphrodite, Gaia, Demeter, Alcyone, Tyche, Apollo, Helios, Dionysus.
Imbolc : Aphrodite, Gaia, Demeter, Artemis, Hestia, Persephone, Athena, Eros, Pan.
Ostara : Aphrodite, Gaia, Demeter, Persephone, Pan, Apollo.
Beltane : Artemis, Hera, Aphrodite, Gaia, Apollo.
Litha : Hestia, Tyche, Nike, Demeter, Athena, Apollo, Hephaestus, Zeus.
Lughnasadh : Aphrodite & Adonis (aphrodisia), Athena (panathenaia), Demeter, Tyche, Hera, Hestia, Hephaestus, Apollo, Zeus.
Mabon : Demeter, Demeter & Kora (Eleusis), Tyche, Gaia, Dionysus, the death of Adonis, Hermes.
In my works, and other places, people have been asking me my opinion on Achilles attacking Troilus. I would just preface Iâm not an expert on the Trojan War. I was sick the week we did the Iliad in high school and they made me perform as Odysseus when we read the Odyssey and i had no clue what was happening, but I am in the process of reading it now.
I think if you are studying these events from the perspective of the god Apollo, then Achilles kind of loses his Brad Pitt appeal that the movie Troy (which I have never seen) gives him. So if Achilles is your guy, stop reading. Iâm thought dumping.

1.
Great Hades, master of the dark afterworld, honored host of our beloved dead, husband of fair-haired Persephone, holder of the riches of the deep earth, eldest son of full-hearted Rhea and Cronus of the shining sickle, I praise you. Hades, kind one, unyielding one, gracious granter of respite to the suffering, of welcome to those who have passed from our world, I thank you for your gift of shelter and hospitality.
2.
Noble Hades, lord of the afterworld, upon your head the shining helm that veils the one it crowns in darkness, within your grasp the fearful staff with which you split the world asunder. Hades, I praise and honor you, I thank you for your blessings. Hades, holder of all the wealth within the world, yours are all the priceless treasures buried in the earthâs deep bones, the silver and the gold, the copper and the iron, the many-colored gems. I praise and honor you, I thank you for your blessings. Within your realm, O Hades, are treasures too of life and abundance. The precious seeds of fruit and grain, the soft black soil that clings to root and leaf, without these gifts would mankind fail to flourish. I praise and honor you, I thank you for your blessings. Kindly host of the dead, receiver of all who pass from the earth into your deep, abyssal realm, granter of rest for the weary, sweet reunion for those too long parted by your well-wrought gates. I praise and honor you, I thank you for your blessings. Fair-minded Hades, even-handed one who holds in hand the lot of all whose earthly lives have ended. The greatest of kings, the lowest of beggars, all receive reward or sanction by your will. I praise and honor you, I thank you for your blessings.
3.
Great Hades, master of the darkened deep, master of the realm beneath our feet who hears the echoes of our steps, who takes the echoes of our lives. Hades, you know the need for an end to life, you know the worth of a well-deserved rest, you know the thanks of men and women weary from long lives of worry and toil, you know the joy of sweet reunion as friends long parted join together once again within your storied land. The dim and misty underworld is yours, O Hades; yours are the Fields of Asphodel, yours the endless pits of Tartarus in which are cast the wicked and the vile. Yours too are the Fortunate Isles, the land of fair Elysium where dwell the righteous and the good. Hades, the receiver of burnt offerings, receiver of the blood of beasts, well-honored god: in the end, all come to you. Hades, I praise you.
4.
Great-hearted Hades, lord of the afterworld, noble husband of gracious Persephone, daughter of the earth who shares your golden throne; advocate of the dead whose wrath falls on those who deny them due burial, or whose dishonor endures beyond the grave. Relentless Hades, agent of vengeance, friend of the Furies, long is your arm, long your memory. Lord of riches, lord of wealth, yours is the abundance of the depths, the cold, unyielding treasure of metal and stone; yours is the black dirt turned by the plow each spring, the sun-warmed soil that hides the seed. Hades, dark-haired son of Kronos, ruler of the world beyond us, inevitable host of men and women and all, I thank you for your care of those who have passed; I praise you, I honor you, I revere your name.
Due to him being a Chthonic deity here are tips for worshipâ˘Â You can do water in the ground, I'd personally light incense in his honor, over dirt, and let the ashes fall into the water in his honor. You can throw offerings into water into a pit in the dirt for him, in front of statues offerings were left at his feet. if you have no backyard, or any place to dispose of dirt, I'd get a bag of dirt and place offerings in it then throw it out (make him aware of it, with respect.), Offerings are often buried, poured down the drain, or into the trash (This is done to âcompleteâ the offering.), please NEVER eat after him or anything associated with him other than Kore (Persephone's overworld name, ONLY her overworld aspect),
I know he was offered blood, but please don't unless you're a devotee of Mimmum of 5 years!! that is offering your source of life and it has to be sterile and everything and is VERY VERY sacred, you're offering your life to him, so please make sure to do research and have someone help you if you do decide to.

Beautiful, black-eyed Nyx, cloaked in darkness, older than old, daughter of misty Chaos, mother of great and mighty spirits, I call to you. Ever-present one, you live in the shadows; we know you in the dusk, in the comfort of the night.
