me: i’m going to do things that benefit my physical and mental health like excercising, eating healthy and getting enough sleep
me:
It's the internet's millennial mom back here again with an extremely unpopular opinion that I need you all to internalize:
There are no food rules, ESPECIALLY when you're just feeding yourself.
The internet (and specifically TikTok, Pinterest, etc) has become obsessed with beautifully plated meals that follow certain conventions. It's all bullshit.
Crack your pasta in half before you put in the pot. Put BBQ sauce on your salad. Do whatever the hell you need to do to get nutrients into your body. The only rule is you need to eat.
In health, fitness, and self-care, aesthetics and trends are your enemies.
Identify your personal, individual goals, then choose the food, the exercise, the activewear, or the products that will help you get where you want to be. They probably will not be social media-worthy. Good. Prioritize yourself over the imaginary observer.
Yes, your smoothie, salad, or sweatpants can be fun, colorful, or pleasant, but this should be for your own enjoyment and motivation. (And it's just not as important as substance. Exercise and nutrition will do more for your long-term mental wellness than having pretty things.)
For women, fitness is often twisted into meeting an external standard. Bullshit! What is the point of self care if you're not doing it for yourself? No one else lives in your body.
“Healthy recipes,” “light recipes, “no guilt recipes,” alright, next show me the recipes that will flavor blast my brains out to the next dimension.
so much of taking care of yourself as an adult is just learning to eat at home and going on walks
Diet companies won’t tell you this but starving yourself is a lot worse for your health than overeating
do you ever see a picture of someone with a body like yours and you’re momentarily comforted like they look pretty good…i probably look good too
Fun fact: exercise and movement doesn’t have to be intentional “exercise” for it to count and be beneficial to you. You don’t need to count your minutes, your pace, your distance, your laps, whatever. You can just go out and… do… the activities you enjoy, without any goal other than to enjoy it, and your body will still benefit from it.
I think there should be nerdy gyms and I’m not even joking about that.
Gyms are always marketed around appearance and personal improvement and ~wellness~: lose wait, get hot, eat less! Blah blah blah. They’re soulless and tap into a form of motivation that only works for so long (and is more than a little psychologically damaging for many people)
What if instead, a gym was a place of play, with exercise focused on enjoyment, adventure, and entertainment. It could even be like a D&D campaign:
You’re not running on a treadmill to get hot or whatever - you’re running down a beaten woodsy path to get word to the king that invaders have landed on your shoreline.
The rowing machine isn’t a monotonous repetitive exercise to get muscles. It’s a serious endeavor where you row with your companions to steer your Greek trireme or Viking warship into battle.
You’re not lifting weights - those are packs you must carry in your adventure across remote, hostile countryside
This isn’t an exercise routine. It’s today’s adventure campaign, with several different activities required - scaling a mountain, fleeing a dragon, etc
…and so on.
Because exercise is healthy, but that doesn’t mean it has to be a boring adult obligation. Why force yourself to exercise the same way you force yourself to file your taxes, when you could instead engage in an hour or so of play?
This is a silly post, but I honestly just think serious adults with serious jobs should still have some time on the playground a few days a week.

carbs are my best friends actually. i love rice and pasta and potato and bread and i don’t think “evil food” exists
