        A soft frown of confusion flicked over his features as he studied Phen closely, his usually greeting followed by what appeared as nerves and anxiety from the firebird, practically feeling the emotions flood from her and it had his hand lifting to brush her cheek gently, a silent reassurance that whatever she had to say, or do, she could do so freely with him. It always had been and always would be important to him that she felt safe and free in his company. That he could provide her comfort to be open with her feelings without fear of judgement.          “What’s wrong? Talk to me?” he whispered softly, confusion only spiking when his words weren’t followed by a verbal answer, but instead the appearance of the little box within her fingers. Carefully, he lifted it from her hand, a breathless laugh escaping him as he flicked the lid open to see the ring nestled within, eyebrows arched high as he studied it closely, barely registering the words that accompanied the gift, it taking perhaps too long for them to fully sink in and for his gaze to return to her, laughing freely now. It was a relief. His mind had been reeling with the possibilities of what she had to get off her chest, and the last thing he’d expected was the proposal she’d offered. 

        Realising that he hadn’t given her an answer, he shook his head ridiculously, finally finding his voice. “Of course! Are you kidding me?! Of course it’s a yes!” He laughed, a hand hooking around the back of her neck and tugging her in for an affectionate kiss, forehead pressing tightly to hers as he chuckled excitedly. Could he remember a happier moment in his life? Meeting her would be a close second, though he couldn’t think of anything that came any nearer. Drawing back just enough to take the ring from the box, he slipped it onto his finger with an inane grin and taking a moment to admire it’s beauty before tugging her in for another gentle kiss.          “I love you. Did you think I’d say anything else?”
