Protector of Sorts (Levi Ackerman x Reader)
The Survey Corps, all soldiers and all squads fighting the titans are doing their best to keep on fighting for humanitys future. They keep protecting the civilians of the inner walls.
But who is that mysterious person, protecting the Wings of Freedom? Noticing someone not belonging to the military, pulling all kinds of pranks and stunts to support the survey corps, Levi is set on revealing that person.
And when he finds out, more questions seem to appear instead of being answered.
Hello there! So this is the first story I am publishing (along with my FT Mystogan one) so please let me know if you have any feedback :) This will be a series although I’m not sure yet how many chapters there will be.
'tch', clicking my tongue I made my horse go faster by the second. Seeing as a horde of titans was right at our toes. Some abnormals were even able to make it to our left and right side, running disgracefully between trees. And all in all we were in a shitty situation.
It was a rather small mission in comparision to something as fucking annoying as that time we sealed the hole in wall rose. For the mission this time, only my squad and the one of Shitty-Glasses were needed. Apparently.
Wait, what kind of insolent idiot thought that two squads were enough to send beyond the walls? Whatever, gonna kill the bastard with that suggestion later. Surprisingly no one has died yet. In a cart behind us, the cadets Springer and Blouse were lying injured, though nothing life threatening, as those brats were lucky that I saved their sorry asses.
The goal of this mission was to capture Titans. Precisely one normal and one abnormal Titan, just for the experiments of that mad woman.
Usually I'd rather stab myself before helping her with this crazy shit, but orders from Erwin were orders from Erwin. So the plan consisted of us leading two Titans into the forest and holding off any number above that. Shitty-Glasses and her squad have set up the traps and will be hiding in the trees by now.
But there were a hell lot of those filthy beasts wandering around, of course all following us instantly. And in addition to that I had those brats pulling my leg. Though for cadets they didn't do that bad of a job, but they were still brats. I'll admit that cadet Ackerman was of help at fighting away the Titans that were approaching too much for comfort. I guess I didn't complain about having someone with brains like Arlert, too. And Jaeger was just the shitty brat he always is. Going on and on with the crap of killing the titans now, not using his brain at all, wanting to shift into Titan form and the list of shit coming out of his mouth is endless. He's not half bad at fighting but he still needs more of, like everything? Self-control, brains, logical thinking, experience and to start off: Patience.
Well, the other brats all needed more experience. To gain that experience, you need to survive long enough though. And like that my thoughts drifted to our current situation again. One look around told me, that it wasn't the best, with one Titan to our right, but another one just about ten metres behind the first Titan. Both 10 metre-class. To our left were two titans of similar height approaching. And behind us right at our toes were three- no, two 12 metre-titans. But wait, last time I checked, I saw three ugly faces behind me. It's unlikely for a Titan to go another way, when the only prey was right before their eyes. Glaring over my shoulder at the cadets, I raised my voice.
,,Oi, Brats! Before, there were three titans behind us. None of you took down the third, right?" Hearing that, the cadets glanced over their shoulders in awe as well. "No Captain, no one did", Blouse answered, holding her arm, as it was slightly broken.
"Something's fishy..", I commented.
In this short moment, everyone had their concentration way more on what wasn't there, than on what was actually right on our tails.
The sound of movement cutting through the air caught our attention, but it seemed futile, since the titan was already crashing down his hand on the soldiers. One of the titans to sides had come up to the troop way too close for comfort. Now, his hands crashed down from above the cart the two injured cardets lied in, in hope of grabbing some flesh. Luckily Arlert, who was riding the horse with the cart attached, managed to evade it.
Wich doesn't mean that they were saved. The impact when the fist collided with the ground, sent lots of chunks and rocks flying. One wheel of the wooden vehicle got hit and broke away quickly. The cart got out of control and the blonde boy on the horse could only do his best to come to a stop alive. But then again, coming to a stop acutally meant death as well.
I mentally cursed how this little mission seems much worse than other expeditions. Many thoughts crossed my mind. On the battlefield it was not a rare necessity to leave injured comrades behind when there's no chance to escape together. I was trying to think of a resolution but these damn brats had other things in mind, it seems. As soon as the cart fell behind, the cadets former of 104th squad did the same and came to a halt.
I concealed my surprise instantly when I turned my horse around as well. Those brats would be cleaning the shitty toilets and stalls until their fingers were bleeding. "So what great plan do you shitheads have now? I hope not to wait to get fucking eaten.", I glared at them. Captain, I have to turn into a titan!", Jaeger screamed at me, horrified by the six titans that were coming closer from every side.
Before I could say anything, his step-sister raised her hand. "No, I should be able to take them out, or at least create an opening", she shouted over the noise from trampling steps.
"You brats are not to do anything! Remember our objective, we need to get one normal and one abnormal shithead to this mad woman.", though I said this, I was thinking we need to take some action as well. I made up my mind and raised my voice.
,,We're going to-", screaming cut me off.
Everyone looked behind them, to see that one of the 12-meter titans had grabbed the cadet Springer and lifted him up. Everyone unsheathed their swords and Kirstein was already up in the air to rescue his comrade, but just as he was only few meters away from him, another hand swung after him. One of the 10-meter class titans from our sides was trying to grab Kirstein, but he managed to defend himself just in time. With another titan between them, it was hard for the cadet to come to the aid of his comrade. Horror begun to show on the faces of Spinger and the other cadets. The horror of losing someone.
I have steeled myself more for this kind of situations, but it was still an unbearable feeling. To see how quickly the lives of good soldiers come to an end and to surpress the thoughts of the mourning and crying friends and family who will miss the soldier. When I first joined, I always wished for some kind of wonder in those situations, but I'm long finished with waiting for wonders.
When the titan held up the cadet to his mouth and his friends and comrades were trying desperately to save him in time, nobody could look away.
And in that instant, blood splashed around. Like crazy. The young soldiers momentarily stopped breathing, their eyes open wide. But they didn't even have the time to turn their faces away in agony. Everyone was still looking at the scene and then, they witnessed the wonder they had all secretly wished for. There was so much blood, it was even hard to see clearly. But none of this blood actually belonged to their friend. The titan that had captured Connie Springer, fell to his knees and then flat on his stomach. His neck was slashed accurately and very deeply. Not only that, but a trail of cuts went from the back of his legs, up to the hip and then his upper body up to where it had held his victim.
After the dust from the impact had faded away, nobody knew what was going on, but they were looking for their comrade anyways. And that's when I saw it. Standing firmly on top of the titan, a dark green cloak swayed in the wind behind her back. Swords already sheathed and both hands supporting the cadet she was carrying on her shoulder.
The cadets stared in awe, as the mysterious savior jumped off of the steaming body and landed in front of them. It was only a short moment where they had the time to look at her, but it felt like an eternity. Though she still had a hood over her head, I could see it was a girl and she wasn't very tall [AN: Who's sitting in the glass house.. ^-^]. I couldn't see her face very well, because her hood kept it in the dark. Only some strands of [h/c] hair were visible, but she had probably tied her hair up. She was wearing the 3D maneuver gear, but that and the colour of her cape were the only similarities to the Survey Corps' uniform. She was wearing tight fitting black trousers and a beige shirt with string tassels at the collar, as well as dark brown combat shoes. I saw that she had additional to the straps, two little pouches and a few other details I couldn't see clearly on her waist.
But well, we didn't really have the time to gawk at that person, if our lives were dear to us. There were still at least five titans left, four to kill, if we consider that one is for shitty four-eyes.
"Pull yourselves together, brats! We are not in the slightest finished, we need to move our asses soon.", I yelled and the cadets got out of their trance, "And now you. You are not a soldier, state your name and business outside the walls." She might have saved a soldier, but I couldn't afford to get friendly around strangers now, not that I'd get friendly with anyone anyways.
She let out a sigh and put down Connie Springer, he was unconscious. After that she hold up her hand slightly, like she was telling me to wait. That person has not even spoken a word and she's already getting on my nerves. No one saw it coming but she suddenly shot her hooks up to a tree about 8 meters away, her body following soon afterwards. Thinking that she was trying to escape I was about to chase her, but stopped when I saw her going for the nearest titan, the one who had tried to grab Kirstein earlier. In flight she grabbed her hand grips and attached new blades, when she came up to the titan she sped up and hopped onto his shoulder, not giving him a chance. My eyes slightly narrowed when I saw her crossing her blades like an X before stabbing them like that in the flesh of his neck. Once inside, she pulled the blades out of the X-form and slashed the neck deeply in process. She jumped off of the titans shoulder and when she landed, she pulled off her hood.
The cadets that gathered around springer looked at her in awe. I guess I admitted that she didn't look half bad, her face had something pure to it, although she looked mostly elegant and mature (not in age, but in features). Her [c/h] hair was tied up in some braids, what made her look a bit like a fair lady.
Though I scrached that whole sentence the next moment.
After pulling her hood off, she walked a few steps in my direction, while inspecting her bloodied blades. "Oh it's an honour," she said, the sarcasm clearly audible. "I guess the name is [F/N] [L/N]. The business..", she swung her blades around, cutting the air sharp and shaking of the filthy blood. And her last swing went into my direction. I felt drops of blood on my shoes and instantly grabbed my second blade as well.
"...would be to save your asses.", now she looked me straight in the eye. I felt an enormous provoking atmosphere around her, but that was gone as quick as it came. She started to talk swiftly, her voice lacking emotion.
"Cadet Springers unconsciousness is nothing serious, the grip of the titan probably just blocked his airway too long. He's alive", she looked around and saw the titans, two to our right, one on the left and two from behind approaching. Every one of them was now, only about 5 to 7 metres away from us and everyone prepared for the fight.
"Corporal Levi Ackerman, Sir.", she adressed me awfully respectful but in her voice was nothing of the sort audible. I just gave her a wary look. "May I suggest that you take the single titan on the left to the leader of the 4th squad-leader, Hanji Zoe. I shall take over here.", she presented her suggestion. I raised a brow at her. How would she know all this?
"You actually do have eyes, or do you not?", I said flatly and she blinked at me. "I couldn't care less about you brat, but we have two injured soldiers and the cart is damaged. And I don't trust you in the least."
Now after blinking in surprise, she looked extremely annoyed. She actually grabbed inside her collar and took something off before tossing it to me. "You shouldn't be wasting your time doubting me. With the consent of the 13th commander of the Survey Corps, Erwin Smith, I shall take over this situation for now.", she screamed the last sentence on top of her lungs, so all the cadets heard her loud and clearly. And I actually couldn't believe what I was holding in my hands. Attached to a leather band was a golden ring. This ring belonged to the first commander of the Wings of Freedom, the king at that time gave it to him, that's what I heard. The first commander then gave it to the second commander and this became a tradition, so now the ring is the posession of Erwin, he told me about this in the first place. Do I have to trust this outrageous woman now?
The first titan begun to swing his hands at the cadets on the front and [L/N] begun screaming orders at the top of her lungs.
"The titans are standing right in front of us! Ackerman and Jaeger, take them down! As a human, Jaeger!", the two said soldiers gasped at her commanding voice, but nodded in approval and then, even saluted! Tch. To this woman.
They got to their tasks instantly.
"Arlert, get over here and distract the single titan, he will be the objective. And Kirstein is to get Springer in the cart and protect him and cadet Blouse at all costs!", two other salutations and they started to move. They're all going to clean horse shit until they can't smell anything else.
I looked at the girl, daring her to order me around.
,,So, Coporal Ackermann, Sir. Would you do me the honour of a fight, side by side? I haven't done this in a long time and it's thrilling me.", now her expression showed nothing of the sarcasm, povocations or that commanding tone. It felt truly respective this time, but also like a michievous child that's about to eat her birthday cake. Truly strange girl. To be honest, letting everything on my very own mission and my very own squad, go after the orders of an unknown, strange girl, didn't settle well with me at all. Neverthless did I nod my head slightly, shooting my hooks to the other side of the battlefield where two titans remained for us. All the while I was clutching Erwins ring, the proof of her words tightly, before sliding it in my pocket.
Just what the hell was happening here.
