Do you ever think about how Grian never physically hurt Scar on purpose? Not in the petty way Scar would with powdered snow or cacti, no, he'd just say stuff like "oh he'll live" when taking big chunks of damage because he'd never allow the two of them to die on his watch. But that didn't matter. Not when he'd hurt him emotionally. How was he supposed to know he'd care when he can't tell if he takes anything seriously? He can't even tell how he feels about them being soulmates, tied together again. Even when Grian found out Scar was his soulmate, and made it clear he didn't want it to be him, he still followed him around. Still looked after him. Maybe it wasn't just in worry of their own lives, but as natural instinct. He could've just renounced the bond and lived without him. But when he made his base he made it with him and Scar in mind, and he knew in his heart he'd have to tell him. But then he does, and Scar asks "Do we have to base together?"
I mean. Grian probably didn't even think about the fact that he wouldn't want to. "It would be nice to look out for you" (Like before). It would be nice to live together.
But Scar wants his petting zoo, and he isn't too interested in survival or whatever Grian wants him to do. Grian takes it out on his jellie pandas who he's convinced are useless. It's not like Pizza in desert. Not like he cared for Pizza in the first place but he did eventually. He just has to warm up to them, Scar's convinced. He calls it a couple's retreat and maybe a part of him hopes it'll help Grian warm up to them, and maybe eveb rekindle their own relationship in the process. He still cares, deep inside. But Grian's no longer obligated to do what Scar wants. Maybe that's what Scar realizes. Maybe everything in the desert was out of obligation. Even as soulmates, Grian was never his. And he sees that through BigB. Which is fine. He'll bake them cookies. Grian can have BigB. It's not like Scar's a stranger to being alone anyways.
