(light non-specific cr4 spoilers) I have so many thoughts on Wick and Tyranny and Caleb and Jester parallels. Obviously, as silly chaotic tiefling girl Tyranny has been compared to Jester from the start of the campaign, and with Wick and Tyranny's dynamic being similar to Caleb and Jesters, along with Caleb and Wick both being anxious twinks indoctrinated into big bad evil institutions you would think ah yes good parallels.

But, what if I told you the parallel is Wick to Jester and Tyranny to Caleb. Wick and Jester both come from an extremely sheltered and wealthy upbringings and have very little real world experience because of that. Additionally, they hold these core idealistic beliefs that their actions center around, but this makes them come of as childish and naive to others. Because of this naivety, others assume little of their intelligence and don't trust them with information. There's also this undercurrent of secrets being kept from them to "keep them pure". With this, many characters keep very pivotal things from them both, involving their lineage and family, and additionally the legitimacy of their faith pertaining to their belief in "false gods". In fact, their foils Tyranny/Caleb continue this pattern of keeping secrets from them, although both are well intentioned and clearly conflicted in doing so. Speaking of Caleb and Tyranny, lets talk about them. Both of their characters center around this deep seeded belief that they are irredeemable. (It was actually Tyranny's "You can't save me" that got me thinking about these parallels, although they're dynamic had reminded me of Caleb and Jester for a bit). So Caleb and Tyranny both view themselves as irredeemable, there are sins in their past they feel as if they cannot atone for and they think their beings are fundamentally corrupted. But, unlike the people that conditioned them towards evil, they have a strong underlying moral compass that doesn't always reflect well outwardly, and an unnurtured but ardent ability for empathy and kindness. At first they're just acting to survive, until they're hit with affection and care for those around them that breaks them out of this pattern of survival by means of apathy. They are both more observant and understanding than given credit for and start to take on this supportive role in the others life. Wick/Jester have a belief not only in their idealistic values but see a good in Tyranny/Caleb that they themself cannot see, but despite Wick/Jester trying to "better" Tyranny/Caleb the dynamic is more commonly the reverse as Caleb/Tyranny use their understanding to empathize and support Wick/Jester. This is why I think the crux of the dynamic is so familiar, they both share so much common ground and despite being near opposites in a lot of ways, the core of their beings match. They bond so much through shared trauma and an empathy and understanding that has been absent in the majority of their relationships throughout their lives.

Sometimes I get... exhausted, I guess, by ships and shippers. They're fine, they're fun, you do you (except if you're going to be a dick to other Critters or the cast), but all the attention the ships get really draws focus from the story, and even more, from the platonic relationships. There was SO MUCH in this session. So much happened, including such deep declarations of platonic love, and it's frustrating to know that despite that the tag will be a deluge of shipping drama for the next week. So many golden moments get lost in shipping, or become consumed by ships, and the difference between how romantic and platonic relationships are treated in this fandom is wild. Friends are as important as romantic relationships, if not more. Anyway I'm tired and I just want to talk about this family and how much they love each other, is that really too much to ask.
