Like many readers there are certain tropes and genres that I love to bits.
Villain turned good because of the love of their life
Good person turns bad due to circumstances and proceeds to set the world on fire
Both characters despise eachother but due to certain situations have to spend time together and ultimately fall in love
- do I even need to say it?
But at this point I've read far too many books to not immediately see the pattern take place and as amazing and comforting it is to read it, after a while it just gets boring. This is where good world and character building comes in.
And honestly I am so happy that I read the crave series and didn't dismiss it after the first book. Because even though Plot A definitely revolves around a love triangle (which at this point is something I’ve come to just see as a sign of weak writing most of the time), Plot B (the world building and the challenges that they face along the way) is so engaging and relevant within itself that it also manages to elevate the thrill of Plot A.
And I have to say this... [SPOILERS AHEAD]...
If it wasn’t already evident enough I’m a huge sucker for the second love interest in any story.
Many books fail to transition between the love interests seamlessly and that takes away from the experience, but Tracy Woolf just ignited my dwindling love for this trope so hard, I’m not sure how I’m going to enjoy future books without it.
She made this amazing silent, dark and moody vampire and then also gave us his elder brother in the next book? Who has more powers and is a sassy fashion icon - how dare you make me fall in love with yet another fictional character.
I was in a major f*cking panic that Grace wouldn't pick Hudson.
Tracy Woolf did such a phenomenal job with this series. I was in a state of actual confusion and terror that Grace was gonna break her bond with Hudson and regret it later on - or that he'd die (again) somehow.
I read online that some people didn’t like the inclusion of Hudson since Jaxon was already such a well adjusted character that fit the narrative and I agree. Jaxon is amazing but I still appreciate the addition of Hudson to the story since it tied up any loose threads in my head concerning where the story was headed and the character hierarchy. Also, I absolutely adore the idea of Flint and Jaxon. I really hope that comes through.
I'm so so excited to read what happens next.
Omg why is the fourth book coming out next year??
Anyway this was my rant about Crave. I have so much more I wanna say but I'll hold on until next time.
