weekends usually tend to mean several things: times she can sleep in for two consecutive mornings, as much freedom as hogwarts entails for the occasion, and the company of me, myself, and i makes for more than enough homebodies to occupy the little space she has practically branded as her territory.
fabian’s sudden grand (and remarkably steadied) entrance into the kitchenette brings rise to more bafflement than alarm. the extent of their connection only goes so far: her stunt as a resident chaser for the badgers was terribly short-lived; any relationships formed solely within that quidditch bubble were almost expected to fall through in similar fashion.
it’s safe to say then that there’s more than what meets the eye when it comes to the boy, and today’s no exception. in addition to his taste-testing responsibilities, he’s going to lend a helping hand in the food prep.
that should’ve been the first red flag.
but she’s all too busy dicing leafy greens and stalks and whatever assortment of vegetables that sit in the basket to dispute his decision. on the stove sits a steel pot, near full to the brim with the water simmering. phoebe turns only to vaguely gesture towards the pot, obviously very in the zone and of the belief that he’s capable of carrying out this one simple task. “can you add some salt into that?”
though she was no longer on the quidditch team, they had been friends in the time she was and that wasn’t going to change just because she didn’t play anymore. he had become her company when she was cooking for the most part, and usually that meant he was a taste tester. which he really wasn’t going to complain about because he loved food and was not going to turn down the chance to get some free food.
but he was surprised when she seemed to be letting him do more than just the tasting and was willing to let him help with the preparation. something she was probably going to come to regret by the end of this as he was no cook. he’d never cooked anything in his life and honestly didn’t know the difference between a lot of different kitchen equipment. all he knew about the subject was what he had learned from watching her or his own parents cook when he was home. not like he had ever taken any lessons.
however, fabian was not going to be deterred by his lack of knowledge, eagerly accepting the challenge with a nod of his head. “alright,” he announced with a smile, moving towards the pot and peering in at the bubbling water. though he paused, thinking things over for a moment as he tried to find where the salt actually was. but he couldn’t find it, nose wrinkling a little as he turned his head back towards where phoebe was working.
“where is the salt?” he wondered, eyes still looking on all the surfaces for where it might be, “and how much is some?”
