I’ll keep this short. Net neutrality is at risk. If you don’t know what’s going on TotalBiscuit does a good job explaining it here. If you know what’s going on here’s some stuff to click:

The Different Functions of a Domain
Believe it or not, there are several things you can actually do with a domain besides hosting your website. It might be relevant to your needs so I thought I’d quickly tell you a domain’s other abilities
Mirror
You can set your new domain name to mirror the look of another website that you have hosted with your hosting company. Lets say you own xyzdomain.com and you spent a lot of time building stuff on that site and you just don’t want to go through the hassle of having the hosting transferred to a new domain. You can just purchase the new domain and have it mirror that site.
Park
You can also park your domain. The best way I can describe this is to say imagine you want a domain but it’s a hot one and you think someone else might steal it. You want the domain but not for a while yet. You are not ready to build it but you know you will want it. You can purchase it and just park it. It will have a coming soon page or a message saying that the domain is owned. It will be yours until you are ready to use it.
Cloak
Cloaking your domain is similar to mirror in it but this time instead of just having one thing from one site show up you can have the other site in a frame so it would be like website one has it’s things but in a frame somewhere, is a copy of the other site.
Redirect
Redirect works in that when a person visits the site with the redirect it automatically sends them to another site that you determined. This is good for persons who have heavy domains but have moved to a new domain. They can send their visitors to their new location. Its good for people who have changed their business or site names as well

What is a Domain Name Server (DNS)
Think of a Domain name server as like a neighborhood for domains. Domains live on Domain Name Servers. They provide the domain a unique IP address (think of it like an internet zipcode/ postal code) which makes it easier for computers, browsers and servers to find, access and communicate with the domain. Every domain that is active lives on a domain name server owned by web hosting company.
If you own a domain and want to transfer it to a different web hosting company, you need to know the domain name server address of your new hosting company or your domain will no longer point to the directory of folders that host your website.
To learn how to connect domain hosting and web hosting, head over to How to Host a Domain name.
http://www.create-blog-website.com/2017/07/03/domain-name-server/
How to Host a Domain Name
Host a Domain Name in just few simple steps. Hosting a domain refers to placing it on a server. Most times, domains are hosted automatically upon registration. You would only need to know how to do this if your domain has been registered with a company that is different than your web hosting company.
To host a domain, it needs to be placed on a Domain Name Server. (DNS) These are the homes for domains specifically. When registering your domain, there will be a section asking you one of two options
Host Domain using [our] nameservers
Host Domain using [other] host’s name servers
Domain Name Servers
Your domain MUST be hosted on the same servers as your hosting or it will not work. Domain name server addresses look something like this
ns1.hostingcompanyname.com
ns2.hostingcompanyname.com
ns3.hostingcompanyname.com
If you are purchasing your domain with your web hosting company and they do not offer automatic DNS hosting then you can do this yourself. Navigate to the Domain section of your control panel. Click on your purchased domain. You will see a link somewhere in that area that asks for DNS information. Simply copy the DNS information of your hosting company in here. It really is unlikely that this won’t already be filled in.
Hosting a Domain with a Different Hosting Company
If you are hosting your domain elsewhere from your web hosting then log into the Web hosting control panel. Navigate to their domain section and find the DNS link. Copy their DNS server names. There should be at least three.
Head over back to your domain hosting control panel and edit it. Click on the link that will bring you to the DNS page.
The DNS servers of your domain company should be in the three fields. Remove them and add in the DNS names for your hosting company.
Save and give it 15 minutes to an hour to propagate.
When that time has passed, your domain should now be connected to your hosting.
I highly recommend hosting your domain with your web hosting company as it just saves a lot of time and trouble.

How to Get A Free Domain Name
There are only a few ways to go about getting a free domain but most of them require you to jump through hoops, pay for something else to receive the free domain or are just not worth the hassle. The companies that register domains are trying to be able to pay their bills so they won’t give it away for free easily.
Free Subdomain
A lot of free hosting sites offer this option. While technically it is not a Top Level Domain [www.something.com] it still acts sort of like one. It would look something like [www.yournamechoice.theirname.com]. A lot of sites give you this for free and you have unlimited access to it.
Free Domain with Purchase of Webhosting
Most web hosting company will throw in a free top level domain registration with the purchase of a one year or more hosting service. The hosting is usually in the ball park of $100 to $150.
Totally free Domain with Restrictions and Requirements
You can register a domain completely for free with a unique extension like .co.nr however it does come with several caveats like you must link back to them and you cannot have an email list. If you are just creating a personal site with no intention of building it then this would work for you. FreeDomain.co.nr
You can also use the website Dot.tk which offers a similar service with several different short extensions for up to one year for free.
Almost Free Domain
You can also purchase a domain for really cheap through domain deals or by settling for extensions like .xyz or .site. These extensions come to around $1-$4 dollars compared to $9-$15. You can find these kinds of deals from any of these three companies

How to Register a Domain Name
Pre-Register Domain Name
Register a domain name. It is very simple. You must first know what name you would like. It is best to have five to ten options of possible names and variations of extensions [.com, .net, etc] for your name in case your first pick is not available.
The Domain Company
Next you need to pick the company that will register the domain name for you. There are dozens if not hundreds. Here is a list of three companies that I have used in the past to register domains for myself. Keep in mind that to register a domain you need to pay anywhere between $2 and $15.
The Process
After you have picked the company that you would like to register your domain with, simply navigate over to their domain registration section. It is usually on the front page. If not then it will either have its own name on the navigation [Domains] or be under the [Hosting] tab in navigation
Next type in the domain name that you want and click search.
If successful you will get a message which says so. If unsuccessful you will get a message which says so and suggestions on alternatives you can use.
Click on the [Buy now for price] next to the one that you like most and head over to checkout
You will then be directed to register an account or log in if you already have one. This is standard for all domain registration sites.
Register Domain Name
After Account creation, navigate to your shopping cart where your domain name is waiting and proceed to checkout
Fill in your name and address. This is also standard.
You might be given the option to pick nameservers [Learn more about nameservers in the FAQ Series section]. If you intend to use the same company for your web hosting then click use their name servers. If you intend to use another company then pick use another host’s nameservers.
Pick how long you want the domain to be registered for. 1 year, 2 years or 3 years. This will either be on that page or the next page
You will then be asked to put in your credit card information and pay.
If successful you will receive a confirmation message telling you that the domain will be active in anywhere between 15 minutes and 1 hour.

What is a Subdomain
Definition of a Subdomain
A subdomain is a unique name given to a specific folder within a domain. Imagine the domain name as the main folder, the sub domain would be any folder created within that main folder. An example would be www.create-blog-website.com this is the main folder. I want to create a subdomain called community for this website so I would create it in a sub-folder called community
Subdomain Behind the Top Level Domain
The subdomain would then look like www.create-blog-website.com/community/. Each [/] represents a folder level, so the [/] after.com tells me that this is the first folder, this is why it is called a Top Level domain. It is the most highest level on a domain. The [/] after community tells me that this is a folder inside the .com folder. We could then create another folder inside the community folder. www.create-blog-website.com/community/activities/. This tells me that the activities folder is inside the communities folder which is inside the .com folder. To create such a folder you would need to use your FTP credentials.
Inside your Root Folder you will see something like www.sitename.com. Click on that link then click on [Create New Directory] and name it community. To create the activities folder, you would then click on the community folder. When you entered that folder, you would again create a New Directory called activities. Learn more about FTP in the How to make a website using HTML topic.
If you are installing a community software, you will not have to do any of that luckily. The software will do it all for you. You will just need to either make the community folder or tell it to make the community folder.
Examples of sites that use this
Youtube
Subdomain in front of the Domain name
The subdomain can also be represented with the name being in the front of the domain name. www.community.create-blog-website.com. Having the subdomain in front makes the subdomain act like it was a top level domain. Before when we had the create-blog-website.com/communities/ we could only make folders in the /communities/ folder. Now we are not limited to that. We can create several sub folders. www.community.create-blog-website.com/forum, www.community.create-blog-website.com/about, www.community.create-blog-website.com/contact. As many as we want and still make subfolders inside them all. A lot of free hosting sites use this method.
To create this kind of subdomain, you would need to do so within your domain hosting control panel. It works similar to hosting a domain name. [Read up on that topic in the FAQ Series Section]

The most important thing is not subscribers but engagement. Which would you rather? A million subscribers with only 1% engagement or 200,000 with more than 50%. No one likes to feel like they are talking to a wall, especially if it is something they are passionate about.

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. Your SEO determines how high or low in the rankings on a relevant search. Bad SEO means that you are on page two or lower. Good SEO means that you are on the first page. Great SEO means that you are on the top of the first page. Two things determine your SEO. Keyword density and backlink value. Keywords represent the search term or terms a person uses to find your site. Backlinks represent how many quality sights are linking to your site. This helps the search engines know that your site is relevant and none spammy. Learn more about this at Create Blog Website linked below.

What is a Domain Name
Definition a domain name
You are here because you typed the question “What is a domain name.” A domain name is a unique web address. The internet has literally millions of websites. They are all assigned a unique name so that each site can be identified. This is called a domain. A domain is a piece of property or territory owned by someone or some things so your domain name is the name of the property that you own on the internet. The name of the property is up to the property owner however sometimes the name that a person wants might already be taken. This is where being creative comes in. It’s not just cut and dry, a domain name has several parts to it.
Anatomy of a domain name
HyperText Transfer Protocol
A full domain name looks something like this [http://www.create-blog-website.com/]. [http://][www.][create-blog-website][.com]. As you see there are four sections to the domain name. All of them are editable to some extent and each has its own purpose.
All websites start with [http://]. This stands for HyperText Transfer Protocol. This tells web servers and browsers how to interact with your domain name. You may have seen some sites with https://. This stands for HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure. You would normally see this on websites where you would need to put in personal or valuable information. This makes it so that hackers cannot steal your information.
[www] stands for World Wide Web. This is also part of the HyperText Transfer Protocol, however, it has its own function as well. The [www] part tells your computer that you are looking for something on the internet instead of on your computer. Your computer’s folder system and a domain’s paging system work exactly the same way. This is why the [www] was needed. However in this more advanced age, the [www] is not as necessary anymore. Computers and browsers can now tell the difference. Not only that but before you needed to type in the full address to get to your destination, Now all you need to add is the unique name and the extension to get where you want to. Example instead of [http://www.create-blog-website.com], you can just type [create-blog-website.com]
Domain name
When most people refer to a domain name they are referring to this part the unique identifying name that is between the Hypertext Transfer Protocol and the Top Level Domain. [http://www.______________.com]. This is where your full creativity comes in. You get to pick any name that you fancy. The problem is that because there are literally millions of websites on the internet, you might need to be a little creative if the name you want is more on the common side. This is why it is recommended that you pick several options and variations of the site name you want when going for your domain name. A domain name can only consist of letters, numbers, dashes (-) and underscores (_). This is because the other symbols are used in internet coding language.
Top Level Domain (TLD) or Extension
This is the part that comes after your domain name. [.com][.net][.org][.ca][.blog]. Think of this as a surname. You might be Mary and another woman is also Mary but the two of you can be identified as individuals based on your surnames. One site might be called sitename.com and another might be called sitename.net. While the domain name is the same, because the TLD is different, they point to different sites.
Each TLD has its own meaning so determine the right one for you. The most common one is [.com]. [.net] is also a popular option. [.org] is typically used by school and non profit organizations but it is not enforced. Countries also have their own TLD like in Canada [.ca] or the United Kingdom [.uk] these are usually meant to indicate where the site is or who its intended visitors are. However there is no restriction on who can visit a site with a country specific TLD.
