What is this? And can I touch it?
it’s molten glass, you can touch it but only once…
Horde Prime thoughts
So after the She-ra finale, I wanted to go back to some of the thoughts I had on Horde Prime.
One of the comparisons I made was to the Sci-Fi series Stargate SG-1, where I made the, now confirmed guess, that he used the clone bodies to perpetuate his life, jumping from one body to another when one was worn out, like the Asgard in SG-1. What didn’t happen in She-ra however, was there didn’t seem to be a deterioration of the clones with each successive cloning.
Another difference is the clones actually have personalities and even the one’s totally under his control have a sense of being.
Funnily enough this make’s him like the main villains of SG-1, the Goa’uld, who are a parasitic snake like alien species that take control of host bodies by burrowing into the back of the neck to attack to the brain stem, allow them to control the host body. This also grants them access to the knowledge and memories of host, which how they gained most of their technology, which highly advanced, they aren’t just parasites to physical body, but to idea’s they steal technology, and it’s also implied they also stole the identity of the gods of less advanced civilization, making them believe they were their gods
And here’s the big point of comparison, it’s how the Goa’uld and Horde prime both take on the persona of a god. The Goa’uld literally convince less advanced civilizations they are gods, some even believe their own hype, and while Horde Prime act more like a cult leader than a person impersonating a god, the vibe is the same however.
Both show the dangers of cults and extreme beliefs.
Noelle Stevenson alluded to this somewhere, in a tweet I think. That Horde Prime imagery was based off those modern mega churches, which take religion, something that’s supposed be enriching, and turn it into a source of personal power.
Now I consider myself a religious person, so what I picked up on right away is how clearly Horde Prime is meant to represent a cult leader more than anything else as opposed to what you might consider a more normal religion.
And I appreciate that fact the show had Horde Prime take this route as opposed to the more typical use of Nazi styled leader or Communist leader which have been more common villain types for a number of years. Both types of villains come down to the same thing at the core, a charismatic person get’s in power and warps the world of those they have power over them so they are the center of the universe there by centralizing their power.
You see this in real life, like in North Korea where the leader at the time has their image on everything.
Now it doesn’t matter what the person is using as the pretext for their position, religion, politics, science or military strength, they use they same tactic’s at the end of the day to isolate the population from all outside influences and make themselves to be the center of the universe to the people.
Avatar:The Last Airbender showed a bit of this, in more Nazi-esque way with Ozai, where the students at school recite their pledge of allegiance to a painting of Ozai. In this case patriotism and nationalism were the bases for his power.
Additionally, the Fire Lord’s Throne is wreathed in flame, obscuring him and making him look even more imposing. And we know that this type of Throne was made after the start of the war, because we saw in a flashback when Roku destroyed the old throne room it looked like a more standard throne room.
We see this sort of thing with Horde Prime, he does things to make himself appear more impressive and powerful to intimidate people, His modified appearance is a big one.
In SG-1, again the Goa’uld do the same thing. They can make their eye’s glow and give their host and unnaturally deep voice that booms and echos.
But it all comes to the same thing in the end. They all are egomaniacs who think, for their own various reasons, deserve the worship and devotion of those they see as beneath them.
Which make for exceptional villains. Some people like nuanced villains, I do as well, but sometimes you just want a bad guy you can unabashedly root for the hero’s to beat down.
What makes the three villains I’ve mentioned her so satisfying to watch get beaten, is they have all taken things that are meant to enrich a person’s life and make it better, and bastardized and can’t help but want them to go down.
hordak anon again, im so glad im not the only 1 who feels that way! its like they glossed over? what he did, if thats the right term. and im sure i cant be the only 1 whos uncomfy w the entr*pdak ship...
The ship would be good if done right, but since they just glossed over the fact that Hordak was COLONIZING THE PLANET, it just feels like a half ass excuse to be like “oh look over here hes good he made a friend ignore everything he did :)”
It makes me sad too cuz their relationship had potential
How does Hordak’s imperialism “ruin” the ship? Their relationship is healthy, and they care for each other deeply.
What’s more, Hordak’s crimes did not stop Entrapta from becoming his eager lab partner in the slightest. As such, throw a better argument against the ship than that.
Okay. See. Here.
It’s not “oh, look over here: he’s good; he made a friend; ignore everything he did :).”
It’s “oh, he’s an indoctrinated clone soldier-slave who was thrown away to die because of chronic illness and is mentally and emotionally bound to his terrifying god-figure to the point of placing himself directly in harm’s way because he doesn’t know how to live outside of the cripplingly abusive cult that created him; maybe we should be a little gentle with him.”
Please. For the love of the gods. Try harder.
This.
I'd like to point out that Catra kinda...sorta... killed Glimmer's mom. And almost destroyed space time.
I'm just saying Hordak isnt the only one who's made some mistakes in the past.
Hordak in finale.
I speculated a lot on what would happen to Hordak this season, and feel like I got a good portion of the tone correct, but while i had imagined him going out like the Terminator i was instead treated to him going full Darth Vader, except he lived in the end.
I am very pleased with this. We also got the clip of him an Adora when she was brought to Etheria, which indicates to me at least that even then he still had the ability to feel compassion as he didnt just leave her to die in the feild.
How I feel about the She-Ra characters
“Oh (Character name here) I just want you to be happy.”
Except Horde Prime, he can go to hell.
Reblogging own post but after the finale, I'd say I overwhelming got what I wanted from what I said here.
How Catra talks to Double Trouble about her relationship with Adora.
Catra: I'm not obsessed with Adora .Why do you think everything comes back to Adora?.I'm depressed? Adora beat me at a game when we were kids. I'm angry? Adora got more attention than me when we were kids. I'm stressed at work? I want to kill Glimmer and sleep with Adora.
Double Trouble: Well, you just told me about a dream where Adora was a giant pillow that tried to smother you. Then you were at Adora's funeral, opened the coffin, and it was you inside. And then you killed Glimmer and slept with Adora.
Catra: That dream could be about anything!
Do you think assassins have tried to go after crocodile while he’s like. Having a sponge bath
This was actually and SBS, and Oda said he’s still shower and bath because he isn’t afraid of attackers.
Entrapdak Headcanon.
I like to think that when Entrapta and Hordak start to recognize sensations and feelings ( like sweating, flush skin, accelerated heart rate) when they are around each other, they dont recognize it as liking each other.
Instead they both think they have Malaria
Hordak Antis
Think I've noticed a pattern with them. They don't hate Catra, even though she and Hordak are parallel characters who've made similar choices, and ran the Horde.
From what I've gathered, Hordak's most ardent haters seem to consist of individuals that dislike cis-hetero people.
Also, Catra stans.
This is true, and the sad thing is they don’t even see their own hypocrisy in their own hate.
Just as Love is Love, Hate is Hate.
Hordak and Entrapta as Bob and Linda
Okay, so I saw someone on here mentioning the idea of Entrapta and Hordak’s reltionship being like Bob’s and Linda’s from Bob’s Burgers and now I can’t get it out of my head. Sorry I can’t remember who actually put it up, but now I’m just imagining various quotes from the show in their characters.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Entrapta While stuck behind someone slow in traffic: "Hey Jennifer Slowpez! Get out of the way!"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hordak After a long night working: "I'm just a little tired. Also, I might be a pimp."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Entrapta to Emily and Imp:"Mommy doesn't get drunk. She just has fun."
Why do people think Scorpia is so much older than Catra?
Okay, so this is somthing I’ve sort of been aware of, but had my brother point it out to me and that’s people treating Scorpia is older than Catra, and not just a little, but a fair amount older.
Now I’ve heard somone refer to this as Pedophilia, which is wrong because Catra is around 18, which would make her a legal adult in most cases, and even if she wasn’t by law, that’s not pedophilia anyway, she’d still be in her late teens.
I’ve even heard one person refer to, after it was pointed out it wasn’t pedophilia as “statutory pedophilia”, which I’m pretty sure isn’t even a thing.
But let’s get back to the age difference.
I’ve always assumed or thought they were around the same age, and Scorpia might be a little bit older. But some people think she’s in her 40′s.
First of all, I can’t believe she’s that much older than Catra, second why do people think she’s that much older?
Her hair is white, but that’s clearly just the color her hair has always been, and even if it was age related, 40 isn’t typically the age when hair turns all white any way.
Then their is her size, she’s big and strong, and that does make her look more mature, but still, look at Entrapta, she’s somewhere around 30 and is one of the shortest cast members.
Her hair cut I guess reads as more mature, but still...nothing to indicate genuine age.
All I can guess is people who argue a dramatic age difference, and even Pedophilia (it’s not), is it has nothing to do with the character’s actual age, but they just don’t like the ship.
I personally don’t ship Scorptra, because I ship Scorpia with happiness and Catra is just not in place to be in a relationship of any type until she get’s herself worked out, but making something that isn’t even a real issue into something is...
Look if you don’t like it, that’s fine but don’t make it something it’s not, words have meaning, and throwing them around frivolously is not good.
A cowards way out
So in relation to one of my recents post a user @lesbian-centaur kept arguing, incorrectly, what constitute genocide in relation to She-ra.
Then they moved the goal post to cultural Genocide, which can’t be prove either in relation to the Horde.
The last thing they said was
lesbian-centaur replied to your post: She-Ra fandom...words have meaning
@croc117 there were many signs, the abandoned those buildings less than a century ago. Thing don’t get that destroyed in 100 years, even with neglect. Also you should know to save face, i have no respect for military function or rules so “treason” isn’t an excuse for abuse. She didn’t let shadow weaver escape, she was manipulated you dunce
To be clear the things be addressed were the signs of destruction of a village and is Hordak abuses Catra when he punished her for lying to him.
First I said, that the fact the villages weren’t flattened and totally destroyed, and Scorpia’s kingdom was still intact but in ruins, showed the Horde wasn’t making an effort to destroy the culture. The fact the Scorpia’s kingdom still showed there history on the walls is a strong indicator of this.
Second was that Catra was punished for Shadow Weavers escape. Yes, she was manipulated into aiding, but she still brought contraband to condemned prisoner, and once that prisoner escaped, she didn’t report it. He wasn’t abusing her, he was dolling out punishment for treason.
I don’t care is @lesbian-centaur has not respect for the military, their opinion is irrelevant. Treason doesn’t have to be militarily related, Catra still commited it on a political level by letting Shadow Weaver escape, even by accident, and not reporting it.
But they posted this, called me a dunce then blocked me.
In my experience, people only do this when they known they’ve lost and argument or can’t properly defend their stance.
If you’re going to resort to name calling followed immediately by blocking, I’m certain you known your stance was weak or you weren’t the one capable of defending it.
I’m not a dunce...you coward.
She-Ra fandom...words have meaning
I keeps seeing people int he fandom misuse word, either to push their point or just out of general lack of knowledge.
for example
Genocide- Which is defined as
the deliberate killing of a large group of people, especially those of a particular ethnic group or nation.
Hordak did not commit genocide. Yes he’s a ruthless warlord, and has killed people, but it’s never been stated he ever target any type of ethnic group or group of people with the intent to exterminate them. Not all killing is genocide, and careless use of the word is frankly offensive. Hordak had done plently of of messed up things, you don’t need to add something he didn’t do to his list.
What Horde Prime was about to do, that would of been genocide.
Pedophilia
People like to throw this around when it’s not even relevant. Calling Hordak and Entrapta “pedophilia” or Scorpia and Catra “pedophilia” is, even if one is older than the other, it’s still not correct to use it. Pedophilia refers to an attraction to children who haven’t hit puberty yet.
True we don’t know the age of Catra , but she’d clearly not young enough for Scorpia to be considered a pedophile. And Honestly I don’t think their is much difference in their ages anyways.
People like to throw this word around when their is a age gap in a ship, and they don’t like it, so they throw this word out to try and posion it.
Words have meaning, and while I know some people just make mistakes, people shouldn’t be dishonest to try and trick people into thinking like they do.
can we stop pretending that catra abused hordak
hordak is literally the most evil person on Etheria and all Catra did was tell him one lie. What she did to him doesn’t even register on the radar compared to what he did to her.
She manipulated him maliciously. That was a dick move on her part, regardless of Hordak’s status as a villain.
“Hordak is literally the most evil person on Etheria.”
Lol
What did Hordak even do to her that this person is claiming? Until she rose into the upper ranks he wasn’t even aware she existed and had little to no interaction with. He wasn’t her abuser, Shadow Weaver was.
The only time he ever lashed out against her was when she basically committed treason.
