Those days when you show up for a lecture, but the teacher doesnātā¦ š“š“ Library it is! š

Ā There are so many things in my head at the moment that itās making me forget some of the important things so the only thing I could do was make a list. Lists are good⦠X
microeconomics flashcards i made for the demand & supply chapter!
when school eats up your life D: itās okay though! iām back. :^)
this post can be summarized into links, reasons, and advice for 1) not procrastinating and 2) organization, with a stress relief section as a bonus. if this doesnāt interest you, press j on your keyboard now.
apps and sites
for when you need to focus / not procrastinate! everything here is free, or at least has some sort of free version. this is mostly ios / mac software, because thatās what i own. sorry! itās possible these are also available for other devices ā you can check, anyway.
if not, this post has some android apps to help with studying
this post has a bunch of nice windows apps, not necessarily study-related
focusnow [ios]: a classic! you set a certain amount of time for when you canāt go on your phone, and during that time, a little tree will grow. if you switch to something else in that time, the tree dies.
try chrome extensions like stayfocusd
to-do lists are really motivating because you can check things off and see how much youāve accomplished! however, try not to be daunted by a long list of tasks youāve got, and donāt feel bad if you canāt finish everything.
if you want something paper, try a bullet journal
to-do list software: [mac + ios] wunderlist // todoist [ios] timeful // glass planner // clear
i almost never finish everything i have on the dayās to-do list, and thatās okay. learn to prioritize, and make sure you have a margin ā better to overestimate the amount of time it takes to do something than underestimate!
to help with prioritizing, try a system like this
lately iāve just been using evernoteās checklist feature because evernote is good for everything
i also like fountainpen, a writing program with a backdrop feature, as a way to free myself of distractions because it blocks out my cluttered desktop, which is less stressful. would 100% download for the backdrop feature alone. (that, or you can use it as an actual writing program.)
speaking of freeing yourself of distractions, download isolator, which does a similar thing, except it makes the background completely black! (you can change the opacity if you want so that itās more translucent)
lots of apps for focusing!!
more focusing apps
while studying
if youāre just getting started, then it helps to get into a learning, scholarly sort of mood first, so start with small tasks ā organizing the supplies youāll need for your session, writing down what you need to accomplish
are you sleepy? (me too!)
do you normally have problems with sleep? here are some tipsĀ (not for insomniacs, but thereās a link for insomnia at the bottom)
consistency is super important. itās better to study 20 minutes every day for a week than 2-3 hours straight on monday or friday and none for the rest of those days
speaking of that, the pomodoro technique is nice for this!! i dont use it personally but it can be really helpful, esp. when youāre so tired you canāt track the time or decide how to do this by yourself

studying is fun!! if you are not convinced then know itās at least incredibly rewarding. remember all the benefits you are getting from this, because there are many ā better grades, better organizational skills, & (hopefully) a better outlook on life.
getting over a fear of studying
my own personal reason: to learn and experience more and to share this knowledge with the people around me
killing feelings of inadequacy
really important words of encouragement

if u canāt find the motivation no matter what, try this
establish a routine
productive (and relaxing!) afterschool routine
developing self-discipline
routines also involve sleep. sleep is important. tips on waking up early here
try 100 days of productivity!! itāll feel rewarding and youāll develop a sense of consistency
time management tips
sticking to your plans
i recommend starting small at first ā establish your routine bit by bit, and donāt try everything at once. see what you like first; itās different for everyone
more stuff about bullet journaling
tips on waking up
i recommend waking up early, although i find it more important to wake up early on weekends than weekdays. my main reason for this is that i have more time to see the sun (my city is extremely polluted and it sets at around 6 PM), but overall, the light will make you feel like youāve been awake longer and more productive. even if you havenāt done anything, youāll feel like youāve just seen ā and done ā more that day.

a post about planning
donāt beat yourself up if you canāt stick to your routine!! at the same time, donāt let not sticking to it become a habit. acknowledge you didnāt do it this time, be okay with that, and move on. forget about it, at least for now ā in the future, you can look back and think about how you made a mistake (or a lot of mistakes), but you recovered from them.
stress relief
ok im just going to warn you beforehand that these are mostly cutesy things for your study breaks
self care things
remember itās okay if you canāt study for long periods of time, and you can only do 20 minutes to your friendās 50 before you need to stop and take a break.
turn your stress into motivation!! i know that the fear of failing keeps me awake and working quite often, just donāt let this overtake you. stop & breathe.
also you should find incentives to study / work that arenāt justĀ āwhat if i failā ā preferably positive ones [re: reasons to study]

HOW TO TAKE NOTES IN CLASS.
Try to concentrate on the main aspects of a topic and make sure that you do not write down too much. Focus on the quintessences and figure out the connection of theory and pratice. It will help you to remember the facts more easily.Ā
I used this method of note taking during the last semester and it helped me a lot when I had to summarize my notes for the exams. Try it out and tell me about your experiences! :)

also a side note regarding learning languages which are not so widely spoken such as icelandic and maltese: there are very few resources on the internet to learn it by yourself unfortunately and (this is especially for maltese) sometimes the information isnt even 100% accurate or professionally written, such as poor presentation / false info, incorrect syntax or not using the correct letters (such as the omission of the letters Ä,Ä”,ħ,ż and substituted instead for c,g,h and z which is totally incorrect) so unless classes are available or youād still like to learn by yourself or on your own time, iād strongly recommend purchasing a book from amazon or something professionally-written and more in depth to further grasp the language better tbh
September 15, 2015 ||
Iām quite overwhelmed with school. I feel like thereās not enough time in the day to study.
I have to constantly remind myself to breathe and take it one step at a time.
I got new highlighters and colored pens to coordinate my notes better. Iām in the process of typing up my sociology outlines so Iāll be better prepared when itās time to study for the midterm.Ā
4th of September // stationery haul part ii
hearing the rain on my window is the best thing about my study space
Iām really happy with this! I find its so much easier to revise when it looks nicer and organised!
Just getting to studying for my exam tomorrow. Iāve been so busy with other things and my time management has seriously been so poor. I apologize for the lack of study posts (again). With my chemistry class starting up soon, youāll get tons.
These are my notes from my iPad and the app called Notability. Love how my writing looks when printed!
