I think the thing that helps me most within this whole mess, (as someone who, when I first watched Inuyasha, initially swore they would hate Sesshomaru only to then fall in love with him) is to realize that Sesshomaru means a lot to me, and no studio can change that. My perception of him is what I choose and that canβt be taken from me by anyone. Iβm a former psych student, and I wholly believe that the connections we make as people with fiction are an integral part of our personal development and the overall human psyche and experience.
Fiction does affect reality. Thatβs the whole point. Itβs why humans are storytellers. Itβs why weβve used stories since the beginning of our own. Weβre meant to get attached to characters and their stories, because they are us. It doesnβt matter if itβs high brow academia or a mid-90βs anime. If it matters to you, it matters. Itβs not childish. Itβs incredibly human.
So, as someone who loves Sesshomaru, who resonates with his story, even in the wake of this whole mess, Iβve decided to stick to that. Because you know what? Sunrise, as a company, doesnβt care about Sesshomaru. They donβt. Certain employees might, but that company does not care. They donβt all resonate with him on the level that you, or I, or any other fan might. They care about their business. They care about making money.
And while I canβt fathom why they think any choices theyβve made with (sequel) are going to turn them a profit, theyβve still made those choices with the mindset of making money. Thereβs no hate agenda theyβve put out on Sesshomaru. They just want money. And thatβs all theyβve ever wanted. I donβt care about RTβs input, or how much she might have contributed. That doesnβt police how I respond to her work, regardless of how much or how little sheβs brought to the table. Only I get to do that.
Im gonna be honest; even before Yashahime came out, I never really cared all that much for sesshomaru. I didnt HATE him or anything, and I could certainly appreciate his redemption arc for what it was, but I honestly never fully understood all the hype surrounding him.
he's far from being my favorite character, but I must admit that this whole mess surrounding Yashahime and all the hate Sesshomaru is now getting honestly makes me actually feel so bad for his character. Maybe its an unpopular opinion, but should we really be hating on a character for doing something that, even for him/her, would be so out of character and something they wouldnt actually do themselves unless they were made too by an outside corporation that hasn't even involved much (if any) of the original creator's imput? I mean, even though I have a soft spot for SessKagu and SessKik, even if Sesshomaru WAS with one of them romantically, I'd find very it hard to believe that Sesshomaru would have kids, at least so soon or (apparently) before or around the same time InuYasha and Kagome had their own children. It just doesnt seem to be in his character, and yet Sunrise gave him not one, but TWO kids, both of which are apparently a few months older than Moroha?
Dont get me wrong, i have nothing against the idea of Sesshomaru eventually having children of his own flesh and blood, nor do I have anything against the twins, but I just don't see Sesshomaru, or even Kagura, being the type to settle down in that way for a least quite a few years. Not to mention Sesshomaru would probably LOATH the fact that both he and Inuyasha were expecting kids at the same time like Yashahime made it out to be.
Its why I'm even questioning if Yashahime is even taking place in the real world of the InuYasha-verse or if we find out at the end that the whole thing was a weird fever dream/what-if scenario/alternate universe. There's just too many inconsistencies going on within this show, and not just with Sesshomaru, but with alot of other stuff too.
Omg I'm sorry if I just went on a tangent there but basically what I'm trying to ask is if we should be hating on Sesshomaru for making decisions (that are WAY out of character) that were only done to benefit the 'plot' of Yashahime for convenience, without any flow or buildup that led to Sesshomaru having kids?
