“Everything sounds worse once you’ve spoken it aloud,” Contessina said, her tone soothing. “What can I do to make it better?”

“Hmm, no. That brothel in Amsterdam might have been one of the worst. The madam ended up reading me fairy tales until you found me.” she laughed, before tossing a gummy bear from her pocket at contessa. “Wipe that smug smirk off your face.”
With a flick of her wand, the gummy bear went flying in another direction and she rolled her eyes, laughing at the memory of Amsterdam. “God, I want to forget all about that place. My shoe stuck to the floor and I still don’t know why. As for my smirk,” she grinned a bit. “That’s permanent.”

Contessina was the reason Alana had found the strength to tell her father off when she did. She was the reason that Alana had been able to make the final choice to leave behind her father and his primitive ways. Contessina was her idol, even if she wasn’t quite willing to say as much out-loud, she knew her admiration was obvious. “Things have been amazing really.” She sipped her own tea as well. “Living on my own is great, though a bit too quiet sometimes. You’ve got to come see the green house sometime… It’s beautiful.” She actually properly smiled fondly. “How about you? I feel like we haven’t caught up in… ages.”
With a smile, Contessina nodded at the younger girl in approval. She was pleased that her life was going well. So rarely did she invest time in others that seeing her time be used on the right person filled her with great joy. “Oh I know, the house is so quiet these days without...” She trailed off, forgetting her husband’s name. “You know.” Contessina didn’t care if Alana knew how crass she was. She had nothing to hide from the girl. “Which reminds me! Your Christmas present is finally done! It’ll be waiting for you at your place when you’re back!” She wouldn’t spoil it, but it was an emerald-encrusted vanity mirror enchanted to provide her with compliments when asked. She had been gifted a similar one with diamonds by her first husband. “But I would absolutely love to stop by. There’s nothing more peaceful than a perfect green house.” A warm smile melted on her face. “I actually have the most wonderful news, now that I’m at a point to share it! I’m expecting! A beautiful baby of my own, Alana, can you believe it?!”

“Oh Darling, certainly you don’t want me to answer that with honesty,” she said, covering her lips as she giggled. “And as for the House Elves... well if they got rights, who would shine my shoes. I haven’t got a husband to do that for me anymore!”

“I’m shocked,” she said, feigning an appalled expression. “I imagined you’d have much more in you than that. But then again... perhaps my expectations were too high,” said Contessina with a giggle.

“Currently? You,” Contessina quipped. “A moment ago, equal rights for House Elves.”

“Well, this definitely wasn’t where I thought I’d end up.”
“Well it’s not the worst place I’ve found you,” Contessina started, a smirk on her face. “So at least there’s that.”
Contessina glanced across her crystal tea table, smiling at the younger girl. Her little protégé. Her very own masterpiece. She had such high hopes for the young woman, seeing something like herself in the other girl’s features. The dark skin, the hunger for more, the confidence that exuded from her pores. She was everything Contessina had been at that age, and so she had taken it upon herself to guide her. At least as best she could. “So, Alana,” she said, sipping her tea - herbal, for the baby - “Tell me, how have things been going with you?”

“I’m the Head of Statistical Analysis for the NQL,” they say, a bit of pride in their voice. “Not that– not that glamorous, but keeps the League running. Though most people– most people seem to just use my work so they can bet on the games, but I guess if it’s helping someone…”
“Are you really?,” she asked, impressed by their title. “Don’t downplay how amazing that success is by saying it’s not that glamorous. You’re crucial to the entire system,” insisted Contessina. “And I think that’s very impressive and important. Besides, I prefer the... luck of a gamble. That takes all the fun out of it!”

Still, not many people are bold enough to put an entire pepper in their mouth. I like them, personally, but they do kinda’ give you fire breath.
“Most people aren’t me,” countered Contessina, raising a smug eyebrow. “Anything else you’d like to dare me to get a taste of?” Her tone was teasing as she looked around them. “Anything to cool down these flames in my throat?”
