Whenever they gave us one of those "read through ALL the instructions before you begin!" trick assignments in school where the steps lead you on an increasingly ridiculous goose chase until the final one tells you to just put your name on the paper and turn it in without doing anything else, I was always like, "Okay, but what's the point? Surely the REAL world won't be anything like this." And then I grew up and discovered that not only is the real world often exactly like that, some people won't even read the first line of the instructions even if they make perfect sense. And these people are called "co-workers"
what they DONT tell you about clarinets is that you have to fucking build the damn thing every single time. "what instrument do you play" fucking legos man idk
about build clarinets damn do DONT every fucking fucking have idk instrument is legos man play" single tell that the they thing time. to what "what you you you

Reblog this and tell me what was your biggest crying over a piece of fiction. You can be vague if you don't want to spoil.
Cats crave routine so much that if you don't give them any, they'll invent some for you and then get pissed off if you don't follow the secret rules that they decided for the household
I do think the ability to emoji-react is a net win for human communication. not only does it give you an outlet for 'I see and acknowledge this but don't have a verbal response' but it also adds a pleasing alethiometer element to things
my coworker announces that he's off to the dentist. someone reacts with a tooth emoji. is this a statement of dentist solidarity? a wish for my coworker to return with more (or fewer?) teeth than he set out with? simple word association? who can say
Im glad they made up romance for stories and music but can you imagine how scary it would be to deal with all that for real

The Count of Monte Cristo - Alexandre Dumas & Augeste Maquet
-> I wanted this book to be good... it really... wasn't that good tho? Maybe the abridged version is better idk... we did unabridged. it starts strong and that's it. there is simultaneously too much and too little all at once. book of 5000 subplots the main plot? lost until the final 5%.
-> the beginning, the prison section, that's all good. the "revenge" section(s) though... nonsense. what in the world was the point of the story within a story within a story in Rome. and it was so long.
-> also to me at least the best part of a revenge story is how the person gets power to enact their revenge and this book is like. well he got rich and that means he is basically a superhuman... like ok. how in world did he make the connections with all the people he would need to make connections with when he had no background yet tho?? he doesn't KNOW ANYONE you cant do anything with money if you don't know WHO TO TALK TO. I hated this so much annoyed the hell out of me the entire time. I want to know the how.
-> like wow mans immune to poison thats... cool I guess. oh he knows all these people... and thats how he knows all this stuff... how'd he do that tho? he was in jail for 6 years. wars were fought won and lost all during that time. how did he reestablish himself while maintaining 6 different personas?
-> also mans weak willed... wavers at the end... how dare he. when his actions lead to a child dying but really... its the mother who accidentally kills her child. and also if he is so hung up about killing innocents then isn't the mother also technically an innocent? she had nothing to do with what happened to you why get her involved?
-> he does have a flair for the dramatic tho. loves to be in a costume. loves to wait till the last possible millisecond. poor morrels family my god - only when they are literally finger on the trigger ready to die does the count deign to save them. literally wrote in my notes "gun in mouth the daughter returns (from meeting sinbad aka the count) and they are saved!".
-> then he just leaves everything behind to be with his... slave/daughter/wife?? what a fucking weird relationship that was. the ending was so hollow. unsatisfying.
